The Promise of Change, a Change of Slogan.

By Soibi Ransom

Elections and farfetched promises are often hands in a glove. Politicians the world over have always attempted to exploit the naivety of the masses to accumulate votes for themselves by making unrealistic promises of what they will do if elected.

It was by this time in 2014 as Nigeria and INEC were warming up for the most crucial elections at Presidential level. Three time contestant General Muhammadu Buhari had entered a coalition with some major players in the PDP and the AC who were against the re-election of incumbent President Goodluck Jonathan to form the All Progressive Congress. The All Progressive Congress mainly comprised of Ahmed Bola Tinubu’s Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) All Nigerian Peoples Party (ANPP) , Buhari’s CPC and disgruntled PDP members headed by Senator Bukola Saraki called the NPDP.

The All Progressive Congress became formidable enough to snatch power from the Peoples Democratic Party who had held the reins of power for 16 solid years. While Nigerians were a bit dissatisfied with Goodluck Jonathan’s regime, the opposition had gone into desperation mode spreading propaganda and making baseless promises.

President Jonathan had told Nigerians to be aware of those desperate for power who go about making empty promises. His cry was ignored as supporters of the APC went about clamouring for change and telling the whole country how incompetent Jonathan’s government. They peddled the rumour of a missing $20 billion under NNPC’s watch and told Nigerians that with Buhari in power live would be easier for Nigerians.
The first lady Aisha Buhari was seen frying bean cakes and the likes of Rotimi Amaechi was spotted in schools sitting with pupils and eating a piece of snacks.

Buhari himself was seen carrying a young child affectionately to gain the affection of his voters. Like many politicians of his time in the United States who kissed babies during their political campaigns to court favour with voters, the reform Mayor of New York City from 1934 to 1945, Fiorello La Guardia, once carried a baby in his arms to feign affection for the people..
After an expensive campaign Jonathan was defeated and Buhari installed as President.

The atmosphere of expectation was strong and optimistic as the President in his inaugural speech told ‘’ I belong to everybody and I belong to nobody’’
President Buhari took six months to set up his cabinet with the economy suffering enormously as a result of his decisiveness

The children of hate never experedit that apc will come up with another catchy campaign phrase...so they were struck by it, hence this hatchet job they're doing. They really thought apc would stick to the change slogan the opposition have bastardized in every of their argument.

Only PDP is fooling people with the slogan Nigeria will work again, Nigeria is working already, through the measure of anti-corruption to check mate and block the looting holes in Nigeria treasury. Next level slogan is a needy slogan. we are moving to the NEXT LEVEL.

what makes u think PDP has Nigeria at heart... the congregation that destroyed this country have regrouped, they thought APC was another looting ticket, when it proved otherwise, they fled and went back to their abobe.. Dino "home sweet home". PDP was in power for 16years, if they were doing the right things, most of the issues we have today we wouldn't be talking of them. is a shame some people don't reason just because the cloud of hate has covered their senses.
