The President of Dangote Group, Alhaji Aliko Dangote, has said premium motor spirit (PMS) or petrol that will be refined from Dangote Refinery will not be sold at Federal Government’s regulated price.

This ends the speculation about how much the pump price petrol from the first private refinery will attract when it begins operation next year.

Dangote spoke on the sidelines of the visit of Central Bank Governor Godwin Emefiele to the refinery in Lagos.

Dangote said though the plan is not to concentrate on export entirely, he noted that petroleum products from the refinery will be sold at export rate.

He said it is the duty of the Federal Government to determine the price of fuel, adding that he doubts whether fuel subsidy will continue but if it does, the government can engage the company to find a mid-ground on how to tackle the issue of subsidy.

He said: “We are not here to concentrate on export but pricing of products depends entirely on the government. If there will be subsidy, which I doubt very much, that is the job of government not the job of Dangote to determine what the price will be. But price of our export is what we sell, which will depend on what the market is internationally, and locally if there will subsidy, the government will carry that responsibility and not us. Government has to engage us and see how they can find a mid-ground on that.”
On job creation, Dangote said the refinery and petrochemical project is transformational. Considering that Nigeria depends on importation to meet its fuel consumption needs and the attendant huge subsidy to keep pump price at regulated price of N145 per litre, he said the project will create massive jobs.

According to him, most filling stations don’t sell fuel because of lack of fuel in view of issues around importation, adding that when the refinery begins operation, it will put these filling stations and their workers back to work.

He said: “Currently, more than 26,000 people are working on the project and at the height of the project, the number of workers will soar to about 80,000 people and there will be more than 50,000 workers living internally in the company.”

Emefiele promised the apex bank’s assistance to other refineries’ licencees whose banks can vouch for their credit worthiness.

Emefiele said: “CBN’s support depends on the company’s capacity. I have not seen any other person that has received government licence to set up a refinery. In any case, you don’t come directly to CBN, you have to go through your bank and your bank has to assess your capacity to be able to take on the project.

“My suggestion is that if there are people that have interest in CBN’s support, they should go to their banks and if their banks are able to display their credit worthiness to be able access such facility, CBN is ready to support them in naira and dollar that they need to import equipment that will enable them conduct their businesses.

“I have not seen any, if I see any through their banks, I can assure they will receive this kind of support Dangote got from CBN.”
The CBN supported Dangote Refinery, which will cost $9 billion (N75 billion) and the fertiliser plant which will cost $2 billion with N50 billion. The apex bank chief also stated that the refinery and petrochemical project is funded by 60 per cent of Dangote’s equity with the remaining 40 per cent funded by debts from local and foreign banks and CBN’s support.

So the government is saying a Nation of over 150million have to wait for a private individual to set up his refinery for the nation to move forward..

Is this the promise that PMB made in 2015?

Incorruptible PMB cum (Petroleum Minister) cant revive a refinery in 3 and half years to full functionality... omashe oo

How Nigerians are rooting for someone who clearly failed woefully on what he promised to deliver is incredible- Many Nigerians really need mental evaluation
When we say Abok.i should go to school, this is what we are saying. They are part of the people dragging us back in this country.

Unfortunately, the educated ones that are continual slaves, unfortunately my tribe, continue to be ruled by one man in Bourdillon SMH.

Dangote became the Richest man in Africa without Oil Business, If there was something cynical about him he would have no option other than to become the Richest by launching into Oil Business in the first place, in fact if he had ventured into Oil Business in the First place he would be competing with top ten Richest men in the Whole World not only the Richest man in Africa and he would have been Richer than he is now. The problem is cost of doing business in Nigeria today is far far higher than in Europe and advance countries, in Nigeria the owners will pay for, electricity, security, water, even the roads are bad, all these have negative costs implications, since any business person wants to make profit, he or she must add the costs before arriving at sales prices

Not until Nigeria govt addresses infrastructures decay, worsening security , unfavourable exchange rate regime among others, prices of anything produce in Nigeria will never come dowm

The short time advantage is that it has possitive effect on job creations and reduces joblessness among populace
If the cost of business is high, why ask for government subsidy? At least let us know you have no government help, and you can price your product any price. Not using our patrimony, our taxpayers money to get an unfair advantage and still price the citizens paying them to death. What is wrong, is wrong. Dangote is wrong here, he should have no support.

