ugo4u:
A former president of Nigerian Bar Association, Dr Olisa Agbakoba (SAN), has said President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration is the worst in the history of Nigeria.

Agbakoba, who is one of the leaders of the National Intervention Movement, on Tuesday described the almost four years under Buhari as locust years, saying the Coalition of United Political Parties was determined to save the country by bringing Buhari’s reign to an end.

He described Buhari’s re-election mantra, “Next Level,” as a failed document and one lacking in “conceptual overhang.”

Agbakoba, who rated the campaign document of the Peoples Democratic Party’s presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, higher than Buhari’s, said were the presidential election to hold today, Atiku would win, while Buhari would come “distant second.”

He, however, expressed the fear that Buhari, if defeated, might not be willing to relinquish power, decrying the presence of the service chiefs at the launch of Buhari’s re-election campaign on Sunday.

The lawyer spoke with journalists in his Ikoyi, Lagos office on Tuesday morning.

He said, “We clearly understand that to win the forthcoming elections, we require a united opposition. So, all the parties are simply presenting their presidential candidates but by January, the CUPP will formalise its consensus candidate.

“It may well be Atiku or it may not but the person who will be chosen must be one who has the heavy-lifting, who can get the job done.

“Personally, I’m pro-Atiku because I think he has the heavy-lifting but I will not preempt anything.”

He added, “We are all united in the mantra and the strong song around our campaign, that is, ‘Anybody but Buhari.’

“We are making sure the four locust years from 2015 to 2019 will never repeat themselves in Nigeria. This has been the worst government in Nigeria’s history.

“Unemployment rate at 20 million, youth unemployment is so high, inflation at about 18 per cent, borrowing requirement or interest rate at about 22 per cent; nothing is working. So, we need to do something to reclaim it.”

Agbakoba said part of the strategies of the CUPP was to engage with the people at the grass roots and to ensure that people’s votes count in 2019.

He said, “We want to make sure the votes count. Clearly, the signal and the obvious determination on the part of this government is to potentially rig the election and or refuse to leave if beaten and we are staring a potential legitimacy crisis next year because President Buhari isn’t (former) President Jonathan.”

Of course it is. Unfortunately, he has INEC and the security apparatuses in his pocket, so there is hardly any hope but we pray something out of the ordinary happens so the poor people can dream again and their hopes restored, Buhari's government is the worst government in the history of Nigeria only for the criminals and looters.

So PDP is now responsible for the prices of oil in the international market abi? low global oil prices is as a result of Corruption fighting back abi? No end to this foolery by some APC supporters currently the price of oil have jacked up to over $80 per barrel what are the visible changes you have noticed? Your case is different wallahi
But you guys blame Buhari for the effects of the low oil prices.
You know you're lying with the $80 per barrel you just posted. Its currently $63 per barrel. By this amount PDP was already borrowing to pay salaries.

Also, how many months has there been an increase? The average oil price of this administration is roughly $50.
You should be on your knees thanking Buhari.

I don't have the answer because I was under my parents then. The only thing I can remember is that my father was not complaining of increase in cost of commodities the way I have been complaining to my wife since buhari took over.

I can also remember that as a secondary school student in the 90s, I buy a pair of jeans from mandilas and tejuoso market at slightly over a thousand naira. That price range remained until I finished my university education in 2004. I am being 100% sincere to you.

It's not your fault that you were under the care of your parents then. Every adult at one time or the other passed through such stage.

However, the information is still at your disposal. If you turn to Google or the website of the Nigerian bureau of statistics you will have all the answers that you need. Even if you don't want to bother yourself very much, just check the prices of basic commodities like, fuel, gas, kerosene, rice, beans, bag of cement, costs of various Labour, cost of transport, house rent, spare parts, even the almighty exchange rates etc.

My dear if you do this, you will be surprised and shocked how far and fast we have retrogressed as a nation. you will even see that we recorded much growth in infrastructure under the military that every body condemn in a haste as if the civilian governments served us better. I remember that most of the unversity hostels and lecture halls were built under the military era through PTF, a lot of federal roads, hospitals, various stadium, gas pipeline, water dams, hydro power plants, even the constitution that we have today etc.

Check the status of all these before military handed over to PDP in 1999, then compare the prices and the status again in 2015 when they handed over to APC. You will observe how battered they left the country. Do you know that the entire national assembly budget was around 20billion. So Whatever that pushed it to above 120billion when they handed over even when their number did not increase are fundamental issues that should worry you and I.

Yes, your father may not have been complaining then because things were relatively stable. that's why I reffered you to the prices of things when they took over, and how fast things were worsening under their watch. which is my headache today. a lot of people were still farming, many local and foreign industries were still functional near 100% capacity. but almost all of these were already destroyed before they left government. The famous statement from prof. soludo that any body that will win 2015 election was going to suffer in administring the country because the previous government have destroyed the economy. Even Peter Obi was famous with the statement that for 16 years, PDP did not achieve any of the millennium development goals let alone going to SDGs.

