That is not a CBD.If we used that criteria Nairobi would have more than ten CBDs..Mombasa rd CBD.South C CBD.. Nairobi West CBD.. upper hill..industrial area CBD ...city center..Westlands..Ngong Road..kilimani CBD..Valley road CBD... Parkland CBD...Gigiri CBD..Thika Rd CBD.All those areas have those kinds of CBDs with commercial centers and office spaces.Those will be like 15 lekki or Victoria type CBDs in Nairobi.But if you talking real CBDs then Nairobi got 3.Lagos has one and maybe in 50yrs the Eko City will make it two 68816419: 4 Likes |

Nairobi Mini-CBDs No 2 - South C South C host many gov offices and commercial offices. Some offices include Kenya Red Cross, Kenya National Exams Council, NEMA, Kenya Beraue of Standards, KIRDI, Crater Motors and many others. South C - started as middle class estate but has transformed into high apartment and offices. rvp20183: Lying machine. Nairobi has only one CDB. Upper hills, Westland and Kilimani are not CDB. They are mixed land areas turning into commercial areas. The arrows in snapshot 2 showed clearly how companies hqs are moving to these areas. Lagos state has 4 planned CDB. 1 Like 1 Share

First understand what Central Business District is - before we argue. And we can argue but pictures don't lie. Nairobi started with one CBD - also called the City Center - or also eponymously the CBD - That CBD - LAGOS still has nothing close to it. Maybe when Eko City get completed we can start talking. Upperhill - transformed from upper class estate - to CBD - if you need pictures - we've pasted here - Upperhill is competing with Sandton. An acre in Upperhill cost upwards of 10M dollars...or well 3.5B Naira!!!.The number of buildings being constructed in Upperhill - will probably beat everywhere in Africa - we are talking super-tall buildings 300ms - Then Westland was business district from get go - but it didn't have CBD worth the name - and the last 20yrs it transformed completely. And if we use LAGOS standards - Nairobi has more than 15 CBDS - these are residential areas that host commercial and office spaces. Picture 1- Nairobi city center. Nairobi Mini CBDS 3.Gigiri -This is diplomacy/Ngo/UN/embassy/shopping center of Nairobi (if not Africa & Globe). Victoria Island got nothing on Gigiri. Gigiri host the only UN HQ south of Sahara - and in the entire developed world. It host also the biggest US embassy in Africa - amongst many shopping malls - including village market & two rivers! Gigiri is arguably one of Nairobi best neighborhood - preferred obviously by UN & Embassy staff. The UN Complex     The US embassy   Offices & Malls & hotels in Gigiri - including village market & two-rivers. Nairobi Mini-CBDs. 4) Kilimani CBD. Kilimani borders upperhill - but is seperate mini-CBD - that will soon become a real CBD. I think near future Nairobi will have 4 cbds...Kilimani-Ngong being the fourth. Way before Eko City complete their 3rd tower Nairobi when it had 1 CBD in 1980s/1990. Kilimani is on the foreground - with Yaya Center - one of Nairobi Oldest shopping malls proudly sitting there. Upper hill had one tower - like Eko City now.  And now in 2018!! Nairobi has totally transformed - with 3 world class CBDs - and more than 10 mini-cbds (business districts -cities within city) 3 Likes
