The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) says it will test run the Lagos-Ibadan standard gauge line early February.

Fidet Okhiria, the NRC Managing Director, who disclosed this on Wednesday at Ijoko in Ogun while inspecting the project, added that work on the tracks is moving towards Lagos with 1.5 kilometers being laid daily.

“They have done a lot in laying of tracks between Abeokuta, Itori, Papalanto, Kajola, Ijoko towards Lagos corridor.

“Within seven days the track laying will reach Iju towards Agege corridor of Lagos State.

“From here to Iju is 10 kilometres, and we are laying 1.5 kilometres on daily basis and by the first week of February, we will do a test run to Abeokuta from Lagos.

“All the formations have been put in place to expedite the tracks laying,” he said.

The managing director said work had been completed between Kajola and Abeokuta.

Jerry Oche, the NRC Lagos District Manager, said that when completed, the trains would be travelling at 150 kilometres per hour.

“With the new standard gauge, you can reside in Ibadan and be working in Lagos which is a very good development to people and for our economy,” he said.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Rotimi Amaechi, the Minister of Transportation, had said in 2018 that the completion of Lagos-Ibadan standard gauge would also ease off the Apapa gridlock.

Mr Amaechi said: “As you can see, the narrow gauge is existing but it’s not efficient, but the moment we fix this project, then those goods will be transferred to the rail and the lock jam will disappear on the road.” (NAN)

And one man will tell me not to vote for more of these just because he wants to be the only one to have spent two tenures as an elected president. Olorun maje! Dear Baba Iyabo, to you, Buhari might be a failure(He dey really fall hands sometimes sha) but I make bold to say that he has done more for the southwest in 4 years than you, a son of the soil did for 8 years and for this reason, all ur rantings and vituperations cannot and will not stop us from moving to the next level of massive infrastructural development in the south west.

This is commendable!

A thinking government would proffer an alternate means of transportation so as to ease the daily pressure on our roads.

That exactly is what's happening.

Lagos is working... Buhari is working!

The Lagos-Ibadan Railway is about to start, Dangote Refinery has been ably supported by the FG, Lagos-Ibadan Expressway is ongoing, Murtala Muhammed International Airport departure lounge about to be completed etc. As a Yoruba, this has NEVER happened before in our history, not even when that Letter Writer from Ota was President. I support Buhari, any sensible Yoruba would too.

Having rail will naturally get long distance truckers off the roads. The rails will carry goods and truckers can do short routes. Being able to live in Ibadan and work in lagos will be great. It wil be like Living in New Jersey and working in New York. Im sure rent is cheaper in Oyo.

I laugh grin

Amaechi is just pilling unnecessary pressure on the contractor and I doubt if they won't give him a shoddy job in return.....
GEJ achieved more in the railway sector than Buhari.....

What many do not understand that it won't be anywhere affordable for ordinary Nigerian, the fare from Lagos - Ibadan cannot be less than N1000/trip. The current DMU that run on the Lagos mass transit is N700/trip.

APC is throwing everything in the ring to garner support toward the runoff to the general election, unfortunately Nigeria had never had any history of swing voting supporters stick to their own like cult.

This coming election will make for an interesting spectacle my only prayer is that INEC and the security agencies remain impartial.
