Aftermath of the postponement of the Lagos Metro Railway which is being funded by the Lagos State Government and the World Bank, the questions on the lips of Nigerians are are we going to abandon the project? Will the construction works stop? What will happen to Nigerians working on the site?

It was earlier reported that the Lagos State Government has announced that its light rail project running between Mile 2 and Marina will now commence passenger operation in 2022.

The mass transit rail project called the Blue Line awarded to China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation had suffered many delays due to paucity of funds and other challenges.

But the state government said that after a comprehensive review of the project, it had approved a roadmap proposed by its consultants to complete the civil infrastructure as well as the operation and maintenance infrastructure needed for the commencement of passenger operation in 2022.

“Following the report, Alstom SA France, who are experienced international railway systems aggregator and rolling stocks manufacturer, with over 100 years of railway experience covering 60 countries, was engaged to review the report of the consultant. Alstom SA agreed with the submission of the consultant that the first phase of the rail project could only become operational in 2022 based on proposed funding pattern,” it stated.

In its bid for investigative reportage, AutoReportNG was able to have access to some ongoing works at the various site, especially the Lagoon Bridge, and we can confirm that work is going on at the Marina axis but at a slow pace. We also got the layout map for the bridge that runs through the Eko Bridge into Marina.

When I heard of the postponement of the Lagos Blue line's completion to 2022 was when I concluded that Ambo has to go.

Instead of simply continuing from where Fashola stopped in a govt of the same party, Ambo decided to do his own meaningless projects like Oshodi-Abulegba BRT and VisionlessScape.

Lagos needs continuity. Not the kind of project abandonments PDP is known for.

Sanwoolu/Hamzat 2019 for real continuity.

And you think the one replacing him would do better, why can you guys for once choose your governor and see the difference, you guys in Lagos mean to say Tinubu knows more than the millions of people living in Lagos that he has to decide who becomes the Governor, Just for once you guys should make a change and see, its worth taking the risk

By its completion date, it'll already be inadequate and far below what's needed to ease transport problems in Lagos. Shocking how long it is taking...

Where are the cable cars and so promised in the past?
Lagos should have finished this and started drawing blueprints for a metro system. If you build up most transport hubs, then introduce 'congestion charges' to traffic hotspots to encourage less use of cars in areas adequately served by rail transport.

Example is India's capital New Delhi metro. Construction started in 2002, first phase completed by 2006. New stations constantly added too.

Kwarruption ridden government. This is the same project that successive Lagos state governments has been using to obtain loan fraudulently at the expense of the taxpayers. They keep playing hanky-panky with the citizenry, causing emotional and physical stress on their daily livelihood. Let's be factual, lagos state with the amount of FDI and tax incomes it generates should boast of world class intermodal transportation system that should ease the flow of human and vehicular traffic. Bad system being strangled by a bourgeois Lord at Bourdillon.

Tinubu chose Fashola and that was a great decision to all Lagosians and APC faithfuls.

Same Tinubu chose Ambode after Fashola had interviewed Ambo and found him not good enough. Everyone had to trust and queue behind Tinubu's decision.

Now party members and many lagosians do not want Ambode again, so Tinubu has respected their decisions.

No leader without followers. No Tinubu without Lagos APC members and Lagosians.

Lagos cannot tolerate any little form of retrogression (dirtiness and incomplete projects). The high standard has been set already.

How is it your business who Lagos chooses as its Governor?

Oh, I guess you're concerned that the next Governor would ban hawking of gala and fan yogo.

Since you love Ambode so much, go and make him the Governor of your backwards state.

With all the billions wasted by the present administration in Lagos on huge projects, this project would have been long done and dusted. Instead, just to spite Fashola, he chose to start his own project which though nice and with aesthetic value, add little to the comfort of the populace.

This Rail project if concluded would greatly alleviate the sufferings of Lagosians and reduce traffic on that axis drastically.

I hope they speed up the funding, and stop the underground embezzlement.
