But my question still remain, why wait for them to attack your base? Is there no air surveillance so as to spot them as they approach?
I'm sure they don't have the equipment setup...

Nigeria Army and security agencies generally and intelligence doesn't go along...

Considering locations of recent atacks, one may notice the terrorists are attacking from neighbouring Niger and Chad. See where Baga is located.

If the neighbouring countries are putting in their best it will have been much easier but they lack the capacity to do so.

None of the operational aircrafts in the Nigerian Air Force fleet are equipped with radar and night vision instrumentation. The fact that they are claiming that the sorties were launched around 7pm makes me doubt this version. I do know for a fact that NAF missions are restricted to day tine due to technological disadvantages that I highlighted above.
They really have some planes that do sortie at night, I can confirm

Lai Mohammed once described Boko Haram attacks as 'the last kicks of a dying horse having been severely degraded. '

According to him, the resort to attacking 'soft taegets" - innocent civilians in the markets, churches and mosques - was a sign of defeat and a desperate attempt on the part of the terrorists to 'instill fear in the people.'

We need another analysis of the recent trend of the terrorists attacking soldiers not just on the road by laying ambush, but taking the fight to their base.

Lai Mohammed over to you

Left for me, I suspect that the 'dying horse' might have been revived.

Same NAF that bombed a UN refugee camp last year? .

The camp in question had large tents with UN inscribed on them but the NAF pilot still bombed the camp in Bama.

Their excuse was that they thought it was a BH camp even in broad daylight.

Now, I know fighter pilots and bombers can only engage a target after authorization is gotten from the base or mission commander who will first validate the target and assess if it is worth dropping expensive ordinance on it..For the pilot to have bombed the UN camp it means the Nigerian army lacks situational awareness and proper intelligence gathering.

I had to bring this up because the NAF pilots have no way of authenticating targets without confirming from base command. How then will they be expected to carry out sorties on an overran base in darkness?

Think.

Only a slowpoke will assume that the operational capabilities of an Air Force can be assessed with one Google Search.

Because I saw them in action when boko haram partially got access to Maiduguri in 2014, the NAF was able to accurately decimate boko haram convoys moving on the road.

Story.

The only night vision capable aircraft in the arsenal of the Nigerian Air Force are reconisance drones without attack capabilities. All NAF missions that I know of are restricted to day tine. I will not state why because it will compromise my identity here.

That is not as easy as you think. Because it means that there must be a surveillance plane on the air 24hrs. The fuel they will burn in one week will be enough to settle ASUU.

Can't the Nigerian Military have drones in the sky at all times to monitor enemy position and movements?

How is that Boko boys always get close enough to them to launch attacks and even overpower them....

Something is very fishy with this our counter insurgency strategy
That means something is fishy.

The problem with most Nigerians is that they're far from understanding despite their much education.

One truth you must know is that terrorism can never be wiped out totally once it finds it way into a community. If we still have terror attacks in America, France,Britain, etc, which are more advanced in every ramifications to ours, then you must know that you can not expect all zero presence of this evil over night.

Patience and support to the government and prayer for the men and women in theatre of war is what is needed.

Niger and Chad are bigger than Nigeria but scantily populated. The terrorists are well established in their territories for a long time. Their governments do little or nothing as long as the rebels don't sick to overthrow government or disturb public peace. And they even lack the capacity to tackle them because of large territory. If you observe, President Buhari usually hold meetings with leadership of the two countries.

They are not the only one joining Boko Haram. Boko Haram recruit fighters from chad and Niger where they were long established before coming down to Nigeria.
