This section might not be the most suitable for the topic but I just have to post it here hoping it gets to right people (the moderators and Seun)
Before I proceed, let me make it clear that I have used the pronoun OUR because I believe that I am a stakeholder in nairaland for I have deprived immense happy been a member of nairaland this past twelve years. It is not possible for me to stay five hours without opening nairaland. I will rather log online to nairaland get the latest news and info than listen to the news.
Back to the crux of the matter. Some unscrupulous element are now using nairaland as a channel to get people to scam. They post random pictures or screenshots of bet9ja winnings and asking people to contact. Honestly, that shouldn't be an issue but we know that there are simple minded, gullible and greedy people who will jump at anything to make quick cash. But truth be told, those winnings are not real. I visited an in-law last week and I met him trying to settle an issue. The young man he was talking to placed a bet of 200K on a game he got from someone on nairaland to win over 8 million. He "bought" the game from the scammer for 5 thousand. The irony of this is that most of money he used for the bet is the money he was keeping for the mum. He lost everything and the mum is distraught. She needs the money to pay back a loan which was due last week.
I read a quote last week and the man said that those posting winnings of 5 million with #1000 should be richer than Dangote by now since under few hours they make that amount. But they are not. Their aim is to hoodwink and scam people with fictitious winnings. The most annoying part is that when you click a thread to read on front-page, sometimes you see up to ten different of such winnings attached to posts of different people. Some of these scammers have different monikers. Some will just write see prove (sic) and attached the so called winnings. I will urge us to check nairaland rule 16.
The moderators are not helping matters. When you click on the report button, in few hours you see the person has been unbanned. What are we turning nairaland to? Are we encouraging scamming?
I advocate that anyone who violates rule 16 should be completely banned and his account deactivated. If this is enforced, in no time this nonsense will stop. Attached is messages posted by bet9ja on their twitter handle.

@ OP,why are you so disturbed? Seun is only interested in traffic so forget the safety of nairalanders. I've suggested countless time, the only thing to curb this is to ban the spammers IP but wetin concern him.

In addition to this..I was scammed last year by rain gold. Com...They actually have a member named rain gold on nairaland...After days of unresolved issues...I tried to sensitize nairaland members not to fall for this scam...I pasted all the screen shot of payments and all sort...I can remember rain gold stating that rain gold doesn't scam with other people stating that they have been scammed here...only to come and follow the thread....I found out that the thread has been deleted...its either two things....nairaland has moderators that are scammers or work together with scammers..righteousness exalts a nation...but sin is a reproach...take note

The thing tire me too..,..

Just the way BUHARI is the PRESIDENT of Nigeria of about 200million people...

Now let us picture Nairaland forum as a country of about only 2Million people in population, having SEUN as her PRESIDENT.....

Just the way corruption of different forms has bedevil Nigeria of BUHARI, that's the same way scammers of different forms has plagued Nairaland of SEUN OSEWA.....

While it could be a herculean task sometimes in a bid to put to an end the corruption in BUHARI'S Nigeria, because of her massive population, One will now begin to wonder why it has also become a hard task for SEUN OSEWA and his crew of MODS to control and then bring to the bearest minimum, the activities of just a microscopic 2million members, and call those who litter vitually all the threads of Nairaland with bet9ja tickets to order......I still dey wonder!!!

Later dem go carry head come out say make we vote dem say they wan Rule a whole nation Nigeria.....and they can't even control the activities of just a microscopic 200 million members on Nairaland. Una beta tight una seat belt.

Buhari nor fit kill corruption, Buhari nor fit kill corruption.....Now see corruption for una Nairaland, president SEUN and MODS nor fit kill am....infact i dey suspect say na una dey behind those bet9ja scammers.

