RAM-random access memory this indicates the ability of a phone to multitask and also shows how many apps that can be run simultaneously on a phone.
ROM- indicates the storage space available in a device and it is normally measured in gigabyte

On a computer system (of which smartphones are a type) RAM (Random Access Memory) is your Primary or Main memory. RAM is what is used when you load or start apps, run tasks, or run diagnostics. Even a copy of the OS (Operating System) is loaded into RAM because it is fast, data can easily and quickly be moved in and out of RAM. On a computer, all running tasks are loaded into RAM. You can liken RAM to the back of an exercise book where you do your "rough work" in pencil, when solving a problem, a sort of scratch book. You can use an eraser to clean up when you are done. RAM is volatile, that is, it loses its contents when the computer system is switched off.
ROM (Read Only Memory), in a typical computer, ROM is a special type of memory or storage where instructions or software that do not need to be altered over time are kept, it is "supposedly" permanent or unalterable. For example; startup instructions, diagnostic checks on startup, hardware interaction instructions, etc. Note that there are different types of ROM and also different procedures for altering (for those that allow this) it's contents.
In a smartphone, your ROM is usually partitioned or divided into several portions. Some portions house the OS (Android, iOS, Blackberry OS, etc), the bootloader, the recovery, and some other important files which allow you to make use of the phone, because of this, these portions are usually hidden and read only, until you root the phone, boot into recovery, or use ADB. The remaining partition on the ROM is user accessible, it is where you store your files - audio, video, documents, etc.
A smartphone's ROM is a form of Secondary or Auxiliary storage. Expansion cards like MicroSD cards are also Secondary storage devices, although they are not as fast as the ROM. ROM is non-volatile, it always retains its contents when power is turned off.
