My brother when the people who are supposed to call him to order are doing the reverse, it becomes hard. Turning down an offer to secure your bills for the next two or so months is hard for a contractor who knows not where his next job will come from.

He may even have had to appease many gods to get that small contract.

The new and only Pedestrian Bridge in Benin-city, the Edo state capital, is now open for public use.

The Pedestrian Bridge is situated across a federal highway – the Benin-Lagos expressway – in front of the main gate of the University of Benin (UNIBEN).

The Pedestrian Bridge was constructed by the Godwin Obaseki-led Edo state government.

Before now, no pedestrian bridge existed in the Benin-city. Though, this new pedestrian bridge is not the first to be constructed in the state capital.

The first Pedestrian Bridge was constructed in the early ‘90s. It was constructed about 500 meters away from where this new one is located. It was built in front of the University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH).

The UBTH Pedestrian bridge – the first to be built in Edo state – suffered severe lack of usage. Ostensibly, this led to its eventual dismantling and disappearance from that location. That Pedestrian Bridge was constructed by Lucky Igbinedion, during his stint as the Chairman of Oredo Local Government council.

It could be recalled that several students of the University of Benin (UNIBEN) have lost their lives while attempting to cross the ever-busy Benin-Lagos expressway to the institution’s campus. The most recent being the one involving a certain Late Rita Awele.

All these informed the decision by the Edo state government to construct a pedestrian bridge in front of the UNIBEN main gate.

The new Pedestrian Bridge was constructed by Hartland Construction.

A state must not have pedestrian bridge..
Most states in the USA have no pedestrian bridge. So it being the only pedestrian bridge is no measure for "forwardness or Backwardness"

What kind of nonsense is this.

After they’ll start saying they used billions of money to build this.

In the next few weeks, those structures will be homes to people.

Laudable project but your information is incorrect... there used to be a bridge right at this same spot not close to UBTH... The previous bridge had to be dismantled after it was hit by a trailer...

They are not signs of development. They are not even for effizy. They are built when needed simply for safety.
If there is a busy highway/motorway that people have need to cross frequently, then there should be a pedestrian bridge there. You won't likely find them on street roads and roads with multiple pedestrian crossings in most parts of the world.

point of correction OP. The first bridge was built on the same spot with this current one, then it was demolished and rebuilt before UBTH gate.
Now it has been demolished again and brought back to its former position which is b4 UNIBEN. (Useless leaders we have, wasting money anyhow)

well according to them, pedestrian bridge must be built to show a city or state is developed.

What's the need of 5 pedestrian bridges when people aren't using them?
