Lol at the major difference in numbers between northern and southern applicants. It clearly shows why Northerners dominate the numbers in that nation's security forces.

What is the reason for this your post? What do you want us to do? "Buhari has failed", in another way, you are campaigning for the opposition and you don't want to say it in black and white. You want people visiting here to vote Buhari out.Ok, your wish has been granted by the gods of nairaland. This is not the place for you to tell us that Buhari has failed, please go somewhere else.
I think Owen has a point, though he usually comes off as annoying and repetitive. A military is as good as its government and this government has failed to put the necessary elements in place to guarantee victory in this war. The army itself is not helping its PR by always telling lies. There is no politics in saying the truth as it is.
Nobody here is a baby to be swayed by a few anti-government posts, so I don't think that is an issue. Though I get your point, repeating these stuffs like a mantra is tiring and only serves to derail the thread.

CAS UNDERTAKES OPERATIONAL VISIT TO 21 QUICK RESPONSE WING AGATU, DECLARES MAKURDI RUNWAY OPEN TO CIVIL FLIGHT OPERATIONS

The Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar, yesterday, 10 January 2019, undertook an operational visit to the 21 Quick Response Wing (21 QRW) Nigerian Air Force (NAF) Base Agatu, Benue State to assess facilities as well as the state of readiness of the troops of the Wing to deal with threats within the area. While in Benue State, the CAS also declared the Makurdi Military Airfield open to civil flight operations, after the successful completion of repair work on the Runway and ancillary facilities and having addressed all safety concerns.

Before declaring the Runway open to civil flight operations, the CAS was conducted on an inspection tour of the completed works by the Air Officer Commanding Tactical Air Command (AOC TAC), Air Vice Marshal (AVM) Oladayo Amao, who mentioned that the scope of the rehabilitation work covered refreshing of the sealant for the concrete slab joints on the Runway, Taxiways and Apron as well as the resurfacing of cracked portions of the manoeuvring area, re-marking of the Runway and erosion control, amongst others. Speaking after the inspection, the CAS commended the AOC TAC for effective supervision of the project and also congratulated the NAF Works Centre Abuja, which had executed the project through direct labour, for doing a good job. He added that the repairs, which had necessitated the closure of the Airfield to civil flight operations, as published in relevant Notices to Airmen (NOTAMS), were aimed at improving flight safety in accordance with global best practices as well as in line with International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) regulations. He further stated that a NOTAM had also been promulgated by the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA) to reopen the airfield for normal operations.

In Agatu, the CAS was received by the traditional ruler of Agatu, Chief Dr Godwin Ngbede Onah, who conveyed the appreciation of his people to the NAF for its immense contributions to the return of normalcy in the area. The CAS was thereafter conducted on a tour of some facilities at the 21 QRW Base by the Commanding Officer 21 QRW, Squadron Leader Victor Ajeye, who also briefed him on the activities of the Wing since its activation on 19 October 2019. Speaking after the brief, Air Marshal Abubakar expressed satisfaction with the level of the facilities so far emplaced while promising that immediate action would be taken to meet the additional needs of the unit. This, he said, would include the immediate provision of additional equipment and other facilities to enable the Unit’s Medical Station better serve the NAF personnel and members of the host community.

Speaking further, Air Marshal Abubakar thanked the troops for their hard work, diligence and commitment, which had ensured that peace was maintained in Agatu community, thus allowing the people to pursue their legitimate aspirations. He urged them to remain focused on their tasks while eschewing overtures from any quarters to get involved in duties outside their purview. He reminded them that, as the General Elections draw closer, they must remain apolitical and professional in the performance of their duties while exercising their legitimate rights to vote for the candidates of their choice on Election Day. The CAS later fielded questions, comments and observations from the troops.

Earlier in his welcome address, the AOC Special Operations Command (SOC), AVM Samson Akpasa, thanked the CAS for his firm commitment to ensuring security, not only in Agatu but also in the entire Nasarawa-Benue States corridor, through the provision of necessary resources to 21 QRW. He said the commitment of the CAS was evidenced by his frequent visits to the area, this being the third in just 3 months. He said the effects of the CAS’ commitment and presence of NAF personnel in the area were already being felt because the people of the community were seen carrying out their normal farming activities and harvesting produce as expected. He pledged the commitment of the personnel to remain professional while ensuring that lives and property of members of the communities within their Area of Responsibility (AOR) remained secure.