If terrorism last for 24hours in a country, then govt has a hand in it.......SANI ABACHA

If Bet9ja scammers activities last for one Month on Nairaland, then Seun and Mods has a hand in it.........GOFRONT

Apologies made it a pledge to block any one I see on any thread in the last week would have blocked over 100,I can't believe people still fall for their cheap scams all they do is edit pictures and post result of games already played

It's not that easy, you know. I don't know why y'all mentioning this guy upandan. It's probably annoying to him nau undecided

I know for one thing, that Se.un is doing his best on this forum. I was also uptight initially on my 1st moniker lipsrsealed.... But I've loosened up a bit. They are doing their best. No forum is perfect. One thing is certain, they clamped down on those po.rn guys so now, NL is SFW. That was a big step for development cool. Thumbs up Se.un, Mynd4.4 and Lal@. Y'all should quit mentioning the guy. He also has a normal life.

is it only the porn guys that are constituting a nuisance on nl? How about those who have been swindled on NL?

I've never been a victim of NL 419ers though because I don't even entertain or pay them attention in the 1st place but how about the newbies or I just came back from abroad guys thinking Nigerians are nice and can trust Nigerians because it's a public forum where people jest and do all sorts?

You're wasting your time.

Seun gives zero fukks about what goes on in nairaland. All he cares about is ad revenue, that's why the site has remained the same without any significant updates since day one.

He's allowed unruly and incompetent mods to run rampant trying to decide the narratives on the site, bullying anyone who speaks truth to power.

Nairaland has gone to the dogs and the detached owner is without a single care.
exactly.thats why serious, reasonable and intelligent people have left NL a long time ago.its now for teenagers, smallies and jambitoes

But Facebook is the least place to find perfection.grin.. Them plenty for there. There are always 419ers and cyber-bullies everywhere. Even if they are banned, new accounts can be created. It all depends on the public to pay heed to them or not. You have a point tho Facebook is a relatively larger community. 419 and cyber-bullying can never be eradicated completely. Seu.n and the mods' eyes can't be everywhere. I guess that's why we have the Report button.

No problem, bruv. Just make sure to use the Report button at any sight of a scammer.
I heard of a particular mod tho, name starting with d ending with e...lipsrsealed... that goes about deleting and sending posts to the recycle bin that are not in the mod's favor. I don't know if it's a rumor but sometimes, I see lines upon lines of deleted posts. Then, I see some females still throwing the same shades of insults but their posts remain. I remember when I posted a gif of laughing at a Nairalander. She called me a "dumb pr!ck". Within 3 seconds of refreshing, someone deleted my post but the "stupid pr!ck" post was still there. Then someone commented that he's seeing "so-so" mod at work.
This needs to stop. If you are clearing, clear them all. Don't be gender-specific. I reported that post but do you know, it's still there till now..

I know some are watching. I can't talk and chop ban whereby nothing will change. I'm not Nelson Mandela. Ban no sweet.
I heard of someone that chopped 7 months ban, came back yesterday, dropped a testimonial comment, and chopped 8 months ban again?! Nawa for these mods o.

No, they won't flog him, but they would ban him for the next 7 months to 25 years, if they feel like it.

I joined NL due to repeated invitations from a friend who has been a member for over 10 years.

He is a simple level-headed fellow who doesn't like trouble.

Initially he used to ignore trolls, bullies and cyber ruffians, until he discovered that his silence only emboldened them.

So he decided to put them in their place. Guess what? The mods ignored the obscene remarks of the trolls and would then focus on him, by either deleting his comments or banning him.

He was banned for almost 7 months last year and just logged back in yesterday.

The reason for his ban was because he took a troll to task for using abusive language, ethnic baiting and posting obscene pictures.

My friend was banned for 7 months, but the troll got a lighter sentence and was reposting the same trash 4 days later.

I kept seeing the troll's moniker going up and down on different threads doing the same thing.

If you use the report button, you are the one whose posts get banned next.

Anyway, my friend got banned again, becuse he opened a thread to announce his arrival. Before he could blink, the thread was deleted. He thought it was an error on his part.

He opened another thread again. And then the same thing happened. Next, he was banned for 8 months straight. This has shown nothing, but vindictiveness on the part of the mods.

The ironic thing is that my firm was about to place some online adverts and NL had been shortlisted for one of the campaigns.

Now, I am going to assign that campaign to another platform....