It is simple.

We give him crude oil and pay refining cost. Cost of shipping is eliminated! It will still be much cheaper than imported products.

We can even pay him the refining cost with some crude oil.
What is this one saying? Whether you give him crude oil or not, it can never be FG price. Just admit that as a lifeless FC supporter, your "hero" and his government goofed this time.

smh. dangote is a government made billionaire. the way he became rich was at the expense of enabling competition in areas he invested in. there was a time he was the sole importer of cement in Nigeria. now he is being given a heads start in the private refinery business with no one else to compete with him

Essentially, the cost of fuel from Dangote's refinery is above the government subsidised price of N145.

So,either government puts Dangote fuel under subsidy...OR we remove fuel subsidy.
Perfect summary. And for your information, lifeless FC and his clueless government are supporting Dangote refinery with our taxpayers money too.

Thorough privatization is the only way to achieve effective flow. Government stared establishments will always be filled with the issues i mentioned before . . It is a Nigerian factor and peculiar.

Corruption!
It beats me how Nigeria, as an oil country does not have fully functioning refineries.

To me corruption is not the problem in this country, rather nepotism. When children of politicians and other people who patronize them and do not merit the civil service jobs get it at the expense of those who merit, inefficiency and unprofessionalism will surely happen.

Just see NIMC for evidence.

1.We should stop this myth that every working Nigerian is earning N19000 or 30000 monthly. That's not true.

2.Thing is, the money to pay for subsidy is not there again. We sell crude oil at $60 per barrel....while we need it at $140 per barrel to run a fully functioning economy. We also don't have the cash to keep on paying high salaries.

3.If we deregulate...we save billions of naira...which might even be enough to raise salaries. Then there are the extra jobs and extra investment that would flow in as a result.

4.We have to deregulate. Or we keep on pouring money into the corrupt subsidy system.
For #3, for a government that is struggling to pay 30k minimum wage and is instead saying 27k, that will increase salaries? You are not serious.

This is why am disappointed when ignorant people mouth that the coming on stream of Dangote refinery will bring down the cost of pms. He is a shrewd and exploitative business man, it may even sell higher than 145. The cement sector that was almost handed to him, how far? Instead we now have cement from N850 to N2300 per bag.
The secret is to completely deregulate these sectors to allow multiple competition, including imported ones. No advantage to any.
Imagine dangote locally refining but already saying he will sell at export price
What did you expect. That he would save you all from your governments failures.

I mean its business heck.....not charity.

what a Nation
Unfortunately, AtikuObi, the so-called alternative is talking of privatizing everything. The GSM they privatized, there is a whole lot of problems with them. We should not even talk about the Electricity one SMH. Some things are supposed to be government owned, electricity and crude oil (especially for an oil country) are those. If the Nigerian factor called nepotism is that bad, a government with political will can outsource the recruitment to a company like Dragnet who will absolutely hire people on merit. Elimination of nepotism does not have to be for all sectors, just the electricity and crude oil ones and this country will be so much better. My 2 cents.

All over the world govt support her citizens in business-wise, e.g during Obama reigns he supported GM (general motors) bailout to reflate his business, why? Government knows if businesses ( foreign or indigenous) collapse in the country, it has aggregate negative effect on macro economy of the nation,

Pls don't be myopic on issue of Dangote , what about (1). sooooo ooo many jobs that it would create. (2) influx of foreign exchange earning to Nigeria economy. (3). Marginal reduction in crime no matter how small it may be. etc

Meanwhile if you read the article very well , CBN gov say he had not seen anyone again that comes out for establishment of refinery, he reiterated that if anybody comes out, he or she will be supported with forex,

Any Nigeria citizens that wants cheaper and easier access to forex, let him or her do needful, ........do proposal, bring substantial amount of his or money, go to deposit bank for loan and lastly come to CBN for support
