And his decision to remove Tor changed the tide of the game and almost cost us the game because guys were biting into possession rather than read the ball, intercept and tackle. It was an important result for us and credit to the lads for seeing the game through.

Kolasinac looked very decent in the 2nd half, hopefully this gives him some confidence.
I had to be sure I wasn't seeing wengay in Emery today, that's so unlike him
Removing a top performer for a slowpoke

It takes a different mentality to win trophies than play good football.

Why I rate Pep is because he won the title with ease just as we all expected him to. Some other managers would have the same team and wouldn't win.

Moyes had the chance to spend at United and save his life but couldn't. Himself to blame.

Klopp has spent big this season, let see if he can win anything.

Pochentino has built a formidable side overtime. Can he win something?

If Pochentino wins this season, he gets rated. Until they win, they remain behind Pep.
Which mentality? quality depth in squad and Pep can have different players for diff competition.
It isn't the same for others, when the season starts to give players fatigue, pep introduced Bernardo from his squad and both another 50M defender. how many can afford this?
Leicester happens once in a life time,Conte had the advantage of not playing in Europe.

Mancini,pellegrini all won,so what's special?

Moyes was Europa at best,he never got to top 4, poch's played more in Europe.

Poch has proved himself to be a top class manager, the likes of Madrid were after him, either he wins or not wouldn't change Jack, those who understands footy knows this.
Klopp may win or not,but deep down good pundits would rate him.

The only thing I respect about pep,is his ability to retain that player style wherever he is

Pep does not need your endorsement but I would not stop exposing some of the tomfoolery people display here as logical reasoning.

A man starts his career transforming a failing stock Apple company into a trillion dollar portfolio business and some quasi-analyst somewhere says he must transform a kiosk in Igando to prove he is a good CEO. lol.

Now Poch is trying for having one of the best teams in England yet winning nothing, but when Pep won everything with Barca he needed to go to Aston Villa to prove himself.

Do you people even read what you type?

What is special in 100pts to Mancini's 89 or Pellegrini's 87?
what is special in 32 wins in one EPL season?
18 consecutive wins?
The most EPL goals? The best goal difference? The largest margin between first and second? The quickest time to securing the league? The most away points in the EPL?

grin grin grin grin grin

Man city thread or Gunners thread?

Pls y'all should stop the pep talk about pep!! grin

Saw what Poch did vs Chelsea. Chelsea are clueless no doubt. Very very!

Porch killed SarriBall's Triangular tactics and they became limp so fast.

I hope Emery knows how to kill Poch this time. That tactic of Poch, I cut cap for him. was so so effective Mehn. very effective that even Hazard was useless, and only a Giroud could come on and do what a Willian couldn't do atall.

If City jam Spurs, I think the look perfect to allow Liverpool top the EPL.

Spurs/Poch are masters at thwarting other teams tactics and then countering against them.

Emery as far as I know too is very good at setting out a team in relation to his kind of opponent. We all saw it Vs Liverpool.

The NLD is going to be very tactical and interesting.

An Arsenal fan opined that...

"Lyon v Man City should be an eye opener to EPL coaches. City seemed to be invisible in EPL.
Coaches should watch videos of how Lyon played them (home and away) in UCL to find out City’s weaknesses. The obvious tactics I noticed from Lyon is high pressing with pace".

Even pep himself admitted the following:
"We are so delighted and so happy," he told BT Sport.
"They're one of the toughest teams I have ever faced. They're physical, they're strong and their counterattacking is incredible.
"People say the French league is just PSG, but they are so wrong."

That's why I'm always agitating for strength, physicality, power and pace. 90% of our boyz don't boast of the listed traits.

Personally I don't think so.

Holding is big and plays it simple. Mustafi is more erratic and adventurous. But Mustafi has more doggedness and dirtiness which I find much appealing. With a cooler head, he can be a fine defender.

Also playing left of a sweeper in a back three, leaves him with more confidence to push higher up the pitch.

Holding is just a 'do it simple' defender- tackle, intercept and clear.

If it's 3man defence, Kola mist start. But I doubt Emery would wana start Iwobi, The supet sub idea might be in his mind. Ozil maybe and Mhki, Dunno, but Auba is sure to start up front. One of those New kids may be on the sub bench, Rowe or Nketiah.

Tor, Xhaka, Ozil.

It is going to be tight. Placing Arsenal's 11 side by side their Spurs counterpart one could see that Spurs are marginally better...

Leno - Lloris
Kolasinac - Trippier
Holding - Aldewerald
Mustafi - Sanchez/Vertogen
Bellerin - Rose
Torriera - Winks
Xhaka - Dier
Ozil - Erickson
Iwobi - Dele
Aubameyang - Son
Lacazette - Kane

Especially in defence.
Re: Arsenal Fans Thread: The Red & White Army: 2025/2026 EPL Champions! by Spy360(m): 7:30pm On Dec 01, 2018
I wonder what tactics Emery would employ to deal with Spurs' threat.

Tottenham are known for good pressing with pace and power. Unless Emery remembers to warn Mustafi about holding the ball unnecessarily, I see him losing possession to Son. Kane will hassle you, Son and Dele will press you with pace.

They will seek to take advantage of spaces behind the line of defense.
Re: Arsenal Fans Thread: The Red & White Army: 2025/2026 EPL Champions! by Spy360(m): 7:42pm On Dec 01, 2018
I think Iwobi has earned his place in the starting line up. His ability and willingness to run at defenders, give defence splitting passes, press, etc has given us a different dimension in our games this season. l will like to see him switch positions with Ozil, that is CAM and ALW.

................... Leno....................
Mustafi..... Holding ... Socratis
Bellerin.Torriera .Xhaka. Kola
.......... Ozil ............ Iwobi ........
................ Lacazette ................

Should Aubameyang start?

I guess Emery would consider it is a home game and go for a more attacking line with any four of Lacazette, Aubameyang, Ozil, Mkhitaryan, Iwobi, Ramsey, etc.

If we play a back 4, Auba will start.
If it is a back three, either he or Lacazette but I think Emery will prefer the later as a lone striker.

That he has more goals than Kane baffles me.

We should not use 3 man defense, sokratis is the weak link here he will surely be booked in between 30mins and they will poach on him.
We also need to accommodate özil in this game and lacazette should start from bench

I remember I said this before and after Unai was hired that he has learnt his lessons from PSG and will not allow any player over run his dressing room. He is asserting his position with this team. We can see he is not afraid of dropping the big boys or rescinding contracts. Everyone in that dressing room have their eyes and tails up because player ego or reputation will not get you on his pitch.
