Bellerin:I have COPr already but this question is for my fiancee. Is it possible for her to study and pass the french exam ? Atleast gather a few points to boost her crs ? She does not speak any french now. How many months will it take for her to raise her proficiency enough ? Thanks |

Guitarlife: Yes. Frankly it is possible to study and pass the French exam. Yes. There are 54 points up for grabs from TEF. It goes without saying that if she commits consistent quality hours daily, she can move from Absolute Beginner to upper intermediate(B2) in less than a year. It is possible to pass the TEF exam, given the way it is structured, preparing specifically for it in 6 months. It comes down to how many hours daily can she afford to commit? 4 Likes |

Salut!, Anyone based in PH interested in an offline session for morale boosting please get in touch. I've been passively using Duolingo that's as much as it gets for now due to my schedule. I've not been able to find a window within Alliance Francais schedule that would fit my own work schedule. Posts here have been really helpful and i think I want to increase the 15 mins on Duolingo to actualy 2 hours a day and write TEF in April 2019. 1 Like |

Someone please tell me it's possible. Last time I studies French was Secondary school. I want to start French lessons next month. 3 times a week then self study other days 3-4 hours a day. Can I write the exam in April? |
Re: All TEF Candidates For Canada Immigration, Let's Meet Here! by Nobody: 12:39pm On Nov 17, 2018 |
princesschuks: Yes. It is within reach. You would need more time for Listening. You will be fine for Speaking, writing and Reading in 5 -6 months (of top quality work). It literally comes down to your commitment. |

Hearty congratulations to you and @Bellerin. Just a quick question, can you share your timeline, from the start of your current preparation to the actual exams? I got a private teacher since may and I seem to be still far with regards to speaking and listening. Do you think it is possible to pass if I take the AF revision module for 5 Saturdays prior to the February exams? I am planning to study french from various sources between now and February for at least 3-4 hours daily njbybrthnly: 2 Likes |
Re: All TEF Candidates For Canada Immigration, Let's Meet Here! by Nobody: 5:39pm On Nov 19, 2018 |
Scard: Before @njbybrthnly arrives to give you timelines, permit me to say this: First of all, you're doing well despite your perceived lack of progress and taking a private teacher helps too. That feeling of not making progress is normal in language learning but you have to persist. Let me continue by saying, the revision classes at AF will prepare you for TEF specifics as against a full blown language course. So there's a chance you'll need more than that (depending on your current French level). Now for Listening and Speaking, you need to listen to a lot of French material to develop listening capabilities. Try resources with sub titles so you don't get frustrated. Improve your vocabulary quickly - this makes you a lot better. Speaking (For TEF) is easier to hack: Give yourself specific daily objectives. For example ask yourself - Can I: Give my opinion in French. Describe something in French. Call a store to ask for the price of an item in French. Remind a friend of something he said in French...etc Record yourself saying it. Give yourself daily tasks. Your speaking will tremendously improve in a short time. The TEF is tricky because it requires CLB 7 in ALL areas to get 30 extra points which makes each of the 4 areas equally important. If you do devote 4 hours daily till February, you stand a decent chance at the minimum for Speaking, Writing, and Reading.....You would need to deep-fry yourself in French Audio Oil however for Listening. 7 Likes 2 Shares |
Re: All TEF Candidates For Canada Immigration, Let's Meet Here! by njbybrthnly: 7:29pm On Nov 19, 2018 |
Scard: @Scard I made the decision to take the TEF exam late March and did it in October so I guess I studied french actively for 6 months. I had a private tutor too for the first 6 weeks or so but I noticed I was unconsciously only studying french when I was with him. Bellerin has pretty much said it all but I just want to add that you shouldn't put a limit to the number of hours you study french...it's a language not a course. Try to immerse yourself in it...if you are watching TV it should be a french channel or watch french movies, if you are listening to the radio, listen to french stations and podcasts, if you are surfing the Internet, visit french websites and join french groups on social media. You can even start speaking french to your close friends and family (the ones that know of your plans anyway )- I speak french to my kids all the time - I believe this will help you to develop a natural rhythm and flow. @ the bolded - I also went through the phase where it seemed like I wasn't making headway. The solution is to keep at it and in a short time you'll surprise yourself. Bellerin: @ Bellerin This your statement make sense die 6 Likes 3 Shares |

@njbybrthnly Lol. Your post is really inspiring. I'm certain if people follow your model and are committed to the language, they'll eventually succeed as you have. Cheers! |
