Interesting topic. But it is a great problem for us all. Dangote has no solution to our problems because by the time he decides to operate his refinery, the fuel will be obsolete. Currently Toyota cars are euro 6, same thing with Peugeot. In 2021, Dangote fuel is Euro 5, which will not be suitable for the current cars and so the chase continues with premium fuel for our cars. We have been waiting for a respite from his refinery but he has nothing to offer.
As for octane booster, it is the best solution. Amg Benz cars uses octane booster in the US because the minimum number is 93 and not 91 for other Benz cars. If the US has premium fuel and they still produce octane booster, then what now happens to us that have regular unleaded and refused to use the booster. I have been using the booster since 2007 first in my e Class and later in my Range Rover Sport. The first time was Toulene and I saw the difference instantly but there are other additives to add and the measurements, so I started using the real deal. There are some with mmt which is not so good but when you finally get the right one, to travel is like going to the next street. My fuel consumption from Lagos to Akure Nnpc was 14 litres for 100k In a v8 Range Rover Sport no matter the speed. Most Range Rovers are recommended and some are required. It depends on the market that the car is coming from. Octane booster will not clog your cat or the injectors. It is not what anyone will tell you that they will program. The sensor will send signals to the pcm that the car is using premium fuel and the pcm will raise the bar for the injectors to burn fuel evenly and the combustion will be smooth. Ditto when the car uses regular fuel, the sensor will cry out to the pcm that this nigga want to scatter his car and the pcm will reduce the performance of the car and increase the fuel consumption. Mercedes, BMW, Vw, Porsche and Audi are not finding it funny driven in Nigeria. The Benz will be crying and smiling. Scan a Benz without the check engine light and you will read a lot of cylinder misfires with damage to the cat. Octane booster is available for sale. I sell the best in town.

I disagree with the use of octane boosters aka snake oils.... Courtesy Siena.

Siena was a major in the UK car industry. Besides erico2k car, how many cars are from the UK cruising smoothly in Nigeria?

This should have ended with I sell XYZ octane booster for X price.
And yes i agree with your position, not all octane boosters are harmful to injectors and Cat converters. Torco F500010TE accelerator is one, pricey but one of the best

Is there an Acura thread somewhere here that I haven't seen? Why not one of you guys open an Acura thread?

Expecting my 05 MDX any moment and I want to get as much info from our Naija users as possible. Especially this timing belt thing. I have read so much about it online. How do you guys manage? I read its the 1st Gen that have this timing belt issue the most.

Cc greenhulk 9icetoo HeavenlyBang
Changing the timing belt is not so difficult.
Most Honda techs can do it.
Just ensure you use the original belt. It lasts a really long time. Will probably be on the car by the time you decide to dispose of it.
We will probably get a page on this forum for the MDX.

Is there a major effect on the engine when a timing belt snaps on the highway?

@bolded....Please do.

Yup. My second one too. 2008 and 2014. Prior to that was a Mercedes baby. RDX won me over.

Nice to hear that.

I'm venturing to Acura for the first time (MDX '05). I just need reviews of Acura in our Naija roads...

The RDX is very rare here, which is a shame. The turbo scares people, I guess. Parts availability may also be an issue to most.

If you have a high compression engine and you're in the market for a cost effective fuel additive.... Find this.

Threw a bottle of this into a 60 litre tank of fuel, and ...OMG!!!, the beast was awoken.

Idles quieter,
accelerates faster
Consumes less

After alot of research this came up as one of the "best value" options among the few octance boosters scientifically "proven" to increase octane rating (by up to 3 in this case). Options like the Torco accelerator can increase the octane rating by up to 5 numbers, but those cost an arm and a leg

Even though this contains MMT it is still advertised as safe for injectors, cat converters etc. Maybe there are compounds that counter or prevent the Magnesium deposits ?

Yes for interference engines which the acura engines fall into. Your valves and pistons will have a major disagreement over space and your pocket/wallet will pay for it. grin
You will have bent valves and in some cases damaged pistons.

Please what is your advise I'm looking at importing an RX 450h for my work and it is premium unleaded fuel required. Should I get the car and rely on the available octane boosters or should I just forget about it and go for highlander hybrid which is regular unleaded? I just like the luxury with the lexus. Please help a brother.
