Sorry to say, but all 'forum' sites in Nigeria get to share the same features as nairaland. These includes; ui design, concepts, mode of implementation and even word for word. Is it that we're not exposed enough or we are not ready to improve? Contributions pls.

It's simply irritating.

Even Nairaland is not any better. No improvement, no innovation no remodelling, NOTHING!

I have been active on this site close to 11 years and the setting/layout has only been changed once! It is the ridiculousness of this Nairaland others are following that's why they all seem wack.

It is in this regards I am not very happy with Seun. Nairaland needs some UI/UX upgrade! Lead and others will follow.

Sure @braine, I read on wikipedia how Reddit changed it UI (to React js or whatever). But my feel is that, is it laziness on the webmaster's end (ie to write new feature) or selfishness to invest in their craft?. The most annoying is that, they host these sites even with SSL and no ROI in the long run.

Ofcoz the sites will have little or no ROI, coz the same way you see the crap in them is the same way other users will see it, ultimately leading to lower clicks and lower web ranking which = 0 revenue.

Talking about Reddit, you won't believe the upgrade I've seen on that site over the years, quite unbelievable! When I go there then head to NL, sometimes I cringe. Lol!

Or is it that seun ain't getting enough $ to get the required upgrades. With time nairaland might be a thing of the past, not praying so tho.

You're not far from the truth.. I find nairaland so boring these days.. I only come to see if any topic on FP will catch my attention and when none is seen,i press the back button asap...

Smaller sites are always adding new lines of codes everyday, improving their interfere and here, we still have the same old boring shit..

One thing is clear, suen isn't business inclined nor does he has the growth mindset. He loves mediocrity so much.. Good if that makes him happy..

Many, if in his shoe would have made tremendous impacts by now.. What has suen really offered to the world aside this script?

He should crawl out of his introverted life and make some impact that he will be remembered for.. Not facing his system every goddamn day, looking for a Christian threads to attack as an atheist..

I'm a user and i have the right to rant!

If it's not broken, no need to fix it. All those shouting, Nairaland should change design, tell me one single thing that's wrong with the current design.

It's not about the design, it's about being innovative. Smaller web masters contact me everyday to add new features to their websites. Bigger ones do. Facebook add new features every day and we love them. I mean, in 10 years, we have Instagram, whatsapp and so many new features has been integrated into Facebook itself.
But here... It's this same old nairaland.
Nothing is changing. The same old tribalist mods and the same old silent Seun with no improvement or innovation mentality.
Sometimes I wonder why we still have to email someone before we can communicate with them on nairaland in 2018? Gosh! This dude better sell this site to a serious minded person before it losses all its value.

Una don come with una usual rant again
Seun is a very very smart guy, but you guys fail to see it .

1. Less fancy design == faster site loads

2.Nigerians don't have the fast internet like those countries and sites you keep comparing with, you might have fast internet and a fancy expensive phone. But whether you believe it or not, there are still some Nigerians who use Symbian and other 2G phones .

3.Understanding your market is key to shaping a product and he has done that perfectly well, that's why you are even here, if you don't love something you won't care enough to complain about it(just like you are doing now). So you love Nairaland, it was good enough to pull you in, that's why you are here . grin grin

4.Why do you think most sites and apps are building lite versions ?. Because of Africa !!. Nairaland is "lite" already.

5.Whats the point of a fancy design, when most of your users have to spend 30 seconds loading a page, should I remind you how frustrating Nigerian networks are ?.When my internet is misbehaving and I am not sure if my data is exhausted or its just network issue, I load Nairaland, when other sites don't load, it loads

6.As a developer, when I am optimizing the speed of a site I build for clients guess what I use as a template for comparison ?. Nairaland !!!

7.In conclusion, sometimes its not how fancy it looks that matter(Go and see how ugly looking banking softwares are, especially Zenith Bank). When building a product, study your environment, assess your end users and build what works for MOST of them.

Peace

Except that after so many years, your users gets tired of seeing the same random stuffs and move to a more innovative contemporary website. Facebook practically serves the whole world and their load time is not up to 30 seconds. Stop celebrating mediocrity, nairaland needs to improve. Personally, I'm tired of a forum where all you do is comment and follow someone you can't even message. Is that functionality?

The people following you do not even get notifications when you post something. What's the essence of the following? It's a dead end following system.
Moreover, uptil now, we don't get new items or activities notification from nairaland.
If someone quote you or like your comment, you won't know until you access the site.
That's whack!

I am not celebrating mediocrity, I am celebrating effectiveness, given the available resources, hope you know so many factors determine site load speed, and the most important is your device and your internet speed. Not everyone is privileged like you to have a 3G phone
Try loading the main Facebook app in 30 seconds on a 2G network, that's why they built Facebook lite with stripped down features .
However, I agree with you on notifications maybe via email, when you are mentioned or followed or something of the likes.

True but bitter talk @Donald3d, but my question is on Nigerian webmasters not just Nairaland. Talk of wakanda and others. Why the same thing or is it that we (webmasters) can come together and build something. We all (claim) we know the React, Node, Flask ( wink ), Django and major problems can be solved through the internet. Is it that we ain't doing the proper thinking?. My lecturer once said we're a consuming country, and truthfully we are. How about creating a new internet protocol, encryption system, mark up language and the likes. IoT is here and we (webmasters) ain't doing anything to help. Am guilty as charged but when the morale comes, no one to help. BTW how many incubations are in this country?
Re: Why Do Nigerian Webmasters Lack Creativity? by CodeTemplar: 9:27pm On Oct 27, 2018
OP may not realize the impact of a more advanced and sophisticated theme for a site like Nairaland.

Nairaland is a site with impressive traffic figures and extra 5 or 10 KB of page size alone will likely translate to slower load time for pages, extra bandwidth, and huge mobile version pages sizes.

assuming the total page views/loads for a month is 10 million. then an extra 10 KB per pages resulting from theme upgrade will likely lead to around 100GB upload bandwidth per month. That is a lot ( though a guess figure ) .
