Op. Minimum wage. Is d lowest amount to be paid to d lowest level of worker,(basic salaries) it does not make those earning above earn less, it increases there own basic too. So every level of workers get an increase.
Re: I Dont Understand The Minimum Wage Of A Thing! by Nobody:
Exactly. For example, NYSC corpers get 10percent above minimum wage.

So now that minimum wage is 18000 naira,

10 % is 1,800naira

So NYSC allowee has to be 18000+1800= 19,800naira

If minimum wage goes up to 30k, NYSC allowed will be 1.1 * 30k = 33k. Or (5/3)*19800=33k

Now, all workers are simply earning based on minimum wage. For example. The highest civil servant gets 180,000naira which is 1000% of minimum wage.

But in addition to this basic pay, they also get other allowances such as medical allowance, etc which are all a percentage of their basic pay which in itself is a percentage of national minimum wage.

So what we are now saying in summary is that now that minimum wage is 18k, a civil servant whose final take home package is 340k will get (5/3)*340k naira as his/her new take home pay when minimum wage is changed to 30k

so, let's say 30k is about 80% increment, does that mean other workers get 80% increase too? someone prev' earning 50k earning about 88k? is that it?

The basic will increase in that percentage but other allowances might remain d same.

No, allowances will also go up in that same proportion because they are tied to the basic pay

Simply put, allowances are calculated as a percentage of your salary.

Say, your medical allowance is 50% of your basic salary for example. Definitely, there will be a corresponding increase of your medical allowance if your basic salary increases from 50,000 to 80,000.
