tech18:Everybody is picking c . Yes c is correct. But the answer actually is -153/42. How do you put it in a mixed fraction? |
| Re: Nairaland Mathematics Clinic by tech18: 9:06pm On Oct 04, 2018 |
vaxx:-153/42= - 51/14 (Dividing both d numerator and denominator by 3) = - 3 9/14 ans |

Hi, great minds. Please I need help with this assignment. find the positive value of C if the expression (2C+3)y² -6y+4-c is perfect square |
| Re: Nairaland Mathematics Clinic by dejt4u(m): 7:00am On Oct 17, 2018 |
DBright123:(2C+3)y² - 6y + (4-C), for a perfect square, b² = 4ac ........* a = 2C+3, b = -6, and c = 4-C, sub. these in eqn *; b² = 4ac (-6)² = 4 × (2C+3) × (4-C), 36 = 4(2C+3)(4-C), 36 = 4(8C -2C² +12 - 3C), 36 = 4(12 + 5C - 2C²), 36 = 48 + 20C - 8C², 8C² - 20C - 48 + 36 = 0, 8C² - 20C - 12 = 0, divide through by 4; 2C² - 5C - 3 = 0 .........** solving eqn ** quadratically; C = 3 or -½ |

Mathematicians please help out.. Its quite urgent p^2 + q^2 = 11pq, where P and Q are constants show that 1/2(LogP + log Q) equals a) Log(p - q)/3 b) Log (p - q)/√13 P.S: If possible solutions should be hand written snapped and uploaded for better comprehension Thanks. |

| Re: Nairaland Mathematics Clinic by Nobody: 8:52am On Dec 17, 2018 |
Aguemma:The pairs (x, y) = (2, 3), (3, 2) are indeed solutions to the system. It remains to show that they're the only solutions to the system. To do this, it is enough to prove that if a solution to the above system exists, then they must be positive integers. Indeed, from x + y = 5. We deduce that the pair (x, y) must be rational numbers. On the other hand, from x² + x^y = 17, we get x^y = 17 -x² from this we deduce that x and y must be positive integers for it that were not the case, the number x^y is irrational while 17 - x² would be rational and equality cannot hold. And this completes the proof. |
