In real life u will have lot of gear with u , so without the above it is very difficult to pull oneself up a rope using strength of the muscles only.

How will u throw a rope ladder aboard a ship in a heavy sea state and that too very high distance ?

But a rope gun will a gappler will do it for u quite easily.

In the end what to use will come down to choice and comfort level of user

U can it at home by trying to throw a rope ladder from ur terrace to ur neighbor's terrace and see if it's easy or hard

ISRO PBCV
