What is wrong with us? I hear people say the roads are being built because of election; so because an election is coming Nigerians shouldn't have roads?

There's no law that says people must vote for a particular person because he has built a road. The money for the road belongs to Nigerians and the government isn't doing anyone a favour by building the roads, it is their right! Besides, nobody builds roads in the rainy season, so it is likely this is being done now that the rains has stopped.

He sold all the company and stole the monies, all our yams gone, he was engaged in fraud collecting bribe from contractor like Gandollar... I guess he was more lifeless than Buhari

Yes, it is because of election that is why work started on the road yesterday. It is also because of election that Buhari has done Lagos-Ibadan expressway to about 70% while PDP could not do it for 16 years. It is because of election that work on Lagos-Ibadan railway is about 90%, a project that PDP will never ever dream off. I think you need another brain the one in your head has expired.

FG approves N65.2bn for Lokoja-Benin Road, N13.9bn for Bayelsa Airport
ON November 21, 2012 7:54 PM.

Abuja – The Federal Government on Wednesday approved N65.2 billion for the construction of the four sections of the Lokoja-Okene-Benin Road.
The Minister of Works, Mr Mike Onolememen, made this known while briefing State House correspondents after the weekly Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting.
The meeting was presided over by Vice President Namadi Sambo at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
Onolememen said the four sections of the road are; Lokoja-Okene, Okene-Auchi, Auchi-Ehor and Ehor-Benin City and each section would gulp N11.6 billion.
He said that approval was given by the council for the augmentation of the project cost of the Kano-Maiduguri expressway, which was awarded in 2006, from N172 billion to N285 billion.
He noted that the rehabilitation of the section two of the Calabar-Ugep-Ogoja-Katsina-Ala Road, was also augmented.
The minister said that four contracts for the construction of federal roads and bridges in Taraba, Niger and Kano states were also approved.
Also briefing the correspondents, the Minister of Information, Mr Labaran Maku, said the council approved N13.9 billion for the execution of some projects at Yenagoa International Airport.
He said the projects were the construction of an International Terminal Building at the Airport, including Control Tower and Power House, with a completion period of 24 months.
According to him, the International Terminal Building is similar to the one earlier awarded for the construction of Port Harcourt International Airport.
“The approval of the International Terminal for Bayelsa followed a memorandum by the Aviation Minister, Princess Stella Oduah, toward achieving the goals of the Federal Government’s agenda in the aviation sector of the economy,” he added.
Maku said that as part of its efforts toward bringing the nation’s aviation industry to a world class level, the Federal Government had signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Government of the Peoples Republic of China.
The MoU was for the construction of new International Terminal Buildings at the five international airports and the perishable cargo terminals at Abuja, Lagos, Kano, Port Harcourt, Enugu and Asaba airports.
The minister added that part of the funds for the projects would be provided by the government of China.
He said the council also approved the establishment of a Council on Niger Delta for the Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs.
Maku said the council would check duplication of roles and provide a forum for sharing ideas among agencies involved in policies, projects and programmes formulation and implementation in the region. (NAN)

Jonathan approves $1.4billion rail project
By on July 18, 2012
The Federal Executive Council (FEC) on Wednesday approved 1.488 billion dollars for the execution of the Lagos-Ibadan double track railway line modernisation project.
Minister of Information Labaran Maku disclosed this while briefing State House Correspondents on the outcome of the weekly FEC meeting, presided over by President Goodluck Jonathan at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
He said the approval followed a memorandum presented to the Council on the railway modernisation project.
The minister noted that the rail project was in 2006 awarded to CCECC Ltd, a Chinese company, but could not be completed due to paucity of funds.

Maku said that the project would now be executed in six phases, saying that the project would cover 2,733 kilometres.

“One major decision we made today was the modernisation of the Nigerian Railway system. For quite a while, Mr President has given a lot of attention to the transport sector, particularly the development of the railways.

“The projects in the railways took off with the rehabilitation of the existent old rail line system. Today, we took a major step to build a modern rail line between Lagos and Ibadan.

“The standard gauge line which we approved today in the council is going to run between Lagos, Ibadan, Ilorin, Minna, Kano and also there would be a phase that will take off from Minna to Abuja.

” The one from Abuja to Kaduna is already under construction.

“So, today the Council approved the project and this is a major step by Mr President to modernise the railway system.”

According to him, the project which is expected to be completed in 36 months will generate more than 5,000 jobs in the country.

In his contribution, the Minister of Transport, Sen. Idris Umar, said the project was part of the second segment of the Lagos-Ibadan railway modernisation project with a distance of 156.65 km.
Also briefing the correspondents on the outcome of the meeting, the Minister of the FCT, Sen. Bala Muhammed, said the Council had also approved a variation of the scope of work for the contract for the design and construction of the Abuja Rail Mass Transit project (Lots 1 and 3) from 60.67 km to 45.245 km.

He said the cost of the project had also been revised from 841,645,898 dollars to 823,540,545.87 dollars.

He said the project, which would be executed in two segments, was an integral part of FCT Transportation Master Plan, designed primarily to convey a large number of commuters and goods between the satellite towns.

“Today, council graciously considered and approved the variation on the scope of contract for the Abuja Rail Mass Transit Project and approved the reduction of about 17 million dollars.”

The minister disclosed that FCT had secured a soft loan from China for the speedy completion of the 45 km rail project in 2013.
