Who said it'll be sold to Chinese?, ...I listened to a government's official explanation and I actually loved their intentions, there's no need for the government to compete with the private sector, and it'll be thru IPO where a minimum of 70% must be owned by locals...there's allot of work for the government that private sector can't do yet

This Mumbi is under educated but under exposed! Listening to her she never has hard facts and figures but just lounge type generalities. She ticks all the boxes people like:
-criticise China
-attack African leaders
-feed into global racism accusing Africans wholesale of incompetence and corruption.
She doesn't seem to know those are privatisation programs agreed to long ago which should have been done a decade ago.

BREAKING NEWS
KENYA
On the news this week about Kenya...
The Kenyan government and its South African counterpart have strengthened their bilateral relationship by easing restrictions on travelling by both their citizens. South Africa scraped short-term visa requirements for Kenyans. Kenyan business people and students travelling to South Africa will now be issued with multiple entry visas valid for up to 10 years. The two countries have also agreed to step up joint efforts in combating illegal immigration especially from NIGERIANS grin grin and also protect the integrity of each other’s travel documents. This move also comes as Kenya’s immigration department steps up efforts to streamline immigration services through automation of systems, digitization of records, and establishment of the e-passport system. The governments are also in consultation on the strategies to mitigate transnational crimes, especially human trafficking and smuggling emanating from elsewhere on the continent and beyond.

BREAKING NEWS
KENYA
Investments and employment opportunity knocked in Kenya after the BBC launched its biggest news bureau outside its headquarters in the UK. BBC’s East African bureau is the largest outside the United Kingdom (UK) and will also double up as the African headquarters with 300 out of 600 of BBC Africa’s staff working in Nairobi. The bureau will also be home to the first BBC show to broadcast daily from Africa.Kenya was an attractive destination due to availability of technological advantages than neighboring countries like TANZANIA grin grin grin which does not meet the broadcasters requirements. According to the broadcaster, the Ksh 38.2 billion expansion is being funded by the UK government.

Thumbs UP! They dont like facts but facts are very stubborn. Msost of the nigerians on this thread whom we assume are our age mates, will be dead in the next 25 yrs MAX!. Life is short and brutal in Nigeria. Life expectancy is at 53 yrs.

Not so different for South Africans who will also die 5 yrs earlier than Kenyans. Basically, we will outlast all of them

Very true, these folks are naturally bitter with us though,Seems they adore Kenya much grin

Nairobi is pretty much the prefered HQ for multinationals - Joburg doesn't seem to work - it's not centrally located and is not really at the heart of Africa. As for Lagos - first sort out basics like STABLE ELECTRICITY.

dumb ass, check the value of the currencies and what each can afford..

Imagine collecting a salary of 5000 Kenya money.

Rent house with--2000 Kenya money

Food--1000 Kenya money..

Don't forget about healthcare, transport, bills, education and co..

Kenya is useless

Kenya's currency is four times stronger than Nigeria's currency and the good thing is that our Central bank reserves has been increasing for the past two months due to high cash inflows from interested foreign investors and other remittances from Kenyans living abroad.
This means our currency will continue to appreciate against the US dollars while your useless, shit and one of the weakest currencies in Africa will still dwindle in the near ages to come.
Nigeria is a hell.

Long suspected that we are not taking full advantage of us being at the Equator. We can do more I reckon.South African cities being on the periphery of Africa makes them loose that central appeal! I think investments in infrastructure coupled with our strong human capital have been the magnet to BBC opening its biggest office outside the UK in Kenya!

You are strange. All African countries has the potential, don't count natural resources, its all about leadership. Ethiopia is growing rapidly without minerals.Tanzania too is yet to start pumping natural gas for export. So anyone, including Somalia has the great potential

Tanzania is hopeless. Wait for the gas to be pumped and shipped to China and the West. Kenya's potential lies with its people.

If you get a guy like Zitto Kabwe to be your president. You might attempt to get out of the LDC zone!
A presidency is like institution. Its not about knowing basic economics. For we have all resources needed to develop, what we need is a guy who is uncorruptible like Dr.JPM. Yes zitto knows economics so well, but in other aspects is lacking.JPM is uncorruptible, he is honest,a fixer, straightforward, quicker to punish wrongdoing, and he is a go getter,a choleric. That is what we needed this time.

One of the main reason for privatisation is to let the private sector compete against themselves, the private sector in all those fields are doing much better than the government's companies(in exception of electricity company)...

In Kenya the power/electricity service is divided into three groups, there's KENGEN it's mandate is to generate electric from the source.

There's also KETRACO which mandate's is to plan, design, construct, operate and maintain high voltage electricity transmission grid and regional power interconnectors

And KPLC, which operates the transmission and distribution systems, and sell electricity...The Government has a controlling stake at 50.1% of shareholding with private investors at 49.9%. "Kenya Power&Lighting Company" is listed on the Nairobi Securities Exchange. And it is doing very well,

In less than six years, our household power connectivity has risen from less than 50% to almost 80% with almost zero power outages...

The government intends to sell KENGEN the same way it did to Kplc, of which it's a great idea...
