Who made the law that your top characters must hit billions to avoid being a failure

Marvel made 19 films, only 4 hit billions.
Does it mean the remaining 15 films are failures

Woman woman was excluded because this is the first movie from her as nobody expected much from the movie, unlike BVS, justice league etc.

Wonder woman made cash but it can't and can never be compared to movies like the Dark Knight. That's why I stated it at the very beginning of the discussion.

JL is a failure.

WB lost 6 million on that movie.

You need to understand that expections and actual box office success are two different things.

That is why MOS, BVS, Suicide squad and WW will always be considered a commercial success.

High expectations were placed on BVS and even though it didn't meet the billion dollars expectations...it is still considered a commercial success cuz it tripled WB's 250m investment on the film.

There is high expectations on Avengers 4 and Avatar 2 and 3 to out gross their recent installments.
Not meeting those expectations won't make them failures.

So the opinion that your top character must make billions before becoming a success is absolutely wrong.

As for JL, not only did it fail to meet expectations...WB lost 6m on the film... It failed.

Even when looking at the list of the top 50 highest grossing films of all time, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice only just slips in at no 46, whilst the Marvel Cinematic Universe has three entries that are all in the top ten.

Realistically if Batman v Superman was supposed to be the DC Expanded Universe’s flagship kick off, it should have been on equal terms with these movies financially in order to be called a success

1. Now, it is good that you know JL is a failure. Also note that expectations from viewers determines the success or failure of a movie .

The expectations from JL were cut short hence it became a box office bomb despise having top DC characters.

2. BVS was also deemed a failure because it came short of the $1bn expectation by everyone including WB. I posted the screenshot previously which you overlooked. Anything short of your expectation is a failure. You are looking at the money angle, but analyst will tell you that a movie with your 3 top characters should be sitting in the $1bn mark along with marvel big hits too. This is what WB expected but their expectations were cut short. This is what you need to understand.

3. There are high expectations for the next avengers movie and we all know the expectations will be met if not surpassed, hence making it a blockbuster in the making as usual.

From the bolded in this statement, BVS wasn't on equal terms when compared with the huge success from marvel. This statement alone buttresses my initial post saying that DC needs to up their game and top character movies especially if it is a combination of top super heroes, should cross the $1bn mark. So forget all this your wonder woman drama and face reality.

Dark Knight did it for DC but ever since, it has been an issue for them as they find it difficult to hit that mark

Expections and box office success are two different things.

That is exactly the point.
A movie doesn't have to meet expectations before becoming a success.
As long as it triples the investment, it is a commercial success through and through.

The link says BVS failed to hit expectations, it didn't prove BVS to be a commercial failure.

The general opinion in Hollywood says BVS is a commercial success despite not meeting expectations.

Your link doesn't prove otherwise.

So unless you want me to believe that a business man who earned thrice his investment is a failure, come up with solid facts.
