Is HND A Curse? Someone Should Please Help! by Nobody:
My studying in Institute of Higher Learning was Sours sweet, but with the hope life will be liked palatable after school was damn glued to my heart. However, the reverse became the case, as it turned totally bittered, stinging and piercings.

On that faithful day, 25th November, 2015 when I arrived NYSC camp remains a memorable day in my life. In fact, everything during my NYSC camping and my Service Year were splendid and magnificent. Before my passing out date, I was already given a temp employment on a wee salary with the hope of making it perm. Instead, the Governor of the State where I served dropped all Corps members retained who were not of his tribe extraction, citing there weren't enough fund to continue the payment of our salaries as a reason for such fib decision. These were Corpers that surpassed what were expected of them by defiling all odds and performed to the admiration of their employers, due to their attention to details and outstanding work input during their services to their Fatherland.

Meanwhile, during my short stint of working in the Corporation, I fell in love with a fellow Corper and we got married. This was where the tortures of life began, after my temporary appointment was terminated. I was speechless, dumbfounded; helplessly looking at the disengagement letter like a monkey looking straight into the nuzzle of a gun, when trying to figure out what exactly is in it. Life has been hell for me and my family since then. Most times I weep. I do not know how to bring my self out of the pit I have fallen into, which is why I am here to seek for a helping hand. I earnestly needs help from every one; anywhere. I have done everything humanly possible to get a job, but all to no avail. Today, I am really frustrated, sometimes thinking suicide is the way out.

So my fellow Nairalanders, I am using this media to source for any help from everyone present here. I have HND in Computer Science, with intermediate skills in web development, both PHP and Java Web along with frontend technologies. I am also a Standalone and Desktop Application Developer as well as Computer Troubleshooting.

I will be very grateful for any job opportunity offer to me. A very big thank you to every Nairalander and a helper as I await positive responses.

Re: Is HND A Curse? Someone Should Please Help! by Amicable22:
IT IS NOT A CURSE!!!..

Trust me, it is not about your course of study or level of certificate (at least in Nigeria).

I have a friend who is currently working with her OND certificate and she is earning 70k.

I know of MANY Degree holders who are JABLESS....

IT IS JUST ABOUT GOD'S DIVINE FAVOUR.

Keep thriving, don't relent...Think outside the box, the conventional method of sending applications do not really have much effect nowadays.
YOU ARE ALREADY ON THE RIGHT TRACK COMING ON NAIRALAND. Do that in other platforms too.

So far, I think referral is one of the best ways to get a job. TELL PEOPLE... KEEP TELLING PEOPLE.... NO SHAME OO...

Be proud of your achievement... You didn't just pick your HND certificate on the roadside... You worked for it...remember all the stress and sleepless nightshuh?....

You that know how to write without error.....is LEMME an english word? Or maybe using capital letter in between words like you have done is the right thing to do. ITK

Since den it has been hell a graduate of Building Technology (HND) with years of site experience and good use of AutoCAD, revit architecture and structural designs. Wow I never believe I can roam abt and beg for jobs I am over qualified for.

you really think having HND is the problem. I hate it when i see unemployed graduates with HND blaming their result for their misfortune. You are already accepting failure and you are blaming it on your cert. I've seen people with Hnd working in top firms with good pay. The best thing is to be optimistic, improve on yourself and pray for God's favour anf stop thinking that the status quo would have been different if you had a degree.

Harsh but precise, av never for once settled for failure as an option and am optimistic as i hope 4 brighter days, but bros d stereotype is highly subliminal, d offensive shading u get wen dis recruiters hear d letter H in ur qualification.

Read d comment of a so called barrister above, den u get d import of my point.

You are right. But for how long? Lets be realistic, in every 20 openings for graduate recruitment, 19 are Bsc., while 1 HND, if not even with a Msc for you to stand a chance.

I will be real honest with you man, The problem is not totally your HND, it was your doing also. Why did you rush to get married without having at least attaining a level of stability? It would have been far easier if it is only you. Hope you don't have a child yet though? please hold off on that for now.

Now to job issue, You are Computer Science with a reasonable knowledge of programming and you are jobless? how? when I know a couple of ND and even O'level holders programers changing jobs almost daily.

My advice.

1. Make sure your wife is earning, no matter how little
2, Brush your programming, Learning Javascript(node, angular)
3. Build a portfolio of alll your previous projects.
4. Register of fiveer and take it from there, in no time you will be rejecting jobs

That is the beauty of I.T, you don't need any degree whatsoever to get jobs as long as you know your onions. Goodluck

Bros I tire oo! For somebody with such IT skills till begging for job. U too much for this reply. I couldn't have said it better. To the OP , no degree in Nigeria is guaranteed of job anymore. My senior brother is an HND holder and he is changing jobs any how. U are the only IT person I have seen lamenting for job check ur self if u really have those skills u quoted. Like this my Bros said, Javascript, Node.js is the way forward now. U can build scalable Apps without heavy programming lines of code. In fact , as an IT person u don't need to be talking about ur certificate anymore. Because, most people I know are not bothered about it . Some said it was a waste of time for them had it been they knew what they knew now then. So wake up and brush up those skills and starting making money at the comfort of ur house. IT industry is one industry the Nigerian unemployment situation have not been able to wreck. So don't misuse what other people are looking for.

You need to work on your grammar. It is too poor. I can't even read your write up. How will your CV and application letters look if you cant write properly?
Re: Is HND A Curse? Someone Should Please Help! by onyegwu(m): 2:46pm On Nov 24, 2018
Pls don't listen to people who are quoting ur grammar. Grammar doesn't write code for programmers. Ur technical ability and sound focus is what does the job and not grammar. Worse come to worse u subcontract the grammar part for a few change to those who love grammar while u spend the juice fat part. I repeat ! Get focused and in know distance time u will be fine. Don't listen to detractors some of them don't have the technical ability u possess so don't allow them drawn u with their myopic comments.
