An Octogenarian, Alex Ajayi has revealed he was the one that presented the much publicized WAEC certificate to President Muhammadu Buhari and other prominent military rulers in the 1960s.
It should be recalled controversies arose as to whether the incumbent president actually wrote the exam or even was presented with a West African Examination Council Certificate. It was one of the allegations leveled against Buhari during his presidential campaign for the 2015 general elections.
Ajayi who was born on June 28, 1930 said he became the principal of Fiditi Grammar School in Oyo State at the young age of 26 in 1956 and produced the first set of students in 1959.
“ I was the principal of Fiditi Grammar School, Oyo State, at age 26 in 1956 and produced the first set of students in 1959. I ensured that the school was stabilised before I joined the West African Examinations Council.I joined the West African Examination Council as a pioneer staff. I was the first substantive Nigerian Assistant Registrar. I took over the control of the examination from the University of Cambridge. I took examiners to Cambridge for training across 10 years and trained them in Nigeria. I had the opportunity of issuing WAEC certificates to three former Heads of State: Buhari, Abacha and Babangida in the 60s. When I was in WAEC, I was put on the council of the University of Ife (now Obafemi Awolowo University) in 1966 by the national government of Aguiyi Ironsi.”

We don't even need him to bring the certificate again, WAEC should just help us publish it if it is true.

So you vividly remember personally issuing WAEC certificate to the tyrant in Aso Rock? How come he doesn’t remember collecting one from you, and doesn’t even remember whether he has a certificate or not?

Buhari where is your WAEC certificate? If you cant find the original why haven’t you collected a certified true copy from WAEC? Is it another rocket science process? Even as head of state with all the powers?

I think Buhari should simply apply for a certified true copy of the result from Waec and save himself from this unnecessary controversy. What happened to the certificates he obtained from military schools? We know for sure that he attended military school in Nigeria, India, and America. Where are the certificates from those school?

This shouldn't be an issue again. A statement of result was issued to him before the last election by his Katsina high school, so why should we start going over this afresh, making news where there's none?

I doubt his name would have been engraved among the class of 1980 as shown below if he didn't pass all the required exams.

at the time, all you needed as an international fellow to get into the USMC, was a letter from your home government approving your nomination & forwarding your record of service.

greater premium was placed on military experience ( & rightly so) than academic qualifications, at the time.

so his name been there does not excuse him from doing what integrity demands... get a CTC of his result from the appropriate exam body.

let's be real, no employer will employ a person who submits an affidavit saying their academic credentials are being kept by their former employers while not submitting at least a CTC of those credentials...
