No fewer than 2,000 members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Abia State, Thursday, defected to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state, Igbere TV can authoritatively report.

Igbere TV gathered that the defectors led by Hon. Barr. Emeka Odah, were received by former governor of the state and Abia North APC Senatorial Candidate, Dr. Orji Uzor Kalu, in Umuhu Ezechi community of Bende local government area.

Speaking on behalf of the defectors, leader of the group, Barr. Emeka Odah, said they’ve chosen to join the APC because they’re lover of progress.

He berated the incumbent Governor Okezie Ikpeazu led-administration for allegedly failing to utilise the state’s resources to transform the state.


Odah decried the poor state of infrastructure in the state, saying that Abia had not witnessed any meaningful development since Orji Uzor Kalu left office in 2007.

He expressed hope that the APC Governorship Candidate in the state, Dr. Sampson Uche Ogah, as a businessman, would replicate his success story in his private business in governance, if elected.


He promised to mobilize support for the APC in the February 16 and March 2 general elections in the state, while assuring Dr. Orji Uzor Kalu of massive victory.

“We’ve chosen to join the APC today because we’re lover of progress. We are tired of unfulfilled promises and retrogressive governance. They’ve refused to work our roads, no good road in our lands since Orji Uzor Kalu left office.

“I make bold to say that Bende is for APC. We’ll give APC 100 per cent support. OUK has our vote, Ben Kalu has our vote, President Buhari has our vote.”

Responding, the Abia North APC Senatorial flag bearer, Dr. Orji Uzor Kalu, said, “On behalf of our great party, the APC, I welcome you, Barr. Emeka Odah and your group to the All Progressives Congress; the party of the progressives.”


Dr. Kalu, while speaking further, assured the people of the community that their grievances have been noted, while calling on them to vote in all candidates of the All Progressives Congress in the February 16 and March 2 general elections “for massive development in the area.”

He further charged them to vote in President Muhammadu Buhari and Dr. Sampson Uche Ogah to ensure rapid transformation of the state.


Dr. Kalu, thereafter, handed over the APC broom to the defectors, which was duly received by the group leader, Barr. Emeka Odah, on behalf of other members.

Also speaking, the APC Candidate for Bende Federal Constituency in the state, Barr. Benjamin Kalu, stressed on the need for the people of the community to vote in Dr. Orji Uzor Kalu, saying, “if you support him (Kalu) and the APC, you will be amazed at what he will do for Abia North senatorial district.”

Defections are always round numbers in Nigeria; 2000, 3000, 5000, 15000...you will never see something like "1,342 people defected" or "2,321 people defected"

Where are the 2000 people? Moreover, we in Abia are not daft. We either vote APGA or APC for governorship bcoz Ikpeazu has failed, but for presidency, we are fully ATIKULATED. Well Igbos are allergic to lifelessness, we're not Afonjas

Remove his officials and praise singers from that little or nothing crowd and what is left?

Moreover does OUK not have a pending court case which the Judge was advised by the executive to drop?

Abia would rather opt an APGA rather than going back to an OUK who along with his mum drained the treasury.
