I think a lot of Nigerians are guilty of ignorance in this issue of subsidy. The FG did not increase fuel price to N145. They simply put a cap on the price, above which no marketer is allowed to sell!
Fast forward 2years and the FG through the NNPC is now the only importer of petrol. Why? Because the other importers pulled out because they couldn't get forex to import. Even if they did, they would be selling at a loss because the N145 cap is still there while the price of oil has more than tripled from $30 in 2016 to $60 today. The NNPC is importing petrol at a massive loss and offsets this loss by using NLNG dividends to augment it's books.
The FG cannot transfer the tripled cost of petrol to the people at N220 because it simply won't fly! That is why the NNPC is still taking this loss/subsidy.
This kind of subsidy is very different from the PDP subsidy where there was plenty of forex for marketers to import products, but they would import very little and fraudulently claim they imported millions of litres of petrol or not import anything at all and yet get paid by the PDP led government.
The Nigerian media is very guilty of not letting Nigerians know exactly how this petrol subsidy works and how different it is from the PDP subsidy! This is something that affects everybody's life in Nigeria and judging from the comments here, Nigerians don't know anything about it! It's shameful!
The Nigerian media is complete Junk! I
Bravo bro. Thanks for educating the ignorant ones. I hope they can read through and understand.
What this administration is doing as regards the petroleum products for consumption cannot be regarded as subsidy. There's a term used specifically for such and I can't seem to remember.

The debate moderator is a mediocre just like anything Nigeria. In serious nations, they research the candidates, their speeches, etc and use such to ask them questions during debates. The many lies of Buhari's people would have been exposed. Heck! They could even had asked Obi about his one watch and houses brouhaha.

The central theme ought to be: To know why the VP feels like they deserve another term while the onus is on others to prove otherwise. Instead what they gave sounded like a secondary school debate.

I hope the Presidential debate will be organized better and centered on key issues: Corruption, electricity, employment, education, agriculture, technology, failed promises, certificates, etc. Asking debaters same old boring questions to afford them the opportunity to throw out fictitious numbers is a collosal waste of everyone's time.

To those asking for Presidential debate. Why? Would anyone understand what Buhari will be mumbling? It has better come with closed captioning done by an educated Fulani who can translate for mortals like us.

Bros subsidy was a scam under Jonathan because Jonathan gave the likes of Razak Arekesola and Bamanga tukur millions of $USD to import nothing in the name of subsidy. It was a massive fraud!
Today's subsidy doesn't pay anyone to import anything. The NNPC does 100% of the importation. Nobody is getting any free money again for doing nothing. That's the big difderence.
I bet you the fist thing the Atiku PDP will do if they come in is to strìp the NNPC of sole importation right and start paying people again to defraud Nigeria. I pity anyone that supports those gluttons.
3 and half years later, the blame game continues

Garri that is not subsidized, has the price not shot up?

Your groundnut oil that is not subsidized , has the price not shot up?

Price is never constant especially with commodities. This is especially so in a country like Nigeria with double digit inflation and a currency that has lost almost half its value since 2015.

yeah..I'm sentimental, you know the last 3 and half years should be totally forgotten because its not part our history, only the last 16 years .

Bros it's better to build than to destroy! You don't expect to mess up your life from ages 1-16years and the expect a miracle to happen in your 20s. That's crazy! You will always have to account for those 16 wasted years.
It's tragic that the same people that destroyed and looted our national lives for the past 16yrs are the same people coming to tell us to forget about the damage and give them another chance again!

firstly..those who cause destruction in these 16 years are now in APC.
secondly, PDP themselves could argue about the past 20 years before they took over,or did Nigeria history started in 1999?
thirdly, stop accepting excuses from your failed leaders., the realistic thing is that APC is not going to rule forever, sooner or later another party will take over, should we accept their excuses of lack of performance when they blame APC/Buhari for 4/8 wasted years?
if we keep accepting excuses, then when exactly are we gonna get a good Nigeria?
The 3 @ half years is part of Nigeria history that can never be got back.
I can take excuses, not when it has gotten past the 3rd year, and not when they can't deliver on their own campaigned promise.

Bros I'm not expecting excuses! I'm telling you that you can't build an economy in 3years! The China that that daft was referring to in the debate, they built their economy in 3years? They are enjoying the benefits of the foundation built by chairman Mao and zepeng in the 60s and 70s.
I'm very convinced that with the foundation the APC is laying, economic growth isn't far from is at all. We are actually seeing projects where our money is being spent on! Unlike this locust PDP years where the projects only existed on paper. Nothing was done! Maybe it's because there is no more fanfare associated with commissioning projects as used to be the case in the past.

I disagree with you..APC project is only on paper, and plus the economy is in shambles..
i dont know which foundation Apc is building...so you can point it out.. i hope you will not mention security, economy, security or even fighting corruption.
you said u are not giving excuse, yet all I see are excuses.
and don't call a person daft because he has different political inclinations as you.

Bros don't read economics from FFK, Reno and Fayose. Let's get facts. What was inflation when Jonathan ha did over in 2015 and where is it now? How much did we have in our reserves? What were we collecting in taxes then compared to now? What was GDP growth the last 2 quarters before Jonathan left? Go back and check all these things. When you return please tender an apology to Buhari for slandering him!

you worship politicians,I don't..
why should I tender apology to Buhari,is he god?
that's the beauty of democracy, you think Buhari is the best, I think he is by far the worst.
the 2 of us are entitled to our opinions.

funny thing is you didnt even counter my previous points, you avoided them all together..
its mischievous you want me to blame PDP when majority of PDP of then are now in Apc. lol

There's something you fail to realise! The APC as it is today is premised on the personality of Buhari. It doesn't stop corrupt elements from joining the APC. Orji Kalu defected to the APC and started singing Buharis praises. All his praise singing hasn't stopped his corruption case in court. Same as Dariye_ that has been convicted and adebayo Akala.
There is no law in the APC or any other parry in the world that prevents anyone from crisscrossing to another party. But the fact is that anyone that crosses into the APC knows that the expectation is that you're whipped in line and must to the path of the party leader, Buhari. If you're nabbed for corruption you should know that you won't get any special treatment by virtue of your membership of the APC.

Please list examples of people who have joined and escaped persecution or conviction. Please also note that the only 2 ex governors that have been convicted are APC members. Saraki was an APC senator that wanted soft landing in his trial and jumped ship when there was none. Adebayo Akaka thought joining the APP would make his trial for stealing disappear. Same as Orji Kalu. They're thinking otherwise now.
Bros you need to listen less to Fayose, FFK and Omokri. These are people that have stolen you (yes you!) blind.
Reno cannot step foot in Nigeria again because he, Abati and Okupe were the ones distributing Jonathan's doĺlar largesse to media houses in 2015. Their only salvation is the removal of Buhari. That's the only way he will ever step foot in this country. If you allow people like that poison your mind for their selfish interests then oyo. It's your money they have stolen not mine. I'm enjoying myself here in the UK.
