STRANGER !

No I am not a stranger, I don't consider my self a stranger.
I have been seeing myself in trance,in realm, years back, before reality. It was like France through Trance back then.

Been always imagining. Some nights were even sleepless, instagram photographers of the european imagery brought me out of the dark. I was enlightened by mere pictures (an unrealistic reality tool). The Google Maps also played a very eductive part, before I even had raw ideas about how the travel could be, I had known the 'in and out' of the Map of Western Europe by heart. Map of Europe in short, the cities, the roads, upto few villages,they're in my head (the hustle was real, still hustling tho).

7:45 pm sharp, plane landed, Journey was full of experience (TRAVEL IS THE BEST EDUCATION, ACTUALY).
Plane shifts to lane.... spent another 15 minutes before getting out finaly. Been glued to the window sit so as to see 'things'.

At first, I haven't noticed any difference, no feling like I am in Europe as I expected. Still looked like Nigeria but full of white coloured skin people . The airport in Lyon was calm, silent, not too busy. There were of course queue at the baggage claim but it was so silent, like the officials and workers are closing for the day.

Some offices were even locked.

The queue was 2 lines, one side european passport holders, other side foreign passport holders. I had read things like Point Of Entry questions, BTA check, Controls and stuffs, but ....

Got to my turn on queue, and here:

Bonsoir, Hello !

I replied: Bonsoir, Hi !

him: Your passport please? and Show me the visa page.

me: handled it to him

him: scans it on one machine thats looked like small printer

me: smiling like always

him: smiles back, are you a student

me: yeah, Univerity of so so so so ...

him: okay hope you have all your documents with you

me: (before nko) yes I do

him: Okay, Good luck (stamps the passport, entry 8:32 and dated)

My 'guardian' (a cousin) was meant to come pick me. Couldn't place a call. The Mumu sense in me taught I will meet him at arrivals just like that.

Baba didn't even know I had landed, Picked up my phone and spoke with the a security man outside the airport to ask to where I could locate the A Phone boot. ( Spoke in French cos I have left English to keep wandering in the streets of Lagos )

Phone boot ko, Phone boot ni (that's the exact meaning of the security man's look)

There's actualy a place at the airport called 'welcome desk' (accueil), where you will meet an officer tell him you just landed, enter the number you want to call on the land line and connect. Or better still connect to the Airport's wifi (free and fast)

Everything settled, He booked a bus/transport ticket for me, connected with the airport's wifi, received the bar code and ticket by pdf and saved the code in case of any control or anyone checking (that'll be my pass).

My view was dark, I havent still realy felt the 'This is Europe' feeling. but the roads and tjhe streets lights were damn on point.

Cousin woke me up the next day. I got prepared and when we headed out.
The streets were like illusion to me, they were like reality, they were like A planned maze, the buildings were too designed in my view.
I tried to hide my awe but the way I was just turning heads around and 'mind-wondering' the scenes, it would be quick to notice that one African village boy has landed .

We rushed to shool for registration and stuffs.

School was Big, Beautiful, Excatly what I was seeing on Google.

Actualy the registration was so smooth, it lasted 20 munuites ! (My I.D Card was given the same day).
had to choose elective courses (optional courses) through my portal and a sport course to make up co-curricular activity.
Everything was done in school. Internet is everywhere in school, hundreds of systems were sleeping in the library, just pick up on, enter your logins and browse till you sleep. Printed personal timetable (through portal), academic details and other stuffs.

Next day was my first day in class.

There were big classes, normal classes and Smaller classes.

The Bigger classes are classes taken in an amphitheatre or hall with large number of students (like General course of some sort).

Starting from the First very class I attended, I knew schooling would be fun! Damn fun !

Sat down for a complete 2 hours, typed about 2 new pages of my entries, so I just exited to watch a movie and I forgot save, then all wiped off, I came back to see blanc!

A Quick One!

Weeks passed on weeks then, boom, it's Exam! Haha calm down na ! I haven't even finished reading for heaven's sake.
Time flies!

About Time, Its an unbelievable story:

During summer (July-October) the Normal and 7am is sunrise, but still clear and bright till 9pm ! especially September/October!
And During Automn/Winter (Nov, Dec, Jan, Feb), 8am is still dark no sun, and 4:30pm is the f**king Sunset. Crazy AF!!

At 5pm everyone becomes lazy cos its already dark and be like 'why will I be going to classes or work in the Night'

Let me talk a little bit about school before I start the Phototalks.

School was serene and naturally built environment for its purpose. Its like a super garden. A very condussive place to learn. The evnironmet is so colourful in automns and ever-green in summers. I arrived in the middle of summer so I saw some summer bodies I used to see in Tv back home. It used to be soo cool , until Winter came to spoil the show .

Students come from all spheres of the world. I met one girl, one day, she said he's from macedonia, I had to check the map to have idea!

Experience: Most times i'm being mistaken for someone from Niger!
In French saying, I'm a Nigerian and Nigerien is all about nasal pronunciation for better comprehension.

Actualy, its better they know I'm from Nigeria, Most french have no idea of what Nigeria is. They actualy think its one of the regular countries in West Africa (which thats what's its meant to be!).

In no time I had had friends, plentiful, enough friends to make a football team and even have subtitutes.

Called 'Bibliothèque' in French !

There are many libraries in school, Each Faculty/Departement has its own Library But there is One as the main (General Library).
Library was my home for the first few months, I always visit every day I go to school.

The wifi speed won't let you resist , the vacant systems would'nt make you think twice. When I get tired, I don't know what to do, either go home or still continue, probably I ain't tired yet.

The University is devided into 3 different bodies with different names, usually numbered. One for Arts, Social and Humanities, other one for Science and Technological related courses and another one for Law and Economics bla bla bla, Then there are other sub institutions under the Universities (Thats how the French higher education works, except some few unis)

Libraries are always cool, damn silent !