You See, I am taking time to highlight some of these things not because there are no problems in buhari government, but My issue is that, I can't forgive the likes of obasanjo and Atiku who spent 16 billion dollars on power alone without anything to show for it. And others that messed up the country for such a long time only to turn back today looking for gullible minds to deceive by, saying that the present government is responsible for owe woes. we all know that it takes more time to rebuild than to destroy.

Again, it's always important that we dig deep to study the source of our problems so that we may know how best to approach them. Because when a man refuses to take cognizance of where the rain meets him, he will not know the type of bunfire he is to make to quench his cold.

Honestly I don't think anyone is saying Obj, atiku, and Jonathan performed averagely. Truth is they were below average, but there was growth.

They had the opportunity to move the nation to great heights, but they only took it a step further, while a lot of money went into private pockets. But in all this, the economy was growing and that was key.

You see, one doesn't need the NBS to have an idea of how good or bad things are in the country.

I joined banking in 2007 as a fresh grad. One thing I noticed was how people had come to believe that Nigeria was getting better. I am talking about 2007, yar adua s time. Nigerians abroad were coming back home to pick up jobs. My immediate boss In 2009 left wells Fargo as a Senior Vice president to come work in the bank here. He said he came back because he believed things were getting better, and they were in their numbers. Colleagues were travelling abroad to do their masters degree programs so they could return home and get better jobs and it was working. The narrative that Andrew was checking out had changed. Nigerians were coming home. Not only Nigerians, foreigners too. Honestly the world saw Nigeria as a fertile destination for business. All these couldn't have been possible if the country wasn't making progress.

Things started slowing down due to falling oil prices during mid Jonathan's regime but the economic team of the time would have been able to steer the ship until we return to boom as we are now.

Forget all the talk by soludo and the rest. A bank can be dead, but through financial engineering, the help of CBN and ensuring its customers think all is well, that bank can continue to operate till its able to stand on its feet again, and no one will know anything was wrong ab initio

Its the same with a nations economy. The right team would have been able to steer the nation in the difficult time without catastrophic damage as we have today. The global economic meltdown of the mid 2000 did not affect Nigeria significantly. Why? the right team, the right image. Foreigners were fixing money in the system.

Where is the economic team in this government? Who is in charge of the economy? What's the global perception of Nigeria today? These are the things that matter at a time like this, and its all south. Nigerians are on the move again in search of greener pastures abroad, even those with seemingly good jobs. Ask them why? They'll tell you there isn't any hope for the country. Its like we are back to the SAP days.

Having said this, I don't believe any president can create the Nigeria of our dreams under the present structure. Only restructuring or reconfiguration can position Nigeria for it to reach its potential. Though atiku says he will do it, but I don't know if he will but at least he says he will. Its much better than the one who says its unnecessary.

But whether he does it or not, the economy is sure to get better under an atiku admin. At least we know he will be in charge.

Who is in charge of this presidency?

Then why stating that it lasted 16yrs? I mean the embezzlements! And what do you think is responsible for the sudden flop in oil prices. Btw. Why is APC complaining nowhuh Isn't change what they preached? To do things differently? APC should know the health state of the Nation before coming to power as they had ample time to study, plan and brainstorm on the way forward. Winning an election and ranting about the same flaws that gave rise to your party winning is nothing but cluelessness. Nigerians said Jonathan was "Ali baba" among d 40 thieves. They rejected him and voted Buhari. All what APC is doing now is just telling Nigerians what they already know. PDP squandered Nigeria's economy! Shebi thats why APC was voted! Only the economically ignorant will compare $30 of 1999 to $30 in 2018.
Only mischief will make one not realize that the military sold oil at $10-12 most of their tenure and $30 oil in 1999 is a boom equivalent to over 100% increase in income.
If military sold oil at $30 and had to contend with $10 a barrel and OBJ still performed excellently then we can say he did something great.
Many of you expecting eldorado and paradise after government income fell over 70% will die if your salary is reduced from 100,000 to 30,000, but expect government to build all roads, bridges, railway and increase minimum wage when it's income source is depressed and highly volatile and uncertain.

Oil price was $27 by January 2016. Most of 2017 it was below $45. In 2018 it hit $50, rose to $79 and now at $62, is that stability in the last two years?

Some people are just too shallow to argue without attempting to insult.

Nevertheless, I can't be an expert on everything. I have my area of expertise, and I would not go and make a research on the internet to get info on things I have not bothered to know in the past simply to make sense or appear knowledgable arguing with people like you.I bother about things that are important to my space in life and those I serve. A fool chooses to know everything just to look good.

The person I was responding to got my gist. And that's sufficient.

Believing that you are sincerely in support of the present government and not a paid apologist or a tribal bigot hoping to get power to your section of the country in 2023, its quite unfortunately that with your supposed vast knowledge and depth on issues relating to Nigeria's economy, you still lack the capacity to dicipher how bad this government has been and the extent of damage its doing to the economy to the extent that you are willing to give them another 4 years if it were up to you.

My position is simple: this government is a mess. And this is the position of many within and outside the shores of Nigeria; Financial experts/economists (who earn a living working with present and historical data) and illiterates alike. So spare me your analysis, it doest change the reality on ground.
