Bought this half bag of oranges for N600 (Six hundred Naira not 6k) somewhere in Benue State. The orange seller by my estate gate here in Lagos sells 3 or 4 oranges for N100 depending on their size.

Annoying part is some of the sellers won't sell theirs by the end of the day.

While farmers are producing, not much is being done for further processing of these agricultural products which end up wasting.

Also, Bag of Garri N2200
15 Tubers of yam N3000

You wan chop the full bag?

Food basket of the nation
So just orange and yam is what constitutes food basket of a nation? Other states like kebbi, kano, jigawa alone bring out hundreds of trailers of maize, millet, soghum, tomatoes, wheat, soya beans, rice, cows, sheeps, goats etc per day. Now those are the real food baskets of nigeria. But i still admire the farming prowess of the benue state indigines, those people can really farm. My eyes saw the most giant yams and mango in benue. How i wish they would just be allowed to farm in peace which they are extremly good at

Bro na cost of transportation be the issue o. Then those animals who spends their lives on highways claiming "revenue officers" or "food produce". Then add police and army checkpoints.

But na business Wey I Sha still plan do and Wey people dey do already.

that's even the least problem. I think the major problem here is getting who to buy! When the products finally arrive. Because they are perishable items. The major problem is who to buy ? if the answer to this question is easy. Everyone will be doing it. Business ain't that easy as it may seem.

Don't forget the cost of logistics (transport, loading/unloading, storage until sold, labour, opportunity cost etc.) to bring it from Benue to Lagos to sell it.

To be honest with you, I didn't feel the need to haggle the price. Like I was cheating her or something. Last year I got almost same size for N300 and the girl offered me another bag for same price but the one I paid for was more than enough.
Abeg is there a way u can help buy this yam and it will get to lagos

That's my state. We produce so much with no enabling environment or government policies/support. This is the one part I will blame the governor. If he had keyed into the agricultural potentials of Benue state the possibilities are endless. Really saddening.

This is the sad story of Nigeria as a nation...
No single fruit juice processing factory in this axis...
To buy oranges from these hardworking, honest farmers at a guaranteed price throughout the year....
Process it into fruit juice & create employment for young graduates of Benue State...
And yet we have the Gemades, David Mark, Akume, Ortoms, Suswan, Audu Ogbe, in that axis...etc
Terrago fruit juice commissioned in 2012 in Benue State was a scam...
It is cheaper to buy imported concentrate than buying from the locals... so they decide to sell it off....
From the SW, SS, SE to the NC, NW & NE... same story for all sector of Agric Biz....
Yet you want graduates to embrace farming....
So sad ......

You have a point too. One just have to look for a buyer like restaurants and be their supplier.

This are the people that should be enjoying rail services, but no, the government doesn't think about that.

Sense will not kill you. This is what a leader should have done. If I become the president of nigeria, that's what I will do

Do you have any 5million you are not using?
you don't need 5 million bro, if you can't manage a few thousands, you can't manage 5 million.

One of my friend started his importation with N13,500 and today he boast of. N35,000,000 revenue last year.

You might say not possible but it is... Your most important tool is the knowledge of how to turn profit to get that.

We must learn to imbibe the spirit of starting small...

How does benue neighbour cross river?
.

Cross River State is the Largest state in the South-South Region
Shares boundary with Abia, Ebonyi by the West, Benue State up North (Ogoja,Bekwara,Obudu LGAs), the entire eastern boundary with Cameroon, down south with Akwa Ibom, &cameroon by Bakassi axis.
it takes a driver more than 5hrs to get to Obudu or Ogoja a major town from Calabar the state capital to cross over to Benue State.

I have a friend who is into this orange biznes, she buys from Gboko and send to Kano and she’s really making it.
She told me she started the biznes with about 10k but today she pays for full trailer load to convey her orange alone to Kano.

Business idea for the discerning mind.
Everybody knows this. It isn't any complex mathematics.
The problem you will have is storage. I once lived in the UK. Those guys have refrigerated trucks. I mean Trailer. The refrigeration keeps the food from spoiling. From the farm straight to the supermarket. Road is good. No porthole. No Abegero collecting money. No police particulars check point.
I know a guy who has refrigerated truck in Lagos. The compressor, engine. Everything spoilt. No money or expert to repair it.
-
In Nigeria, we don't like or know how to repair complex oyibo machinery. We just give up and throw things away instead of setting up technical schools with tools to learn how to fabricate, manufacture and repair any kind of machine.
