If we're all reasonable, we would realize that salary increment is not what we need now but for infrastructure to be fixed, sound economy and low commodities prices.

At ₦18,000 more than 25 Governors out of 36 owed workers, cos they couldn't afford it with revenue drop. Why would anyone think when you increase, they would be able to pay?

Just to ask . Even when there is no increment of salary, are you not feeling inflation everywhere?

Governors that can t pay salary shld resign voluntarily.
A lot of our political leaders are incompetent.
You didn't address the ineptitude and incompetence and corrupt-rooted polithievian , you myopically addressed the increment alone.....

Govt can't bring down prices of goods if they country do not produce enough. And even when they do, prices will always be high unless it's easy to transport them from one location to another.

So you need to produce enough and you need good transportation. Roads transportation are not enough for goods to be low. You need rails way, it's cheaper, faster and saves time.

The point is, govt can't just make decrees or laws to force price down, th market does it. The only thing govt can do it create an environment for local production, discourages importation and most importantly, infrastructure, railways
and also, tout are causing increment in commodities, like if u are in Lagos, u will see how much this tout are collecting from trailers that are loading. where do u expect them to have their gain if not increments. even if we are producing in this country, all there touts wunt make things come down.

I scored A2 in Economics, so I will answer you.

Every state in Nigeria can adequately pay 22,500 minimum wage with the right attitude and with governors who will not collect bribes like Ganduje.

Yes, it's possible. However, the minimum wage should be pegged to the state's CoL and not a blanket wage for everyone. Borno state cannot pay the same minimum wage as Lagos cos of the chasm in their development.

To the bold, unfortunately, that attitude does not exist. Which is why I did not write on it. It would work when people hold their representatives accountable and not supporting them like it's done on NL.

the minimum wage being paid will still go back to the economy. the problem is not the minimum wage, the problem is the unspent money held by the political class that will not go into the economy.

Increasing minimum wage will help pump funds into the economy but the problem is that the political class won't spend most of their money here.

Yes, it would but ONLY when there has been a corresponding increment in the value of production. Question is: where and what is that value in Nigeria in recent years to warrant an increase in the minimum wage?

Regarding politicians, well, Nigerians deserve the kind of politicians they get. No hard feelings.

P.S. Minimum wage on its own is bad for the economy as it perpetuates unemployment.

how does salary increment affect infrastructure and all the things u mentioned? Prices of goods and services are dependent on demand and supply, so it is lame to assume that increment of salary equal to Increment of goods and services. Salary has been stagnant but yet prices of goods and services still went up

The economic and political system operated in modern day Nigeria cannot be found in any book, it has no name!

What we should be clamouring for is the crash in price of goods by tackling some of the causative factors and not Minimum wage (yet).

Reduction is price of PMS and other derivatives. Few years ago, there were talks on modular refineries which will OBVIOUSLY put us on a part to self-sufficiency in PMS etc. If we had gotten all the modular refineries ready and operational, and we were able to fall the price of PMS etc. by 25-45%, price must fall, coupled with the fact that we will be saving all the money on subsidy. This money can be cancelled into other endeavors; electricity, road, school and healthcare, and when seriously tackled, we will definitely be singing a new tune, as the purchasing power will have increased at least

We have food items in different regions wasting away, yet we still import those food items from other countries! Government cannot only create laws without ways of effecting it, price will definitely sky rocket, and smugglers will have a field day.

A focused government should create special collection and storage facilities, task the appropriate officials to make a list of all locations where such occurs (or not) and BUY those products from the farmers, then resell at a controlled, fixed price, and export when there is sufficiency and/or store them with advanced methods so as to ensure availability both on season and off season. The farmers will be elated and produce more that way which means we are on a fast track to sufficiency.

In summary:
1. Create and Sustain the much touted modular refinery, which will ensure sufficiency and thereby saving our funds.

