Nice Question. Let's start from here. I'll list 5 industries that are quickly adopting virtual reality.

1. Education
2. Gaming
3. Tourism
4. Social VR

The biggest problem with virtual reality is insufficient content. People find it hard to create vr content and content in its nature has to be localized. Therefore, this creates a massive opportunity for anyone willing to curate content targeted around Nigeria. VR Apps, 360 videos, Panorama and so on are all VR content. And they require different level of specialization to create them.

Another problem is the high cost but prices are already coming down. So soon an average individual will feel comfortable purchasing a headset.

Most Nigerian companies can't compete in creating a new vr headset or sophisticated equipments used in VR. So the hardware opportunity is negligible. However, Creating Softwares Applications for VR is widely open to anyone. After having a proper understanding of what Virtual Reality is, I'll advice one to have a thought experiment and analyze how VR can enable the industries listed above. Then boom!! You have created an idea and have a goal.

Next Step is to pursue that goal by learning the tools that can help you achieve that. In my next post, I'll introduce Unity3d......

Construction companies suppose to be using VR also

Nice One.

I will prefer you have an end picture of what you want to build. Start working it out backwards. Then learn all the tools needed to achieve the stated goal.

1. What Industry are you looking at?
2. What VR platform are you targeting?
3. What's your journey.. Developer or Entrepreneur?
4. Any other previous programming knowledge apart from c#?
5. Finally, I can then direct you on what tools to use. Help you get your development environment setup. Then deploy a simple applicable solution.

In your opinion, which is geared for greater impact and adoption? Phone or vr? I dont see many people strapping a headset on but i see d many upgrading to smart phones and smartphones r become mor powerful bcmng computer alternatives. But i see d benefits of vr though- 3d escapism.

Virtual Reality is a full fledged platform on it's own. Very soon most applications would be built on VR and AR.

With products like Microsoft Hololens 2 and Oculus Quest, the limits are already being stretched.

Yes computing power is increasing and this also means more efficient VR devices can be produced. Also, VR devices of the future won't need to be strapped on your head. It would all be reduced to a chip connected to your nervous system.

The age of smart phones would soon come to an end. Smartphones won't go into extinction but they would have to give way for a better technology. Wearables are the next big thing.

you r being too optimistic here. Smart phones arent coming to an end. Infct d era is just beginning. As for chips in nervous system, it's future tech yet. You may not even see its adoption in d next 50yrs. It takes a looooong time for tech ideas to go mainstrean,no matter, how exciting they may seem on paper. E.g the virtual reality craze that's just picking off flopped in d 90s. It will take a few years nd competitive pricing for vr to b n everyman's thing. Ppl r still trying to save n buy smartphones. @$200 vr will still b out there, not a low hanging fruit still

VR doesn't need to be cheap before it becomes an important technological tool.

Not everyone has a PC, yet PCs are important.

And Yes, the mobile phone age would soon be over. What kind of mobile phone do they want to produce again. They can only keep on doing incremental improvements. Maybe 5g to 6g or attaching more sensors.

Mind you, Smartphone penetration isn't a problem everywhere. Close to 70% of people in the US own a smartphone and about 85% in the UAE. Not everyone is struggling to buy a $200 phone. Penetration is a problem particular to Africa and some parts of Asia. Sub-Saharan Africa at 33% penetration rate, is only trying to catch up to a future that already exists.

As I said before, smartphones won't go into extinction. But they would definitely be disrupted by something totally different. And I feel, it may happen sooner than you think. Change is paramount.

I'm not concerned about mass adoption. Or producing devices as cheap as $5. I'm concerned about being part of the future. I still like my smartphone but I want something better. The best time to enter a market is at it's very start. Smartphone became a boom 2012. Next year is already 2020.

Well.. Tommorow would do the Talking

Hello Guys.

Please I am working on a Masters project in Industrial and Production Engineering and plan working on VR related. I have an idea that we can later build to become commercial. I need a developer of a VR application. I am based in Ibadan and studying in University of Ibadan. I am willing to meet up with anyone around the west so we could discuss. Please mail me if we could work together on this seyibrime@gmail.com

Thanks
