yOU THINK SO?

The number one reason these politicians have been eyeing church money is in order to have their share of it.

Trust politicians at your own peril! angry angry

Churches and mosques also have the right to contribute too bro. After all the lenders are flying private jets and living in massions.

But d question here is, would Oyo state use the said money for that purpose?

Nice move. The money for the religious bodies aer too small they should pay more, mostly the church. That's y dey have so much to build big church and get luxury cars n private jet y their congregation dwell in hunger.

True, physical contribution not just spiritual.

People here are just ranting about how churches and mosques should be tasked. Nobody is asking what mechanisms are in place to ensure the funds are well utilized and accounted for. Tomorrow, we will hear someone used the money to buy a house in London.

This doesn't make sense one bit.. levies to aid security agencies indeed... what happened to the security vote governors receive monthly, and IGR's he collects?
It's all scam, the real intentis not disclosed... this is simply a model in disguise to tax religious bodies, the church their primary target... all the listed institutions provide their own security so why levy them?
Ajimobi should cover his head in shame to have come up with such ill idea.

i de wait for the time wey government go impose levies on shrines.....

dem know say shrine no get mercy....na operation impose and die...confused set of governmet._spits_

Forcing shrine to register with either CAC or some governmental entity and asking them to display their registration documents prominently, where everyone who patronize them can see it, will go a long way to reduce cases of ritual killings.

Just announce a reward scheme with a juicy offer to anyone who reports an erring shrine and indicating where the shrine is located.

Any offending shrine should be reduced to ashes and owner prosecuted and jailed.

Before you know it, even yahoo boyz who are down on their luck or have been frustrated by some native doctor not only now have an venue to revenge, but they can make some kool cash while doing it.

A good start but the levy is too small. They should aim for full taxation after the submission and verification of a fully audited account by approved reputable external auditors such as Earnst and Young.

Good move. Just make sure its used for the right thing. Also include herbalists, Krishna and gurumaraji's shrine too. They are all religious institutions

Too many small small mosques lettered just less than 50 metres from each other, Islamically that is not advisable cause it creates division, only a single mosque is needed to serve a particular district, assuming they followed Islamic teachings they won't be bothered with levies cause their won't be a mosque in almost every house.

Let them all pay, I even hope the federal government adopts this for mosque and churches Nationwide

A progressive idea if you ask me. Good one from the gov. of oyo state for being in a progressive state of mind.

Complete your intent by assuring them that no other loop hole for crooks to come and charge them again.

Keep your records and customers should keep theirs. Your records and ways of storing them will be key in this endeavor.

The great state of Oyo has taken a lead un-african(archaic) role in pushing Nigeria forward.

God bless Oyo state and the governor. My new favorite leader in Nigeria as of now.

Look at the reason for your argument, its not economically valid enough.

I agree religious bodies should be made to:

1) Be accountable and therefore subjected to scrutiny
2) Be subjected to involvement in Corporate Social Responsibilities
3) Should pay taxes "as appropriate"

However, this current government is too irresponsible to demand for and be trusted on the above. And its not responsible enough to want to tax or levy this organizations just because they're "rolling in money"

Most reaction to this issue a parochial sincerely. This is levy not to be mentioned in a sane society. Security solely is the responsibility of the government. That is why they receive billion of naira every month as security vote. I think all of the reactions are not fair towards the church. Church in anyway has not caused poverty but government, the money church make are from voluntary gifts. Go to church today, you will see N10 offering. It is our government that we need to to rebuke from making things hard for us. Imagine biz that has not broken even you want to tax for security. God help us

For those of you saying churches should be using their money to build industries, you have a point.

But my observations are

1. Nigeria as a business entity make trillions of naira everyday. These include money from NNPC (its subs and JVs), Company income tax, VAT, Personal income tax, import duties, registrations, certifications, etc "you can add your own"

2. How many industries have your politicians built with our money?

3. Church money belong to church people and they decide what they want to do with their money. After-all, they have also contributed to the government.

4. If the government is making good use of our money the way churches are making good use of their money, our country won't be this poor. Instead, they are busy stealing our collective resources.

5. I think the church have demonstrated responsibility and accountability by putting their meager resources to good use. Maybe we should allow the church to manage our nation's resources.

If we allow the church to manage Aso rock for 4 years, Nigeria might become a 1st world country.

What do yo think?

U have a point!

Someone like me.......

I have argued for it in the past but the backlash I got from especially people in Ibadan here was heavy......

I had to beat a retreat knowing fully well what religion is in this part of our world....

I bet you,he will rescind this order because the way Moslems and Christians will vote against Adelabu ehn....nobody go tell am...

But I still fault the idea of paying levies for security....
People pay taxes,don't they?

This will be the first time in the world religious bodies will pay for their own security knowing fully well some hire their own private security in their respective churches,so what security are they been levied for?
This Ajimobi have never been wise....@ allll

I don't know whether the money Adelabu took from CBN isn't enough to run his campaign,now...they want to amass more like the FG doing their own on BRISIN.....these people are incredible.
