ogbeni stop lying the Dahomey people have no idea who Benin are or more accurately edo people cuz they never encounter u lot. There is nothing called aleko of nupe their ruler is etsu nupe and they were never subjugated by the Benin. The ijaw were never conquered by the Benin in their history also so stop lying. The Dahomey were tributaries to oyo. The ooni of ife throne is older than the new throne created by oramiyan called oba so how is Benin throne superior.
I made a big mistake when I used the title of aleko for the etsu, thanks for the correction.

but if you know your history well, some dahomies lived in parts of Lagos and were under Edo's control at a time,so I don't see were I lied there.

you are the one throne missiles of lies by saying that the ijaws were never subjected, stop blowing coals here.
almost every tribe living close to Edo were all under there rule.

the throne created by oramiyann was never the beginning of the Edo empire so I don't know what you are talking about.

As many times has the discussion has come up on the ties between Yoruba and Edo, I have kept my mouth shut from saying much. In fact I have intervened on many occasions to steer my Yoruba brothers away. They warned me that Edo needs to be silenced otherwise they will keep regurgitating their lies and cement it forcefully as truth. I do believe that time has come to put EDO in its place.

I am willing to open a new thread if it will do well to educate on the link between Edo and IFE, Edo and YORUBA,Edo and Benin. I will share a few pointers here just for now. Anyone willing to engage me should speak up so we can take this to a thread dedicated just for the revelations.

The earliest record of EDO history is with Ogisos. The Ogisos themselves were proxy rulers who drew authority from a foreign power on the throne of NOK civilization in ILE IFE. Ask EDO to share their beginning pre-Ogiso period. They have no record past Ogiso. The Ogiso period is dated. So what happened with EDO before that date? They were uncivilized forest dwellers who survived by gathering fruits and hunting small games. They were not city builders. They have never created a indigeneous State Ruler. Their uncivilization was washed off by influence from NOK in the age preceeding arrival of ODUDUWA in ILE IFE. When explorers of NOK discovered EDO they had nothing of garment whatsoever. Ask EDo to share its indigeneous garment if it had one. In fact the RED color garment was introduced to them by NOK, it came from IFE.

There are many things to say but I want EDO to start answering these questions:

Have you ever developed indigeneous STATE Rulers, and what was it called, what was the civilization called and what was its legacy?
Have you ever developed indigeneous garment and weave styles? What is it called?
What is your ethnic sacred color?
Have you ever developed indigenous cults, what are their names?
Have you ever indigeneously built cities and urban dwellings?
Have you ever indigeneously developed art and influenced other ethnic groups with your arts? Name the ethnic your art influenced.

Like I said, anyone is free to throw up a challenge. EDO is nothing, IFE civilized your beginnings, it continues to do so as we speak with its dynasty n Bini.
junk,trash,rubbish of the highest order.

europeans didn't have the weapons they have in 2018 back then... they would never fight the yoruba and bini head on because they would lose... they used the f:ulanis to wage war against other ethnic nations...

before the b:rits, the portuguese visited the SW.

Yoruba and most west African ethnic nations have never lost any battle to the europeans..

If they had lost any battle the same thing that happened to black americans and south africans would have happened to west africans..

the problem with you and prolog2 is that you guys use the european version of history because they gave the binis a "higher status" and not a "logical version".

what you call lagos extended to parts of what is now called benin republic and they were never under binis control ( there is no ethnic nation called edo ) because west africans never subjugated each other..

If tribes or ethnic nations fought each other the type of weapons that Africans would have created would have been deadly.

the knowledge to build this things were gotten from the Yoruba, the same way in 2019 there are millions of non-yoruba getting education in the yoruba nation and are been taught by yoruba teachers and non-yoruba teachers who have been influenced by yoruba teachers.

slavery never existed or happened in west africa.

again, your love for "european version of history" is making you not to use your logical reasoning abilities.
mister, you only contradict yourself by what you say.

most of all the facts you brought here were all made known to you through western or white influence, so which one is the European version here.

Bro, oranmiyan, odudwa, ogiso are all stories, fables. There is no record of them. When Yoruba want to rewrite history, they start by using these fables. History begins with documents written in the period which they describe. Precolonial maps and texts talking about what is happening before the eyes of whomever is making them is history. These Yoruba fools, just enter a logical discussion with them and watch how they melt and keep saying unsubstantiated things and asking irrelevant questions while repeating their disproven claims.

It is pathetic to see these kind of nonsense spewed out over a traditional celebration.

If this was a Christian celebration everyone of you would not have the audacity to send out these rubbish. All you would say is Happy Easter, Happy Christmas, Eku Odun. If it was Muslim celebration, we would be hearing Barka Sallah, Eid Mubarak, Eku Odun.

