"Ebonyi state is not part of Biafra, we are a sovereign state. We don’t want to be colonised again", the governor of Ebonyi state, Engr. David Umahi, warned the members of Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB.

Umahi stated this on Sunday at Nwaegu Military Cantonment in Abakaliki, Ebonyi state during the official flag-off of Operation Egwu Eke III by the Nigerian Army 82 Division.

The governor who raised alarm that the IPOB threatened to kidnap five governors from southeast region, revealed that a fresh threat from the secessionist group was received via text message sent to his wife.

Umahi, who is currently the chairman of South East Governors’ Forum, also insisted that some of the agitations of IPOB members were genuine except that their approach towards actualizing their objectives was bad.

“The GOC you are coming at a time we had note from our brothers and sisters of IPOB sending text messages that there will be no elections and insulting the leaders, particularly the south east governors.

“Just few days back, they sent text message to my wife that the 5 governors of south east would be kidnapped and that their security would over power that of the governors and after ransom are paid, they would kill them and kill themselves.

“As a leader in the zone I must say that some of their complaints are genuine but the approach is very bad, that is why the leaders of south east is not in support of their approach.

“And so, we are not against them but their approach. And as the Chief Security Officer of the state, I do not welcome them. Ebonyi state is not part of Biafra, we are a sovereign state. We don’t want to be colonised again; we are a state demanding better treatment in the affairs of our nation,” he said.

Speaking earlier, the General Officer Commanding 82 Division, Major General Abubakar Maikobi said the exercise for the first time would be conducted simultaneously across the nation.

Maikobi further assured residents in Ebonyi state and south east including other states under 82 Division of the readiness of Nigerian Army to be professional in the discharge of their duty during the exercise and thereafter, particularly be neutral in the forthcoming elections.

I don't blame Umahi I'm blaming Ipob for not listening to advice they are the caused of their problems. they have the opportunities to take

over all south east elective positions but the throw out the opportunities out. even Buhari advice Ipob to register for political party. if Ipob have listen to advice criminal and sabotoge like Umahi would have been in a serious panic

mood now during this elections period because he would have been voted out and be replace by Pro- Biafra Governor. see the way the sabotage Umahi is too confident because he knows that he have no strong opposition that can challenge him in next month election.

My observation about Ebonyi state, they seem different from other SE states ( Politically, ideology).

I have been reading bashing from other states within SE. Can we really have an insight what the fuss is all about?

This is not a tribal question, my past posts speak for me.

No governor will surrender his state to ipod so I laughed when people read other meanings into it if such statement came fron south south governor. The masses will decide not governors

Did anyone expect a Governor who is enjoying the trappings of power in Nigeria to say his state is part of Biafra? No Governor will do that.

What is however laughable is when a Governor says his state is a "sovereign state". How can that be? Sovereign means that an entity is under nobody. All the 36 states of Nigeria are under Nigeria and are not sovereign in anyway.
