Kenya is like Ghana..we home to many foreigners (not whites only grin)..many surrounding countries treat Kenya as home.they invest alot here even the Nigerians an am not talking of the bedsitters ...Cities like Mombasa are like wormholes..ya go there an dont come out (too much pleasure grin grin)..Few cities in Africa can compete with Mombasa for ths..Malindi another town is home to world billionaires (mostly Italians )

Of course. You cant blame Africa's backwardness on IQ. Doesnt work that way. Being developed precedes high IQ test scores. The IQ we talking about is 20/21st century cognitive stuff. More rural folks will generally have lower IQs than their counterparts in cities (within the same country). Think of yourself vs a Khoisan guy in the bush. Your environments are totally different, yours is more complex, more stimulating to your mind than his, even the kind of typical conversations you have with your friends when you meet vary sharply with the kind of convos he has with his buddies - That example should clear why backward countries generally have low IQs compared to industrialized countries. And it may rise and fall over time depending on prevailing circumstances. Im sure it is falling in Nigeria right now. In SA it must be rising. A study done among rural folks in Kenya between 1984 and 1998 showed the IQ is rapidly rising - known as the Flynn Effect.

However, all this is nothing more than a measure of 21st century-centered cognitive intelligence. If we make an IQ test centered on a Khoisan's way of life (which is hardly 21st century), then you can bet Khoisans would be the smartest folks on the planet. But who would that help? The entire world is racing towards 21st century industrial lifestyles. Thats why we have the current - from our point of view - unfavorable IQ tests. Eventually our embarrassingly low IQs will catch up with the rest of the world.
Exactly!! some of the points you made here correlate with what I said earlier. The IQ tests are standardised according to the morden Western way of life, which means Africans are bound to perform dismally in such tests since Africa is still very much backward,Africans' reluctance to adopt the 21st century life (or whatever it is that is holding Africa back) is the reason for the low IQ,not genetics as some people always imply.Maybe in my original comment I should have stated explicitly that Africa needs to worry about physical development of the continent instead of some tests.Every race of men started somewhere.

https://countryeconomy.com/demography/literacy-rate/russia

Fyi,the respective populations are 1.4 bn,210 mn and 145 mn. You can no longer hide your terrible stats behind your large pop than you can disguise your appalling state behind Africa's general conditions.
I always knew you were an idiot but not this big an idiot. You are comparing apples and oranges! China is an Asian country, Nigeria is an African country. The factors are different. Now, let's compare oranges with oranges, and apples with apples.
South Korea and China are both in Asia. Literacy rate in China in 1980 was 65%; in South Korea (88%) Look at the gap. It's always easy to achieve high levels of literacy in countries with small populations than in those with higher populations. Now, compare Kenya with Argentina, both have about the same populations. Kenya(85%), Argentina (99%) or even Germany (99%). Tell me why yours is lower than Germany's or even Zimbabwe's and equitorial guinea's for starters. grin
Meanwhile, in Nigeria 10 years ago in 2008 literacy level was a mere 51%, today it has grown to 68%. 10% difference in 10 years and climbing and your stupid self thought we didn't do anything to influence that? If we were to compare Africa's two biggest countries, Nigeria and Ethiopia, you would get a clearer view of my point. Compare Ethiopia's and Nigeria's literacy levels and get back to me ASAP.

Literacy like development has got nothing to do with size. Most of the smaller African countries lack behind. Look at the usual Africa laggards. We are talking your neigbours Niger, Chad, Central Africa R, DRC Congo, South Sudan, Somalia, Burundi, Tanzania, Malawi,Uganda, Zambia and tell me the majority - are small populated countries.

There are big countries that have turned the corner. There are small countries like Rwanda also turning the corner. They are medium sized country doing great.

It all comes down to investment put down to enabling people to read and write, or to build infrastructure. China were able to move forward by investing in it's people and infrastructure.

Nigeria should NEVER EVER EVER USE ITS POPULATION AS AN EXCUSE. It should face the reality. They have invested dismally in education. They have the resources commensurate with their size - and there is no excuse why their literacy is that low. She simply need to invest heavily in education.

And same it true for all indicators.

Big six - Maybe the Great Six. Few people ever get to see the whales.
mtisTheQubit:
The government has unveiled plans to make an addition to the famous Big Five game animals that consists of the lion, the leopard, the rhinoceros, the elephant, and the buffalo.
The proposal that is currently under review is likely to see the list turn to the Big Six, with the Whale Shark being the latest addition to the list.

Volker Bassen, a diver and the founder of the East African Whale Shark Trust (EAWST) revealed that the plan is at an advanced stage.

The EAWST also indicated that Kenya is currently the only country in the world that can boast of the Big six.

Yeah, they have smaller population but are all classified as Least Developed Countries (LDC)

So our level of development is higher than them. Nigeria is classified as developing country. Same as China true but geographical location also a plays a role in literacy rate.

USA and it's two neighbours are all classified as developed countries, USA has the lowest literacy rate among the two.

Indeed. That makes it the 5th Nation - after Kenya, Ghana, Rwanda and South Africa. We need 15 more countries to make AFCTA a reality. I don't understand why the rest are hesitating. Nigeria should be amongst the first ones - the GIANTs of Africa.

Actually a lot more countries have since ratified. I can count about 16. If we add Ethiopia then we still need about 3 countries to make Africa free trade a reality. We need to follow with free movement of people or labour. We need to make Africa one seamless region.

i still don't understand d frenzy behind this afcta n I bet most of us here still don't know every little details about it.

Afcta in my view won't work (I'm not a naysayer angry ). There are many things that must be in place before it would work, it's not just about signing it, we can't hope to operate like Europe within a short period of time when we're actually not europe.

For acfta to to work, we need integrated rail line across d continent for easy movement of goods and services, do we have that? undecided

For acfta to work, we need to have a single currency in d continent for trade to be easily transacted, do we have that? undecided

What about "yamoussokro accord" for open skies that we badly need in d continent, an accord that has been existing for close to 30years, it'll make goods n services to be easily transported a cross d continent via air, have we implemented it? undecided

They list goes on n on.... if the basics are not in place, how do we trade goods n services?

Sonko is Nairobi's governor.Without much planning and research He once banned public minibuses (matatu) to enter in the CBD in order to reduce congestion. It ended to be a total disaster! Many kiberans ended up marching since they had no other means of transportation like BRT.

So..
Sonkolizing= doing something without planning

We have to start somewhere.Ecowas,COMESA,EAC,SADC and others are already working and so no reason why it can't work.Nigeria just need to ratify it like a giant it claims to be.The idea is to progressively work towards say the EU...and that begin by raising intrafrica trade from say 5% to 50%.Kenya already does 48% of it's trade within Africa.Other countries need to do that.
