that is what we call a symbol or logo. A symbol or a logo don't have to look exactly the same with what it is meant to interpret. But something a bit close to it trying to explain it.

And mind you. The benz cars and other products you see are all transported via cargo to all over the world through ships, planes etc Maybe what Benz was trying to depict by sea and air. They may also be producing boats and ship or their engines without your knowledge
