Happy New Year everyone.
Maternal, Salford, Congo, Einstein, Blackbuddy and the rest, do you have family or friends in the legal profession from Africa living in Canada? How is the transition?
What is the best province for one who wants to continue practising in Canada from a foreign country ?

There is link on getting a PRTD under Landing. I've modified the description.
There's a lot of stuff on ACCA-CPA in thread 1, will prune them and attach relevant ones.

KINGTELLER:

Oh thanks, I saw that on their website what actually got me confused was child benefit was calculated for PR factual residency who lives outside Canada could that have implied they also consider it if dependant is not residing in CA, at the moment?

@kingteller:

As you have been told, since the child is not living with you here in Canada, you are not eligible for any child benefit be it federal, provincial or city. If you are still in doubt, the best and correct thing for you to do is to contact the relevant government agency (federal, provincial or city) paying you the benefits and honestly explain your situation to them without hiding any facts. They will let you know if you are eligible or not.

If you are considered not to be eligible, be ready to pay back every benefits you have been paid since when you become ineligible. Do not let the fact that you may have to pay back stop you from calling the relevant agency to seek clarification. Based on the fact you provided here, if you call and you are considered not to be eligible your action will be considered as an unintentional error that carry only the penalty of paying back what you have been paid with interest. This is called Voluntary Disclosures. Though, the article lays emphasis on correcting unintentional errors on tax filing but it applies in your situation because for you to be paid those benefits you must have indicated on your tax return that the kids are living with you when they are not. You can read more about it here:

https://www.canada.ca/en/revenue-agency/programs/about-canada-revenue-agency-cra/voluntary-disclosures-program-overview.html

On a final note, considering the fact that in Canada you will always be dealing with the government one way or the other there is high chance that they will eventually find out if you are not eligible and at that time they will come after you for a refund, interest charge on top of what you have been paid and potentially be prosecuted. This may even be 3, 4, 5...... years down the road.

Nice job Joo.

Happy new year to everyone.

Happy new year ... I saw your post about your Lautech transcript.. I finished from Lautech and I can give you a link to the woman directly in charge of transcript . I don’t know if dropping number here is right, and I’m not sure if it’s appropriate to put a persons private number on a thread.. I hope someone can tell me how I drop the number without affecting anyone ..

Aiming high or far reaching?
Someone talked about avoiding Nigerians due to the negativity and limited way of thinking, I can't blame the person, cause I have few examples of 2 people around me who were advised not to embark on what they wanted to do cause it wasn't possible. Yet, a lot of people have been able to climb high from advise they got from their fellow Nigerians. What I've come to realise is people give advise based on their mind conditioning, knowledge and exposure. The people you seek advise from can make or break you. The annoying thing is when some see you were able to achieve your feat, instead of them to ask for lessons to broaden their exposure, they make disgusting disparaging comments which forces you to write them off.
Go out there, meet more people (never limit yourself to your country people) learn more on how to improve your situation, when you're at a better place, you can also advise people on the steps you took.

Inferiority complex, racism

I remember booking my first airbnb, and the people canceled on finding out I was a Nigerian. As a black person, with some kind of treatment you receive, you'll always perceive this undertone of racism even though it's not the case. Changing apartment and having to sell some items, when prospective buyers come to check the items and see you're a black person 'bele don spoil' for them and they'll give one stupid reason for not buying. Saw one Syrian refugee woman stop her kids from playing with a black kid (innocent kids ooo). Is it the white person who was supposed to do a manual job, on arriving and seeing he would be working for a black person changed his mind..lol Then you see the Caucasians and Negroes complaining about how uncomfortable they are with Syrians and Indians speaking their own language in place of work. My own is if you're not first nation, we're all immigrants. I went through a comment section in YouTube were some European and Chinese immigrants were arguing whose ancestor developed Canada. You carry face like shit, I do my own shit face too, nobody is superior to me, when even in Nigeria tribalism takes a stronghold, we're all in this together.
Here I've realized you have to apply some kind of sense "not written in the books" in relating with people and getting what you want. Before I forget, that backstabbing and smiling with you at work place....that shii is something else. Well, I've learnt a lot and still learning.
One question: why do people not disclose their salary?

In term of racism. I think Canada is far better than most European countries. Here we have institutional racism and individual racism. If you escape one, u can't escape the other. In all these, we Africans are still surviving. I believe Canada is better than this place
