Buhari is being very irresponsible

Election rigging is the worst form of corruption Nigeria is facing

To deny Nigerians the right to choose their own leaders freely is a National security and National Interest problem

Buhari should kindly sign the electoral bill so that the country can move forward

This is a great disservice to Nigeria and a very unpatriotic move!

The bill allows for electronic transmission of result from polling units to collation centres.

It approves for the arrest and prosecution of any electoral officer that announces a result that is contrary to what is electronically captured.

It eliminates the use of incident forms as a means of accreditation of voters. All voters must be captured using the card reader. This is to curb a situation where millions of voters that could not be accredited using the smart card reader are giving incident forms and allowed to vote thereby giving rise to monumental rigging in most instances.

The Bill gives INEC powers to arrest and prosecute vote buyers and sellers when they are caught in the act.

Ideally the Bill would have made the electoral process fairer to all parties involved but the handlers of the president knowing fully well that he will be shooting himself in the foot if he assents, advised him to refuse signing it against the wish of majority of Nigerians.

Thanks

Then if it is so important, they should veto him. As far as I'm concerned, the whole bill issue favors either Atiku or Buhari n the politicians who are seeking elections. Whether it is signed or not, it's all thesame for the masses. Why are they not pressuring PMB to approve minimum wage?, Why are they not pressuring him to ensure that funds are released to the NA to buy arms? Why are they only interested in the election as if Atiku or PMB will do anything different

The issue has been politicized as the majority leader of the Senate Ahmed Lawan vowed to mobilize the APC caucus to stick with Pres. Buhari's disposition as regards the Bill. Therefore, it will be almost futile for the opposition senators to muster the numbers required to veto or override the president.

Can they please educate us by telling us what is in this new electoral act that is not in the existing one which guarantees a better and more credible electoral process?

It is not enough to just accuse him of desperation without laying the facts.
have u been passive or active?? The bill has an important clause that ensures the use of card reader without incidence form...And it will be backed by law...Unlike now that we can av 4000 registered voters and at the end collate 1million fictional votes.. #shalom#

Here is what Buhari refused to sign into law by rejecting the Electoral Bill

1. Mandatory use of card readers.

2. Real time on-the-spot live transmission of voting results.

3. Mandatory access to all party agents to inspect election materials before voting commences.

4. Mandatory access to party agents to be present during voting, collation and announcement of results.

5. Imprisonment for any INEC staff that contravenes the Act.

It therefore means that APC is ready to rig and win by fire and by force. Na wa for Mr Integrity o.

The Coalition of United Political Parties on Friday faulted President Muhammadu Buhari’ s decision to again withhold assent to the 2018 Electoral Amendment Bill.

The coalition in a statement by its first national spokesperson , Imo Ugochinyere, said Buhari ’s latest action portrayed him as a jittery President who is afraid of electoral defeat and yet desperate to cling on to power.

It said a President who knew that he did not perform should not be surprised and jittery that all security reports indicated that he would suffer electoral defeat in the hands of the coalition’ s consensus candidate , Alhaji Atiku Abubakar .

The statement read, “ President Buhari has expectedly failed again to take advantage of the rare opportunity of the Electoral Amendment Bill to write his name in gold as the President that signed the laws that guaranteed electoral credibility in Nigeria.

“ But yet again, as usual of him , he failed to rise to the occasion, being blinded by ambition and the love of the perks of office .

“ It is an act of clear desperation that the President had shown. For each of the four times the Electoral Amendment Bill was presented to him for assent, he waited until the last day of his constitutionally allowed 30 days .

“ Nigerians should also be reminded that throughout the amendment process, President Buhari never made any suggestions or proposals to the National Assembly for the improvement of our electoral process but kept delaying and indulging in unnecessary hide- and- seek until this last minute .

“ Rather, the President is willing to allow Nigeria witness her most violent elections when he had the opportunity to sign the law which guarantees the freest and most credible elections in Nigeria’ s history . ”

Ugochinyere claimed that APC ’ s plan is how to steal the people ’s mandate to perpetuate the present government in power.

To checkmate the move, he said the opposition would in the coming days unveil a strategy called “ Opposition Code 20. ”

He adds, “ This Code is as enshrined in Section 20 of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act which allows citizens to perform policing duties of arrest .

“ The section provides that ‘ a private person may arrest a suspect in Nigeria who in his presence commits an offence or whom he reasonably suspects of having committed an offence for which the Police is entitled to arrest without a warrant. ’

“ This code is the effective counter -measure to the stealing and rigging plot of the APC and President Buhari .

“ Nigerians have had enough of the Buhari misfortune and are resolved on consigning it to history where generations shall be taught on the kind of persons not to be elected President in any country ever again.

“ President Buhari by all indications is willing to plunge Nigeria into electoral crisis worse than those that twice directly led to the collapse of democracy after the 1963 and 1983 general elections. ”
