Cameroon Vs. Nigeria: 2018 AWCON Semi-Final - 2 - 4 - Penalties (Full Time) by naptu2: 6:25am On Nov 26, 2018
Nigeria takes on Cameroon at 4:30 on Tuesday, November 27th, 2018 in the semi-final of the 2018 African Women’s Cup of Nations (AWCON). Many people view this match as the final before the final because these two teams have played 4 AWCON finals against each other and they are considered as the two best sides in African women’s football.

Nigeria has defeated Cameroon in the finals of 4 African Women’s Championships/African Women’s Nations Cup. Nigeria defeated Cameroon 2-0 at the National Stadium in Lagos in the first leg of the 1991 championship final and went on to defeat Cameroon 0-4 in the second leg at the Ahmadou Ahidjo Stadium in Yaounde.

Four goals by Perpetua Nkwocha and a further goal by Vera Okolo (one of my favourite players) ensured that Nigeria defeated Cameroon 5-0 in the final of the 2004 championship in South Africa. It was a very physical match (I felt that the Cameroonians were trying to kill the Falcons on the pitch).

Nigeria defeated Cameroon 2-0 in the final of the 2014 African Women’s Championship in Namibia.

Desire Oparanozie (freekick) and Asisat Oshoala score as the Super Falcons of Nigeria beat Cameroon to win the 2014 African Women's Cup of Nations in Namibia.

Watch out for Gaelle Enganamouit's amazing shot that hit the crossbar.

Nigeria also defeated Cameroon in the final of the 2016 Nations Cup in Cameroon. A single goal by Desire Oparanozie gave victory to Nigeria.

Oshoala vs. Enganamouit - the battle between good friends

Asisat Oshoala is the 2014, 2016 and 2017 African Women's Player of the Year, while Gaelle Deborah Enganamouit is the 2015 African Player of the Year. Both players moved from Europe to Dalian Quanjian FC in the Chinese Women's Super League in 2017.

Gaelle Enganamouit and Asisat Oshoala at Dalian

However, while Oshoala has been successful in China, Enganamouit did not have such an easy time there. Enganamouit suffered a season ending injury at the beginning of the 2016 season and many people believe that Cameroon rushed her back to their starting 11 when she had not totally recovered. Cameroon hosted the 2016 Nations Cup and they were determined to win the competition, so they desperately needed their star striker. Enganamouit was a shadow of herself at the competition and she did not score a single goal. She also suffered from injury worries at Dalian and had to return to Europe for the 2018 season, where she has finally regained her scoring form.

Asisat Oshoala and Gaelle Enganamouit became very good friends while they were in China and this match will see the two good friends squaring up against each other.

Oshoala has also been successful at club level. She was the highest goal scorer in the Nigerian League in 2013. She won the English FA Cup with Arsenal in 2016. She helped Dalian to back to back titles in the Chinese Women's Super League in the 2017 and 2018 seasons. She was also the highest goal scorer in the 2017 season as Dalian won both the league and the cup and she was the second highest goal scorer in the 2018 season.

Desire Oparanozie

Desire Oparanozie is Nigeria’s top 9. She’s like the female Rashidi Yekini. She was the highest goal scorer at the 2014 AWCON in Namibia. She might have been the highest goal scorer at the 2016 AWCON, but she got injured during the tournament. She came back in time to score a free kick goal against South Africa in the semi-final. She scored the only goal in the final that won Nigeria the 2016 AWCON.

Oparanozie has also scored fantastic goals for her French club Guingamp.

Desire Oparanozie's long range goal against Paris FC has been voted the goal of the month for February by readers of international women's football website Women's Soccer United.

Here's a video of the goal.

Desire Oparanozie scored twice in EA Guingamp’s 3-1 victory over Paris FC on February 17th, 2018. She bulldozed her way through the Paris defence to score Guingamp’s equaliser in the 27th minute and in the 89th minute Oparanozie scored from the centre circle to give Guingamp a 3-1 victory.

The Lioness of Cameroon, Gaelle Deborah Enganamouit was the 2015 African Women's Player of the Year. She was also the highest goal scorer in the Swedish league in 2015. She is reputed to have scored the fastest goal in women's football history when she scored a goal just 2 seconds into a match in the Serbian League.

Gaelle Enganamouit of Cameroon scores one of the fastest goals in women football after just 3 seconds. She was playing for Spartak Subotica against Pozarevac in the Serbian League in 2012.

She suffered an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury in the first game of the 2016 Swedish league season that ruled her out for the rest of the season.

However, Cameroon hosted the 2016 AWCON and they were desperate to get their star striker fit for the tournament. Many people believe that the Cameroonians featured her before she was back to full fitness and she was a shadow of herself. She didn't score a single goal, but she was the perfect decoy for Gabrielle Aboudi Onguene as she always drew defenders away from Aboudi Onguene.

Ngozi Okobi: Cameroon not enough to stop Super Falcons

By Josephine Azubuike -
November 26, 2018

Super Falcons forward Ngozi Okobi has expressed her confidence ahead of Tuesday’s AWCON 2018 semifinals clash with rivals Cameroon.

The 24-year-old said they are looking forward to Tuesday’s clash with absolute confidence.

Okobi stated that Cameroon will not be a threat to Nigeria’s quest to win the 2018 Africa women cup of nations while stressing that the team has struck it rhythm after back to back wins.

“Nothing will stop the girls from this point from going all the way against anyone.

“Not even Cameroon, they are not enough threat to Nigeria”, Okobi stated.

The Super Falcons will on Tuesday take on rivals Cameroon in a repeat of the 2016 AWCON Finals.

Cameroon Coach, Brian: We Are Out For Revenge Against Super Falcons

November 26, 2018 8:03 pm
By Adeboye Amosu:

Indomitable Lionesses of Cameroon head coach, Joseph Brian insists his team will be on a revenge mission when they face defending champions, the Super Falcons of Nigeria in their Tuesday’s semi-final clash at the the ongoing 2018 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (AWCON) at the Accra Sports Stadium, reports Completesportsnigeria.com.

Cameroon, hosts of the last Africa Women’s Nations Cup were denied the chance of winning her first title two years ago, following a 1-0 defeat to the Super Falcons in the final.

The Cameroonians also lost to the Super Falcons in the final of the 2014 edition hosted by South Africa.

But Brian has declared that his team is determined to stop the Nigerian ladies from progressing further in the tournament this time around.

“We are out for revenge. In 2014 and 2016 we weren’t good enough. Everyone knows Nigeria have beaten us a lot over the years, but we are prepared for them now,” Brian said during his pre-match press conference on Tuesday at the Accra Sports Stadium.

“We are focused on what we want to achieve that’s why we are here. We have been playing in Accra but in terms of our preparation we don’t change anything because it’s Nigeria.

“I wasn’t the coach when we lost the final in 2016 but I was in Cameroon. Now we have players who understand the game, who’ve learnt a lot. “We’ll make sure that we correct the past mistakes going into this battle to make sure that we do something extraordinary.”

“Everyone know Nigeria is a force to be reckoned with in women’s football in Africa and have won 9 times against us but one day things could change. We won’t allow our problems with bonuses to affect us. Our motivation as good citizens is to do our job and not wait for d government.”

Cameroon finished top of Group A with seven points ahead of Mali, hosts Ghana and Algeria to seal a spot in the semi-finals.

The winner of the match is guaranteed a place in the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup in France.

The girls should be wary of lioness' no7 Gabrielle Aboudi Onguene, cos she's strong and pact.....always looking for freekick and penalties.

Hope Rasheedat Ajibade starts today cos she's the ngolo kante of the team
