what if we generate electricity from solar energy (your country is sunny grin ) an the sell the extra to the gov through feeding it to the grid like in some western countries. It could be a game changer for some of ths folks.

True grin

But Nigeria's problem is not only generation, it's the whole value chain. Generation, transmission, distribution.

Installed capacity: more than 10,000mw

Average gen capacity: 3500-4000mw (we need to make sure all our plants are working at optimum capacity first)

Transmission capacity: about 5000mw (there was a time when generating companies (Gencos) manage to generate about 7000mw but 2000mw was stranded because it cannot be transmitted)

Distribution capacity: 6000mw plus.

So you see. It doesn't matter if we build 100 mega plants, the transmission company can't transmit to distribution companies (DisCos) and even if they manage to transmit all of it, discos can't distribute all of it.

Which is why government is more focused on overhauling existing plants and building more substations than building new plants.

And Nigeria's grid is too centralized. We need to break it up into more efficient mini grids.

[quote author=Jonraid post=74977124]Q: What are the revenue collection agencies of nigeria?

A: nigeria has many Revenue Collection Agencies, but the major ones are: FIRS, NCS, DPR, Others (NPA, NIMASSA, JAMB etc).#WhereIsTheBalance?

FIRS - Collects the following taxes on behalf of the Federal Republic of nigeria. - Company Income Tax (CIT)
- Petroleum Profit Tax (PPT)
- VAT
- Personal Income Tax
- WHT
- Education Tax
- Stamp Duties
- Capital Gains Tax
- NITDF Levy

Nigerian Customs Services
- Custom and Excise Duties.

Department of Petroleum Resources (via the NNPC)
- Royalties on Oil Producing fields
- Rent accruing from awarded concession
- Gas flaring penalties.

Others:
- NPA
- NIMASA
- JAMB
- Stolen Asset Recovery's
- Dividend
- etc

#WhereIsTheBalance?

Q: Where is the revenue collected by these agencies paid into?

A: They are paid into the Federation Account from where a committee known as FAAC meets monthly to divide it among the Federating units in accordance to the revenue sharing formula.
#WhereIsTheBalance?

Q: What is the sharing formula used by FAAC?

A: The sharing formula is
- FG: 52.68%
- States: 26.72%
- Local Govt: 20.60%
- There is an additional 13% derivation paid to oil producing states from oil proceeds based on the derivation principle.

#WhereIsTheBalance?

Q: Does it mean that all revenue are shared in accordance to that formula?

A: No. The VAT collected by FIRS and paid into the Federation Account is shared with a different formula.
- FG: 15%
- States: 50%
- LG: 35%
#WhereIsTheBalance?

Q: How much did d Federal Republic of nigeria earn in 2018?
A: We don’t have the full figures, but from public records, we can estimate
FIRS – N5.3 Trillion
NCS - N1.2 Trillion (Prorate from claim of N800B collected as at Aug)
DPR - N7 Trillion
Others - N500B
#WhereIsTheBalance?

Q: What is the estimated FG share of this amount?

A: First, let’s back out VAT. We know that out of VAT of N1 Trillion, the FG collects 15% which is = N150 Billion. 2ndly, we need to back out the 13% derivation from oil proceeds as well as other deductions.

Using the basic rule of the thumb, from an estimated revenue of N14Trillion, we can estimate that revenue available to the FG can't be higher than N6.5Trillion. Even this is generous just reflecting on 2018 budget performance figures.

Breakdown Of The 2019 FGN Budget ProposalThe Nigerian economy emerged from recession in Q2 2017, and the macroeconomic environment has stabilized and is recovering gradually. This has renewed confidence in the country’s growth prospects.

#WhereIsTheBalance?

Q: And the N9 Trillion Budget?
A: The N9 Trillion budget is the budget of d Federal Govt of nigeria and not the Federal Republic of nigeria. This means that the FG can only budget on its portion of federally collected revenue & not total collect-able revenue.

Since we estimate that the maximum revenue available to the FG would be N6.5 Trillion and the FG intends to spend N9 Trillion, what this means is that the FG will have to spend more than it earns and borrow the difference. This is what we call budget deficit.#WhereIsTheBalance?

Q: So where is the balance?

A: The balance is with your State Govt and Local Govt. Please engage them. Ask them questions. Challenge them to show you what they're doing with the amt of money they

OMFG!? Not even an experienced tax expert can make head or tail of all that-what the actual fvkc? Competing collection agencies, rival sharing formulas etc etc,aiyayaya,rvp20183,kuja uone!

For those interested,
The FG's fears in refusing to sign the free trade is not unwarranted.

"NAN learnt, however, that the prohibited Ghanaian goods were actually manufactured in other countries and shipped to Ghana for re-packaging and export to Nigeria"

https://punchng.com/accept-goods-made-in-ghana-diplomat-pleads-with-nigerians/amp/

Nigeria despite it's shortcomings is still one of the most attractive and lucrative market on the continent, so such underhand practice by the Europeans/Americans or wherever the goods are coming from is not surprising.

And this is not the first time.

Benin Republic imports way more rice than it needs, guess where it gets smuggled to. Nigeria.

Same goes for cars, especially used ones.

I am all for signing the agreement because it would transform Africa as a whole but not at the detriment of Nigeria.

We need African countries to manufacture automobile fully made in africa
Without importing some parts
You mean there are no Africans who can innovate vehicle engines must we import them

Uganda students did well by innovating a solar powered bus

You are a Nigerian.
Be bold enough to be objective

Mobius isnt Kenyan, its owned by British

When we talk indigenous brands owned by real blacks

Kenya is found wanting
SA is found under the hole

I can see that that impoverished black SA white man ass licker is back
SA dare not toil with NG
We dominate their business chain, take over their shops in Jo'burg and lastly take their ladies

Black south Africans have less than 10% feasible business on the stock exchange

Kenya and SA are ornithological specimens who variably conglomerate to their various proximity. They suffer modern colonial rule.Whites decide and command too much in their country

Watch as they come to attack me gringrin

I'm taking a risk and assuming you're capable of reasoning:you've mentioned your tiny harbour security vessel , the NNS Andoni. Fyi,the KN has dredged a 4000 tonne slipway to begin ship building in conjunction with Damen of Holland. That's what they'll be building ,a true ocean going warship.

I repeat, one is a 100 footer, strictly inshore patrol boat-look at the free board! The other is a 350 foot warship for anti surface warfare or anti air duties which has been sold to Indonesia,Morocco,Mexico and Romania. The steel ism specifically for naval construction which means it has high hydrogen to be mild so as not to splinter under explosive stress and every step of building must adhere to Damen specs. Look at their website to see the possibilities.
