Long story.

To avoid unnecessary bank charges, do the following:

1. Bank with GT Bank.

2. DO NOT bank with FCMB.

I'm closing down my UBA account this month, those guys charge me un-necessary fees, most times without sending me any SMS, they'll just debit me.

on 3 occasions, for instance... someone will transfer N1000 to me, I'll receive alert of 1k, but when I checked my balance it'll be N800...
Same thing is being done to me as well.once in awhile I notice deduction in my balance though meagre sums but they never come with a bank statement or reason for the debit..This happens more than 5times a month. I didn't bother much because I get interest that should at least sum up those unnecessarily debited fund

Likewise some Banks allow option of notification either email or sms while other insist that sms is compulsory just to charge for the service... Ask from your account officer because getting notifications via email cost you zero naira unlike sms that attract 4 naira.. I can say first Bank, access allow this option while GTB, Polaris make sms compulsory even though same message will still be copied to customers registered email

Majority of what is written there does not apply to Nigerian Banks...

If want to avoid charges here in Nigeria just do the following :

1. Open only savings accounts.

2. Don't collect ATM card for the account .

3. Request for e-mail alerts and monthly e-statement.

4. Request for removal of SMS alert on your account.

5. Request for internet access to the account.

6. Do not request for token.

Note.!

To be able to cope, you will have to patient because all your transactions will be over the counter; you will need time to go to the bank. You also need to have money above the what you can only withdraw ATM.. ( in some banks you can't withdraw less than 50k over the counter while others is 100k). That way, if you have like 55k in the bank and you need to withdraw 5k and the cashier refuse to pay all you have to do is to write a withdrawal request of 55k and deposit of 50k.

With these you can avoid lots of the charges but be ready for inconvenience...

Talking to a Teller and paying certainly doesn't belong here. But fees can be negotiated. First bank do negotiate charges on current account.

Hey entrepreneurs, let's know how to save rightly. Stop saving. I don't get unnecessary bank charges btw

I don’t say you made a mistake to save or if you are planning to now.

What I say is – the way you and I save money to me is a stupid model because we’re only enriching those banks. What I only save for are speculative, transaction precautionary motives. Before I section my expenses on those three areas, I subtract a higher share that I would have saved to invest in an asset.
Wait! I don’t say you should spend on liabilities instead of saving now , but rather assets that will flow in more money for you.

For instance, do you wanna tell me the way a thousand Naira valued the last 5 years is the same as of today?
Even if the value digits in bank stay , this money of a thing devalues everyday. READ MORE HERE

In addition,

Limit the number of times you perform debit transactions.

Read and scrutinize every terms and conditions before signing for a new package.

Deactivate services you don't need.

Use mobile banking options in debit transaction and avoid using the banking hall as it may attract charges so as to discourage long queue in the banking hall.

Whether you perform the transfer yourself or not , the charges applies ... I use token regularly and it never exempts me from first bank charges it only makes my transaction more convenient for me as I can stay in my house and transfer any amounnt t

For your information, you don't know the kind of person I am. Do you even know if I stay in Nigeria? Have ever even gone through my profile? Are you a pessimist?
