Don't know if they would...plus, Dangote (my opinion) does not have a monopoly on cememt...BUA and Lafarge are still around.

How many times have experienced and educated people told nigerians subsidy must go for the country to move forward but they won't listen. This is not pdp or apc thing its just a fact.

Better to make demands from the government to reduce their salaries and excessesive cost of governance as a condition for removal of subsidy.

The ban on the importation of cement was incomprehensible from the word go!

Cement is a bulky product with a low price therefore eqqq~xtremely sensitive to transport cost. That is it is,sold close to where it is produced. It is also energy Qintensive.qqq1

Cement is a bulky product with a low price therefore extremely sensitive to transport cost. That is why it is, sold close to where it is produced. It is also energy intensive to produce.

A country with constant blackouts especially at the time of the ban had no business worrying about cement production as a key component was missing. Producing it locally using generators would have made the product prohibitive.

If imported cement (which is produced near limestone deposits close to the sea) can be imported and still be sold cheaply and competitive, then we should have been thankful.

The cement sold deep in the hinterland would most likely be locally made due to the transport sensitive nature of cement. Cement plants like Ashaka would naturally therefore have some protection against cheap imported cement.

The import ban chose to avoid the problems such as poor energy supply. The consumers are now saddled with cement at very high cost and the producers are now very profitable companies in an industry naturally prone to oligopoly.

You can only twist and bend the rule but you can never never break it and go free. So this is another twist to it. Naija don suffer for una hand.

At the time the 145 was set,there was no subsidy. If your remember, the plan then was for regular review of the cost o PMS when there is change in crude price! This was never done. So presently, govt have to subsidise PMS.
