Dream on!! The world is moving from petrol based economy!! That’s why every country out there are diversifying!! So you think we are still in the 1800??
That idea is a farcade . In the next 50 years, petroleum will still be in use in Nigeria and other places. The refinery only needs to serve Nigeria and Africa where electric cars might take time to hold ground for him to recoup four times his investment in 5 years.

Besides, refinery is not built to do just one thing, but an array of things. So, take petrol out and dangote will be high up there in money.

Dangote is about to hit big....moving close to the number one richest man in the world. It is going to be a turn around. it is really a shame that Nigeria is the only OPEC member that is importing petrol.

please ignore his ignorance. Apparently he's calling Dangote a fool that didn't do his research, estimation n co before building a $11billion worth of a refinery or investment.

He even forgot there's a fertilizer plant. That man would reach 50 billion dollar mark and could make top 20 in the world again .

Lol...very passive aggressive of you, but i have already unsubscribed from this issue dear, the way he skewed his comment came across like he was completely oblivious about the completion date, I simply and respectfully hitched my reply on that, he wished me to die like a chicken (which was totally unnecessary) provided his own links, and someone else did same that projected completion time to 2020 as far back as 2013.
Even onom has moved on from the date completion brouhaha!

But since you want to nitpick, even the Kachikwu and Yemi or Dangote never said it would be ready by JAN 2019, which was what he said and I quote..."Earlier, they said it would be ready by NOW"!!

My dear, stop speaking English! It doesn't help our situation in this country.
FYG, the refinery can only be ready by 2025, going by the design chart at hand...take my words to the bank.

Dangote's net worth is $14 bilion almost all of which is his shareholding in his cement business

Thi project is $11 billion .As far as has been disclosed he is the sole owner unless he is fronting for others . He himself has admitted he is borrowing. Has he succeeded in borrowing the $11 billion? or is the figure inflated
I weep for you. You are so naive! Sorry, I meant no insults. Who said he has to use his money?

I believe he made a mistake with that refinery but Nigerians will finally benefit from the monopoly he enjoyed all those years. Jobs will be much (for the Indians, hehe), real estate will spike. But in a typical dangote fashion, he will most likely drive up the price of oil. I also expect more sabotage of our electricity efforts. As usual, more sabotage of our very own refineries.

First he needs to convince current oil marketers to buy from him instead of going overseas. Big players like Sahara n Conoil might not be so easy to win because they are usually neck-deep in their current contracts. Those refineries from where we currently buy our oil are also watching how d game will play out. They will be coming at him with aggressive price slashes, some might even offer to ship oil to Nigeria for free. Others might even play dirty and hack his plants behind a laptop in Russia. Dangote can't handle competition, noodles n tomato paste comes to mind.

I believe it will take 15 years to recoup both investment, loan interest and running cost from that refinery. With the way the world is going now with solar, not a wise decision as Elon Musk holds the future. But let's give him the benefit of the doubt that he sees what we all don't. If you are so rich n everyone around u is so poor, especially when their poverty is indirectly linked to u, I don't see the fun in that.

I really can't wait for it to start, rather than the round robin we had before now, where how crude is taken from here (Nigeria) to Switzerland, from where it is the sent to other Country where it will then be refined, sent back to Switz and then to Nigeria making us to incur so much

Perhaps it would take that long to hit full production but I think before then, he would have started producing to an extent. In any case, I believe investing 11B on an "outdated technology" is a bad idea. It will be a crime to drive a petrol vehicle in France by 2040. Expect the entire EU to follow that narrative. The end is near.

Nicely written! So much challenges ahead! Most stakeholders would feel they can recoup their investments in 2-3 years time! But I doubt as your explanation fits mine! But in conclusion, Dangote has brought something to a monopolise market and that’s something to look forward to!

Honestly, you know this more than me. I can sense it from your moniker. In my very short time at the downstream, I know that dangote will have a tough time selling his refined oil in Nigeria but there are international markets.

However, you said it will take till 2025. The simple explanation is that his contractors have been instructed by a higher power to slow down the place of work. Sabotage, but he should have for seen that.

Truth is, oil is not going anywhere, it will always be a part of us especially the industries. No country can just shut down oil production, it's not going to happen. It's implications on job creation, GDP tax revenue is just too much.

Do you see oil hitting USD70 per barrel anytime in the next 10years? I don't think so. Those E n P are still making money even at the current price so they keep producing n expanding, no problem. Some countries are already phasing out motorcycle that use petrol, first hand information. Billions of startup dollars us being invested in autonomous driving, autonomous drone delivery all of which are powered by battery tech. Even long haul trucks are powered by battery tech. Do you even know that a company will start testing it's battery powered passenger planes sometimes this year? Those oil companies are very worried about their medium term future because their future no longer lies at the pump station. but I believe they will find a way.