2. Plough the saved funds to resuscitate critical areas of the economy

3. Create avenue to buy our Agro produce from our dear farmers, set the price and ensure market availability, farmers will be motivated to produce more hence, sufficiency.

The points above (though few) will massively better the lives of Nigerians. But No, we are all about how to secure various position by hook or crook.

However, the truth remains that IF minimum wage is increased, in few years time, we will find ourselves in this same spot with a harsher economic reality.

We really have a long way to go in this country, and not until we start being logical and less emotional, we will still run around in circles.

Do we have sound economists and a good proportion of the masses are still living in abject poverty? Voodoo economists I believe.

The national treasury and state allocations belong to all Nigerians.

Political office holders are allowed to manage our collective wealth, but mismanagement has been the order of the day.

Therefore, Nigerian workers are asking the politicians not to print new money, but to share more funds from the collective wealth we have given them the opportunity to manage.

If all their so-called projects equalled to $10m, they should simply throw in $6m dollars into the sharing bucket.

NLC should be persistent.

With allegations of politicians favouring a particular religious group or tribe over others, sharing money under the guise of Vote Buying, and looting funds to overseas accounts, an increased minimum wage is the only water that can boil everyone's egg, irrespective of who you are.

#God bless Nigeria.

Every thing is not in hands of federal government. It is between the private sector, the state government. And the federal government. With the federal government there no inssue but, but the more is coming from the hands of the state government and private sector. So leave the federal government out of this because u can't force state and private to accept what they can not be able to pay the have others things they do with money not only salaries.

Categorically, not all state can even Pay salaries when it was 18k. Even the 22500 will still be difficult to pay in some states. The 30k minimum wage should be done base on the state with high cost of living interms of food, housing and other bills

In that case, any governor that can't afford to pay d workers salary is not fit to be in d office (incompetence]. Its just that our govt is not sincere, and the fault is from d Nigerians because we fail to hold them responsible for their misdeeds. Nigeria has more than enough resources to carter for d welfare of her citizens including those not in d work force but greed will not allow them do that. If I were d labour leaders, I will push for d strike and later change d narrative from minimum wage agitation and make them understand that the strike continues until they effect a change on d pay of d political office holders. I think d solution to this issue is for the political office holders to be paid based on minimum wage. As this will make politics less lucrative which will reduce corruption.

If not that Nigeria has foolish and selfish leaders, why would there be inflation if a worker is asking for a pay rise in his monthly service to his employer?...what does workers demand has to do with increament in the prices of food stuff and the rest.

Workers salary was not increase yet there was inflation... and when they now agitate for salary increase, there is still threat of inflation... And even our selfish leaders are even saying there will be inflation if minimum wage is increase.. Please what happened to the price control board we use to have.
The worst is what goes up does not come down in this country... Drivers dey do their own, market women/men dey do their own....which way Nigerians!!!

Value of production will only work if the political system will stern enough to keep all monies in circulation. As it stance now, If we are sincere enough, we have to allow the money saturate the economy because it's a known fact that if it doesn't circulate, it will be withheld by the political class.

we have to make sure that the wealth circulates to near saturation before we start talking about value of production. The only way it can circulate is giving it to the low and middle class earners who will spontaneously spend it not keeping it with the political class.

I think the group don't have interest of Nigeria at heart.
Let government grade political offices like civil service let's see if any of them will go there or let there be total restructuring in the country like the American constitution we adopted.
The politicians will pack all the money in the country to better the lives of their family and they pay workers nothing.
The minimum wage of 22,500 is equal to one bag of mama gold rice, meaning workings should not eat. I don't know how political sycophants reasons most times.
Labour should shot down the economy let's see how they will see money to thief.

If government want to be fair to all let them slash the salaries of all governors, state house members, National Assembly members, executive members and all other outrageous salaries and allowances enjoyed by these people. If there huge pay didn't push the country into inflation all these while, what will make the little increase in labour pay push the economy down?
