snipesdam:most of those chinese gens are like tecno phones, low quality stuff made for markets without regulation, and intended to be replaced fairly quickly. from 5kva, it is not economical to run a generator on petrol, as diesel is more efficeint. however, due to our persistent subsidized petrol, you have the 8th wonder of the world in nigeria, 10kva or larger petrol engine generators. unforunately, a modern honda generator costs an arm and a leg if you're buying locally |

Nice story Gazzuzz. I can attest to the raging sound of those early Honda generators; we used to have one those days; think it was Honda Clarke or something but the sound no be here. Very strong and reliable though. |

For closure... Just to let everyone who supported this thread know that I finally got a TEC gen as planned. So far so good. It even has remote start Just that you still have to manually open/lock the fuel tap. Would have just left the tap in the open position but the manual does not encourage that. They should have just automated the whole thing! |

GAZZUZZ:We still own and run a smaller version of your Honda Generator. Ours is a 1800 but what that thing carries enh, and she's so economical, her full capacity at 4litres could provide power for +/-12 hours no kidding. Her only issue is the noise. My father then used to carry it to the village and he would strenuously power 5 houses in the compound of which one is an 11br duplex. Even now, the gen carries my Mother's house with a poultry and borehole. They don't make strong, efficient generators as them these days. We used to have two but Mom went to have one repaired and forgot the repairman and his shop so we're left with one. She's my recipient for used engine oils and spent spark plugs. Has never been ringed or recoiled even though we've dangerously used her to power very high voltage appliances at times. Trusty old she is. |

GAZZUZZ:Had a funny experience from the day my Sumec zero gravity 1500W gen was bought; it will overflow if you don't lock it . This was some 4 years ago. Since then I kinda obeyed the rule. Will try it out on this one |

Piyke:Hi Piyke, I read the thread and seems you could clear my doubt on an issue. I have the TEC 9200RS 6500W Optima Series, the Blue frame type. I bought it with the Remote inoperable and would like to install a remote on it. I have ordered a 12V 2CH Remote switch to use. I have 2 start wires for the start, I would like to know what wire which when it touches the ground of the gen, the engine stops. (Used to notice in some gens) so I can put on the second channel of the remote to stop the gen. And the issue of Fueled tap, you mean it's okay to leave it open for everyday use because that's the only thing spoiling the remote function. |

ewizard1:Modifying will void your warranty. Why not call Thermocool to attend to the problem? They are quite good with warranty repairs or are you out of warranty? You checked the battery for the remote? |
| Re: Any Experience With Thermocool Generators (after Sales Repairs) by EngRichie: 1:25pm On Feb 12, 2019 |
Thermocool generators are good. They use quality copper for their generator windings and their performance matches their specified load rating. |

Piyke:Warranty keh, I bought it Tokunbo in a warehouse so Warranty has vamoosed a long time ago . The remote system has been dislocated, some components: Relays etc which was placed under the control unit are missing. Just that the kick still works well. Also hand crank start is one time. I got a new 12V9AH Battery. Also the auto- choke still works, I love that part. It's because of these I want to install a remote.Attached is the remote I plan to use for it. I have ordered it already.

Also my TEC does have this problem, whenever I run it for a long time like say 4 - 5 hours, it suddenly stops power supply, the voltage display goes off but the engine would still be running. I would have to turn it off, start it again before the power would come back. Could that be a problem? |

ewizard1:I see! Sadly I have no experience with this kind of connection. |
| Re: Any Experience With Thermocool Generators (after Sales Repairs) by Piyke(op): 8:22pm On Feb 12, 2019 |
ewizard1:I know what you mean. Mine has done it like 3 times since I bought it. Though not dependent on number of hours run. Mine is very random but in the 3 times it happened it did shortly after starting it. For this gen I strictly use the TEC repair team for maintenance. When I told them of it they didn't really provide specific feedback but the guy sha did some routine maintenance decarbonization, valve adjustment etc. Since that it's happened just once like a month ago (they did the repair in November of course I change the oil monthly approx). Maybe GAZZUZZ can help out since he actually started from generators lol |

If the cost is not an option, thermocool generator is the best option, in terms of home basic use....... My Thermocool IGWE 8100, loads a 1 HP split ac unit, iron, fan, fridge, freezer and all the lights, very comfortably....... |
