Unpatriotic elements.

So you guys prefers a status quo that's not working than reforms that'll guarantee free and free elections cos of your political affiliation / interests?

Must a president be powerful to the detriment of his countrymen?

If you are wise as one claimed then you'll understand the need for strong institutions instead of strong men in a democracy.
why I won’t engage myself in an argument with you is because you lack the will to understand politics played... this has nothing to do with political affiliation whatsoever

Like I said before if you understand politics you would have quoted me in the opposite direction, for now have a good day.

How would a country go into an election without any electoral process to guide it. So Buhari just want elections run anyhow to his favor?.. I pity your generations, all of you supporting Buhari.

PS.. I support no party or affiliated to any.. Nigerians use your brains...

Bros...lets first ask the promoters of the new electoral law some questions

1) what is in this new law that made it different from the previous other than the change in the order of the elections

2)why now? if it is this important, it should have come earlier in this administration life span...

bottomline is theres a guideline on ground in form of electoral law which had hitherto guided our electoral process.. also the promoters can veto presidential accent if they can muster the required percentage of vote in the house...so game on....our politicians are only playing politics...trying to protect their interest and not the masses

The most important aspect of the amended electoral bill is that card reader is now mandatory and cannot be challenged in court.
Don't forget the supreme court earlier ruled that card reader is not recognized in our constitution. The implication of this is that our politicians will continue to challenge the use of card readers in court when ever they lose.

Have you forgotten that the amended electoral act was passed by the National Assembly when APC was the majority in the house? Do you even see APC senators supporting PMB on this? Everything is not about politics. I also voted for PMB in 2015.

We have to face the reality that PMB has lost it and he is no longer in control of his government. His wife Aisha knows better and that is why she asked: Where are the Nigerians Men? Why are they watching the Cabal holding her husband to ransom?..........

You have clearly lost it and not Buhari.

Since you feel APC senators are not in support then it shouldn't be hard for saraki to muster the required numbers to overrule PMB should it?

ok, thanks for that. It could be one of the reasons but the same card reader was used in the last election and there was no fuse about it.

I think PDP is also canvassing for governorship election to preceed presidential election as it's currently the other way round. The implication of it is that most governors would want to be assured of their return to office so as to avoid the usual "use and dump tactics" before going all out for the presidential election. And the APC is aware that even some of it's members could decide to work for the opposition once their return is secured. IMO

On which electoral law did Bubari himself get elected.

There is an electoral law and there is an electoral process. Infact the electoral process has since began with the update of the voters register earlier this year. The election date has been set, primaries done, list submitted.

Which electoral process is missing?

The new electoral bill is a thing the members of the National assembly are trying to get to help them get reelected.

He has no valid reason for this refusal

He had.

“I am declining assent to the Bill principally because I am concerned that passing a new electoral bill this far into the electoral process for the 2019 general election which commenced under the 2015 Electoral Act, could create some uncertainty about the applicable legislation to govern the process.

“Any real or apparent change to the rules this close to the election may provide an opportunity for disruption and confusion in respect of which law governs the electoral process.

“This leads me to believe that it is in the best interest of the country and our democracy for the national assembly to specifically state in the Bill, that the Electoral Act will come into effect and be applicable to elections commencing after the 2019 General Election...

What's in the Bill?

Can anyone here please summarise? Thanks

The bill allows for electronic transmission of result from polling units to collation centres.

It approves for the arrest and prosecution of any electoral officer that announces a result that is contrary to what is electronically captured.

It eliminates the use of incident forms as a means of accreditation of voters. All voters must be captured using the card reader. This is to curb a situation where millions of voters that could not be accredited using the smart card reader are giving incident forms and allowed to vote thereby giving rise to monumental rigging in most instances.

The Bill gives INEC powers to arrest and prosecute vote buyers and sellers when they are caught in the act.

Ideally the Bill would have made the electoral process fairer to all parties involved but the handlers of the president knowing fully well that he will be shooting himself in the foot if he assents, advised him to refuse signing it against the wish of majority of Nigerians.

We are going into an election season, thus signing this Bill would have made the elections free, fair and credible. I read through comments on this thread and I marvel at the reasoning of our youths. Politics evolve with time, therefore it is pertinent for laws guiding elections and electoral practices to always be updated that is why there is the need to update at this particular time.
To make us understand where the desperation comes in, members of the Executive (sent in by PMB), Legislature and CSOs sat together to pass this amended bill at the fourth time of asking therefore, there was no justification whatsoever for PMB not to assent to this Bill.

Then if it is so important, they should veto him. As far as I'm concerned, the whole bill issue favors either Atiku or Buhari n the politicians who are seeking elections. Whether it is signed or not, it's all thesame for the masses. Why are they not pressuring PMB to approve minimum wage?, Why are they not pressuring him to ensure that funds are released to the NA to buy arms? Why are they only interested in the election as if Atiku or PMB will do anything different