The 21 QRW Agatu has, since its establishment, not only been maintaining security in the area but also ensuring good civil-military relations with the host community. The Wing recently hosted a Medical Outreach from 3 - 8 January 2019, on the directives of the CAS, which had a Team of Medical experts from the Medical Services Branch Headquarters NAF that provided free medical services to nearly 4,000 members of the Agatu Community. This included about 3,500 general consultations, with free medications provided, as well as 47 minor eye and general surgeries and distribution of 150 insecticide treated mosquito nets and 100 prescription eye glasses, among others. The CAS has since returned to Abuja.

You will have to go back and read some of his posts for you to understand where he's coming from. My take is that at this season of electioneering we should not allow politics here, or else this place will be flooded with Buhari vs Atiku. Mind you it's the same person that recently posted this

"Most of this military personnel that do lament about not having weapons to fight, where is boko haram getting all this weapons from You have this sort of weapons yet you can't defeat boko haram... What more do they need to fight boko haram
If boko haram or ISWAP can lay their hands on manpads, then it will just be a matter of time before they will take over, hold and fully control Maiduguri“.

I've often said that the problem of the military is not the absence of weaponry to defeat threats like BH but a deeper rot that has been going on since the 80's and it will take generations of new commanders with different mindsets to correct this anomaly.

Corruption in Nigeria is exaggerated, what will their N2bln do in the current realities. Maybe buy foodstuff for IDP camps, but other than that, nothing.

If the Chinese want to help, they should give us a credit line for military hardwares.

China has a record of turning a blind eye to corruption in Africa. I am sure that once this money is released to Nigeria, there will be no follow up by Chinese officials, they will not check whether the money was used for it's intended purpose or not. Which is why I honestly prefer donations from America/Europe.
especially monetary (even though their meddling can be overboard at times) , they do try to keep our politicians honest.

Maybe I am part of the problem, but are you part of the solution?. All I see you doing is complaining.

I may be wrong, but it's a conviction I hold. Nigeria's problem is not financial corruption, but poverty and mismanagement. Nigeria is very poor, we can barely scrounge together a budget of $28bln per annum, and recently, we can't meet up with that amount even with heavy loans, we have been having huge deficits.

Almost $28bln disappear from the US every year through back door deals, bribes and lobbying. The F-35 project is mired in so much controversy, that it has become a classified case, almost $1trln. More than $20bln is looted from China every year, Saudi Arabia is run like the personal enterprise of the Royal family. Yet, these countries don't even feel the impact.,why?,because they are rich.

If Nigeria has an annual budget of $150bln,you won't be complaining of corruption as much as you are doing now, despite the fact that politicians are still stealing.

If we spend all our $28bln chicken change, without stealing any kobo, I tell you that we won't still achieve much. We are simply too big for such meagre financial resources.

What is making people clamour so much is the mismanagement of funds, even the little we have is being mis-spent, and then the brazen lack of responsibility by our politicians. That is the problem.

I don't know how anybody dreams of separating corruption from democracy. It's impossible.

You know this how? You work in a Chinese embassy? To claim they never do follow up or whatever.
China has it's own interest, and if they get something back in the long run, then who made them police to monitor what the other guy does with their donation? The Chinese dont make noise about these things, and they don't like talking down at other Governments publicly, so if you prefer the lecturing tone of Western Govts, then good for ya

You know you’re being silly right?
The soldiers in the pic I posted are from the Nigerian air force..

Look at the NASFC soldiers that linked their counterparts in Baga yesterday and compare them with regular Senegalese soldiers, our guys are clearly being short changed by their superiors, NA is provided funding in the budget every year for kitting and our guys in the frontline complain of lack of body armor and helmet and you’re here defending what ?

I’m proud of our galant men but I’m not proud of their generals/procurement officers or whoever is in charge of kitting them, deal with it bro.
