THE Wife of the Ondo State Governor, Mrs Betty Anyanwu-Akeredolu, has commended individuals and corporate bodies for contributing N9.5 million to boost the fight against breast cancer championed by Forum for Wives of Ondo State Officials, FOWOSO.

Akeredolu made this known at the maiden summit for wives of political officials in Ondo State with the theme: Unlocking the Hidden Potentials in Women: a Task for All, which was held at the Arcade in Akure. According to her, the contribution will be used for the purpose it has been made by reaching out to save lives of endangered women and for sensitization campaigns on awareness, prevention and treatment.

She said: “My address is more of an appreciation to all whose contributions are helping to further the attaining of FOWOSO Empowerment visions. “Wednesday night, N9.5 million was raised in support of the fight against breast cancer. We appreciate those who made this contribution.”

She also acknowledged the commitment and effort by FOWOSO since its inception, in tackling the breast cancer menace, which has given hope and lifeline to many women despite its challenges over the years. Meanwhile, she called on communities and individuals in Ondo State to support women empowerment programmes and projects as a way of sustaining the empowerment programmes in their domain, which should be seen as their own projects by making sure they are guarded and allowed to flourish.

Governor of Ondo State, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, who was represented by the Secretary to State Government, Hon. Abekunle Ifedayo, commended the leadership of FOWOSO for playing cardinal role in complimenting government’s efforts through its humanitarian programmes in touching and giving hope to women and their families.

Governor Akeredolu promised to support the activities of FOWOSO and said they are partners in progress, and will ensure they are encouraged to do more in the welfare of the people. The event had in attendance the wife of Ekiti State Governor, Erelu Bisi Fayemi, SSA to Ondo State Governor on Women Affairs, Mrs Titi Adeyemi, Chairman of the occasion and FOWOSO Calender chief launcher, Mr Segun Olugboyegun, traditional rulers and heads of religious organisations among others who also lauded FOWOSO for its empowerment programmes.
