Ah I see. I must confess that my religion forbids me from paying attention to the nomenclature of all non V8 power-plants, which led me to presume that the M104 was a piddling little four-cylinder lawn-mower engine.

Well, when HeavenlyBang speaks car engines, the wise must sit up and take notes, which I am doing now, albeit with some reluctance.

It just so happens that I own a 1985 year 500 SEC gathering dust in a shed, due to heating issues with the stock engine, that eventually got the better of me, so I am very interested to see how this proposed conversion works out in the power department, even though I still regard the use of any lesser sized engine than a V8, as a brazen act of sacrilege that would likely offend Ogun, the God of Iron.

Is your 500 SEC in nigeria, and are you willing to sale?

Yes naaa.
Test drive before clean up.
I go even refurbish the valve cover sef.

Do you have any plans of modifying it? A turbo, maybe?

Turbo Certainly.
However, I plan to save up and get a proper aftermarket mod kit.
Trial and error modification on an aluminum cylinder head will be stupidly expensive short and long term.

That 500 SEC Euro spec Merc is going to get fixed up at some point, so I don't plan on selling it until I run out of money and determination ha ha.

You can find these cars in Nigeria, though most have been cut up as scrap, which is so sad to think about.

Look at this picture of a clean 500 SEC. I just love the aggressive front grille of this classic car, that makes it look speedy, even while at rest.

By the way KukiKuli congratulations on the installation of that M104 3.2 liter six cylinder engine

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mercedes-Benz_M104_engine

Your plans to turbocharge this power-plant will hopefully improve the horsepower, because that body is quite heavy, even in comparison to the W126 four-door version of the same car, the Mercedes 500 SE, shown below, and known in Nigeria as the "Shagari Benz", or "Concord Benz".

One of my hairy dreams to take flight in a fighter jet. Those machines are just so edgy and techy. Now back to topic, you mean the sedan is weightier than the coupe. Why will that be? cry

I'll have to consult on this.

It's been impossible to get my preferred all-clear 'white' rear lights. I'm thinking to wrap the old one in black tint to kuku give it the all black look.

That paint-job and color are absolutely superb, Oga KukiKuli. You are a man of discerning taste, a gentleman and a scholar, without question.

The car looks like it just rolled off the assembly line. There is not a ripple or dent in sight, meaning that the sandpapering and body surface preparation were first-rate, even before the actual painting commenced.

I hereby award you three hearty 2019 GBOSAS for this fine chariot that you have revived so expertly. This is the perfect set of wheels to ride for open highway adventures in a timeless classic.

Any whining or grinding noise?

Nope.
Drives perfect except for the occasional rough idle...especially when u attempt a power takeoff. Spanner guys say it's mass air flow sensor.

Otherwise, it drives like a dream.

OK. That's cool.

I have a whining issue with my w123 differential. Tried about four different replacements with no luck. The one I settled for doesn't whine but has a slight grinding noise.

Guess I'll just turn the tape up. Thanks.

Your other issue really sounds like MAF issue. You can attempt cleaning the sensor.
