Minimum Wage Above N22,500 Will Lead To Inflation, Says Group by ManirBK: 12:15pm On Nov 03, 2018
The Centre for Credible Leadership and Citizens Awareness yesterday appealed to organised labour to accept the N22,500 being offered as minimum wage by state governors in the overall interest of the country, saying shutting down the country will only have negative effect on the already suffering masses.
Director General of the centre, Dr. Nwambu Gabriel, who said he was speaking for a coalition of over 79 civil society organisations, said anything above the figure being offered by the governors will lead to inflation.

He added that the burden of paying salaries is on state governments, saying it is one thing to agree but another thing to be able to pay, based on the prevailing economic situation in Nigeria.

He said it is also the responsibility of Nigerian workers to ensure that the economy of Nigeria does not collapse.

He said: “As a coalition of civil society organisations, therefore, who are mindful of the degree of commitment of the average worker in Nigeria, we hereby call on the organised labour, NLC, TUC, etc, as the true, patriotic citizens of Nigeria they are, to please reconsider the N22,500 as realistic and achievable in order to avert an imminent collapse of the economy and possible retrenchment of the workforce.

“The primary responsibility of any government is beyond salary payment. Consequently, today, the 2nd day of November, 2018, may we also advise that embarking on another national strike action or a boycott of the 2019 general election, which is tantamount to disenfranchising the entire nation’s labour force, is notonly anti-democratic but will also be counterproductive to the Nigerian state.

What is the meaning of this nonsense! It's has now gotten to a point where it's anti-democratic for workers to demand for a pay raise above the meagre salary they collect that can't even feed them for a month let alone Cater for other needs, but patriotic and democratic when our so called leaders loot our present, siphon our future, gallivant around the world buying choice properties. it will never be well with the enemies of NIGERIA. Buhari made a ludicrous attempt to run for second term.

It's finished!

Govt can't bring down prices of goods if they country do not produce enough. And even when they do, prices will always be high unless it's easy to transport them from one location to another.

So you need to produce enough and you need good transportation. Roads transportation are not enough for goods to be low. You need rails way, it's cheaper, faster and saves time.

The point is, govt can't just make decrees or laws to force price down, th market does it. The only thing govt can do it create an environment for local production, discourages importation and most importantly, infrastructure, railways

What inflation are they talking about?

But their hyper-stored up money won't lead to inflation of goods right?
Sorry, this statement is purely biased undecided

How does anyone want labour to b realistic wen political office holders take home a very gud percentage of each year's budget? If d govt wants to b sincere with itself let it slash it's pay and benefits of both d executive and legislature (including security votes and constituency allowances..

Inflation Government themselves has inflated everything

Remember fuel pump price

But why does it take much deliberation if it's of benefit to the poor

Isn't it the reason these people are there in the first place

Hmmm forget the inflation just do the increment we will pass it when we get to the bridge!

Auction Nigeria abeg

It was Robbery on the part of government to increase petrol price from 87 naira to 145 without a correspondent increase in wage and salaries.

They knew price of petrol will cause inflation but they went ahead.

Labour has been benevolent enough.

Alas, the subsidy they said they wanted to end was another scam from Buhari and his gang of 40 thieves

Another APC group.

Buhari's pay and billions he has spent on medical bills has not led to inflation, but N22k is all it would take to drag Nigeria into inflation.

Naira was N185 to $1 when Buhari took.over government. I guess we are not already in inflation in the warped thinking of this APC group.

Well for me, increasing the salary of less than 2% of the population is a class mechanism of exploiting the 98% majority. The money for the salary increment should be used to develop nuclear energy. Then free health care and schools be made mandatory every other thing will fall in place by itself. Because the private sector will grow once electricity is available, many innovations will be in place. For health we all know is wealth. Free education will give every individual an opportunity to realize his or her potential without the elite monopolizing knowledge as it is today. All the private schools with best teachers are kept for the minority children who happen to be the billionaires. It pains me when I see many churches opening private universities for the children of the rich only. Forgetting Jesus was a poor man and all his first disciples were poor people. The money changers his first enemies, are the people the Church love most. What a contradiction.

This is the simple truth.

If we're all reasonable, we would realize that salary increment is not what we need now but for infrastructure to be fixed, sound economy and low commodities prices.

At ₦18,000 more than 25 Governors out of 36 owed workers, cos they couldn't afford it with revenue drop. Why would anyone think when you increase, they would be able to pay?

Yoruba says owó tí kò sí, jedi jẹdi ọ lè gbà. Not even stomach upset can take the money that's non existent
Even at ₦18,000 if dollar exchange to ₦ is back to below ₦200, there's constant electricity, purchasing power automatically goes up.

Prices are high, you increase salaries, the sellers automatically adjusts their products prices immediately to benefit from the more money in circulation.

Only employers of Labour and sound economists would understand