Judaism, Christianity and Islam, all had their foundation in Yoruba cult. Even if they did not, this is a festivity for the culture ifyou cannot say Happy Osoosi Day, or Happy Obatala Day,then keep quiet, please!

Where do you stand?! What do you mean by "even if they did not" after already saying they did have their foundation in Yoruba cult. Why the confusion.

I am not a supremacist in any way, but I just hate when some people try to rewrite history. Africa of today is a big mess, Africa is fvcked up. Our only heritage from our ancestors is our history, yet some ignorant people with low self esteem are trying to usurp and destroy African history just because they think their own history makes them inferior to others. Indeed it is not lost on anyone that a huge chunk of Yoruba actually descend from slaves who were freed in the Americas and deposed in the southwest of what we now call Nigeria. But guess what, the Jews were also slaves in the passed, yet they embrace their history and thrive. So people accept your history as your heritage, stop trying to rewrite it. And thrive ! You hear me, Yoruba ?

If people treat you like an outcast, it's not their fault. Colonisation, religion and Westernisation made them to be like that.

It's your duty too to make them understand.

Stop your evil heart because that's the same thing that makes people who don't practice what you practice see you and the culture and religion and traditions you practice look evil and backwards.

I have done so, and on Wikipedia your reference starts as thus:

"Starting from the 1830s, many emancipated Africans who had been through forced labour and discrimination in Brazil began moving back to Lagos bringing along with them some cultural and social sensibilities adapted from their sojourn in Latin America. These emancipated Africans were often called 'Aguda' or 'Maro' and also included returnees from Cuba."

And so why were they returning to Africa if ACTUALLY they belong to the Americas as their own origin and not slaves being returned to their of origin.

IS IT A NON-ACTUAL HISTORY THE FACT THAT EUROPEANS TRAVEL FAR AWAY FROM THEIR SHORES TO PRACTICE SUCH A DEHUMANIZATION CALLED SLAVE TRADE IN AFRICA?!

And from this evidence of yours, Lagos must be centre of the Yoruba people and and before 1830 there was no such tribe as YORUBA in that Geographical location. WHO WERE THOSE PEOPLE CALLING THESE EMANCIPATED SLAVES AGUDA?! WHAT PEOPLE WERE THEY?! And since there was no such geographical location existing as Lagos as to that date mentioned what was that place called and the people living there.

grin you mean you also contributed to the same Wikipedia you are telling us lacks authenticity?!

Any way HISTORY means his own story, HIS-STORY. Thank you for your time. Perhaps Wikipedia ought to be banned for being a hood of misinformation.

Then I still find the following on Wikipedia to be so true.

"The first recorded repatriation of African people from Brazil to what is now Nigeria was a government-lead deportation in 1835 in the aftermath of a Yoruba and Hausa led rebellion in the city of Salvador known as the Malê Revolt.[2] After the rebellion, the Brazilian government fearful of further insurrection allowed freed or manumitted Africans the option to return home or keep paying an exorbitant tax to the government.[3] A few Africans who were free and had saved some money were able to return to Africa as a result of the tough conditions, taxation, racism and homesickness. In 1851, 60 Mina Africans to put together $4,000 to charter a vehicle for Badagry.[3]

After slavery was abolished in Cuba and Brazil in 1886 and 1888 respectively, further migration to Lagos continued. Many of the returnees chose to return to Nigeria for cultural, missionary and economic reasons. Many of them descended from the Yoruba. In Lagos, they were given the watery terrains of Popo Aguda as their settlement. By the 1880s, they comprised about 9% of the population of Lagos. Towards the end of 1920, the migration stopped.

Though, coastal Lagos was the preferred destination, most of the returnees were descendants of groups such as Ijeshas, Oyos, Ijebu and Egba based in the interior. The Agudas were aware of their home cities but preferred to set up shop in Lagos because it was conducive for trade, they were warmly received in Badagry and also because of on-going wars in the interior. A ship with Agudas docking in Badagry can be welcomed by crowds of children hailing them as they disembark from the ship.[4] In some cases, the Oba gave them land to build a house and provided men to assist them in their transition to local life.

Chidorx60:
what you are saying is not actually correct, ogiso were the first kings of Benin people, but one out of our own obas invented the title Oba,and the Yorubas adopted it,take it or leave it.

the Esanword for king is Ojie, while Benin refer to kings as duke using the word Enogie.

but the word Oba is reserved for the emperor which is ruler of the eweka dynasty.
it is only Yorubas that refer to any king as oba because they don't know the origin nor essence of the title.

yoruba refer to any king as Oba becauce the word Oba means king. literally 'he who dominates'
Oba has no meaning in Benin, as i have read the title od the Oba of Benin is actually 'Omo n'Oba' meaning Child of the Oba, and the Oba here is Oranmiyan, a Yoruba man, because it was Oranmiyan who brought the Oba title to Benin
