Not true. I just did my NSE I spent nothing less than 200k. COREN is cheaper, but you'll spend close to 100k too.

Am.just shaking my head for this country. So after have done university and professional courses I should now spend 300k to be a registered Engineer?? Why are we just putting up more problems for ourselves. Or do they think is everyone that can afford this? Some engineers are still struggling to look for clients you are telling them to come register again..cant it be free ?
Upon all the certificate in this country. We cant boast of inventions,creations nothing to show . And we have scholars, professors, and all .. have dropped my point that should be a thought on our minds..but still some people will read this and still speak negativity. After becoming a member of NSE, all you need do to get COREN certification is to apply to coren filling their form, state your NSE membership no, submit a copy of your project that was used for NSE, and you are on your way of being a registered engineer.
By the way, NSE is just an association, COREN is the main thing, you can also join COREN without being a member of NSE.
There are other engineering group that can give you leverage towards joining COREN.
Or if you are in a hurry, you can apply to coren directly, but remember, almost all core board members were once NSE president one time or the other, so be ready to be grilled, well and this is Nigeria.

My NSE project defense was much more than my undergraduate defense in terms of the grilling. It all depends on the branch and topic sha. What happened was that one of my panelist was a specialist in the project field i did.

For COREN, if you decide to go to COREN without NSE thinking you are taking a short cut, well you may not find it easy.

Most of the COREN top people and those who will interview you are very active members of NSE and will not be happy you took that route. This means you will not have a rosy ride with them. They discourage going to COREN directly and will certainly make a statement with you.

The fewer candidates going to COREN directly means bad as the interview could likely be a lone interview lasting hours. We all know, the less people attending an interview, the more interviewers have time to flex their muscles.

Perhaps wrong choice of words by you. It is not useless, it is the system within which they find themselves.

Unlike Medicine where government is more responsible for health care than infrastructure or any engineering related government responsibility.

Aleast, NSE recently got government to employ engineers at level 12 with COREN or accelerated promotion.

The problem is priorities. Government has priotized health care above infrastructure, as such NMA has more leverage on government to make demands than NSE.

A biochem graduate maynot be admitted to a PG course in chemical engineering but a graduate of industrial chemistry can.

To answer your question, it depends on what course you studied.

A graduate of building technology is not a civil engineer but can be admitted for a PG in civil engineering.

and NSE's website www.nse.org.ng for guidelines on how to register. They also have contact numbers on their website, you can call to make your enquiries.

Yeah that's one good thing NSE has achieved....But NSE needs to fight engineers been deployed to schools to teach during NYSC, it's not helping engineers careerwise.

Its your work experience and qualifications that will support his application into a certain division.

In his case, i dont think he chose to be registered as a civil engineer. If he doesnot have the requisite work experience and work confirmer, he would not be registered as a chemical engineer. Unless their was a mix up.

If i studied civil in UG but switched to mechanical in PG, my work experience will have to be submitted in only one discipline which cannot conflict to either my UG or PG qualification. Meanwhile a work experience confirmation is also required to register you under the discipline.

What do you think will happen to an application in mechanical engineering when the applicant has zero experience in mechanical but has required yrsof experience in civil engineering. In this case, if COREN registers him as a Mechanical engineer, then the did so knowing he has no Mechanical engineering experience and have given him a mechanical engineering practice license. It will be totaly wrong.

Therefore, if the person in your instance never had an experience in chemical engineering being a lecturer in civil, then i would say its an oversight or mistake by COREN have him registered as a chemical engineer.

I remember some basic fees i paid as Application fees N20,000, Registration and induction fee N56,000 and MCPE was N20,000, branch membership fees N10,000, division membership fee was waved for me at the branch level but it could be up to N50,000. Branch seminars and tutorials N15,000 (a friend paid N40,000 at his branch). Apart from several other things you may need to pay for as a group but not necessarily in fulfillment of NSE guidelines. For example, our set had a community project which we paid N10,000 each to drill a borehole in a rural village.

NSE fees are not as standard as COREN since there are branches and divisions that set their own fees.
