You're not just a stark illiterate, but star illiterate. Atiku and Obasanjo had $2 billion and made it $40 billion. Same Atiku is here.
Lol. First there was oil boom during Obasanjo regime and Obasanjo was wise enough to save. Tell me why Jonathan sank our foreign reserve despite oil boom or shut up

The average of his first tenure was $22. Nigeria was highly in debt $18 billion. Please which excuse do you still have to promote illiterate President?

I think it's both...

Cost of living: because we don't Manufacture items of use, we pay double the price for transportation and duties..

Standard of living : majority cant afford premium items sourced internationally but rather opt for "No name brands" mostly locally produced. Eg 10 bottles of baby oku over a bottle of Heineken.
if you want to talk Cost of living, what would you now say about many of our neighboring countries that depend solely on import(consumption)?

Like the guy said abinitio, all na wash. Many Nigerians don't even spend N500 a day and it's not because they are poor but because Nigeria is cheap compare to many other countries especially in Africa. So the estimation is totally wrong my sister.

In a country where beggers earn up to 2k a day and they are saying many people live under 1 dollar, who are thus those people?

JUST IN: 91 million Nigerians now living in extreme poverty

Mayowa Tijani in On the GoTop Stories

Over 91 million Nigerians are now living in extreme poverty, TheCable can report.

TheCable understands that at least three million Nigerians have slipped into extreme poverty between November 2018 and February 2019.

According to the World Poverty Clock, created by Vienna-based World Data Lab, 91.16 million Nigerians were living below a dollar a day as of February 13, 2019.

In June 2018, the Brookings Institution projected that Nigeria had overtaken India, as the poverty capital of the world, with 86.9 million extremely poor people.

This was further confirmed by the British Prime Minister Theresa May, who said Nigeria had become home to the largest number of very poor people in the world, putting the figures at 87 million.

“Much of Nigeria is thriving, with many individuals enjoying the fruits of a resurgent economy, yet 87 million Nigerians live below $1 and 90 cents a day, making it home to more very poor people than any other nation in the world,” the UK prime minister had said.

Since May made this observation in South Africa in August, the number of Nigerians living in extreme poverty has grown to 91.16 million, with six people falling into poverty every minute, according to Brookings Institution.

Today, India has 48.7 million people living in poverty, from 73 million in June 2018. By implication, India has pulled out a minimum of 24 million people from poverty in less than eight months.

ARE YOU LIVING IN EXTREME POVERTY?

According to the World Bank, a person can be said to be living in extreme poverty, if they live below the poverty line of $1.90 or N693.5 per day.

The bank in its explanation of poverty levels said “when estimating poverty using monetary measures, one may have a choice between using income or consumption as the indicator of well-being”.

“Most analysts argue that, provided the information on consumption obtained from a household survey is detailed enough, consumption will be a better indicator of poverty measurement than income”.

However, using the World Bank’s poverty line, if you live below $1.90 a day, you will be classified as living in extreme poverty.

Nigeria just overtook India as the country with the highest number of poor persons in the world.

Please, please, those who want President Buhari to continue to lead Nigeria must find their own independent countries....

In 1984/85, Buhari as HoS made Nigerians poorer, made Nigerians queue for sugar, milk as soldiers flogged them to maintain queue.

Twice Buhari led Nigeria, he led the country to deep economic recession.
Let Buhari go home now.

I thought you said there was Oil boom during Obasanjo's time? I'm using just one tenure to measure Buhari's one tenure. We were over 130 million people with $2 billion reserve and fuel was selling for N20.

Why did Buhari's government ran into recession during 1983?

Venezuelas woes are because they foolishly embraced socialism .

That of Angola is just plain old corruption and mismanagement .
The commenters attempting to use Angola and Venezuela as "evidence" for Buhari's virtues make as little sense as trying to explain away a bad case of food-poisoning by saying at least it isn't AIDS or cancer, when not getting sick at all would have been a perfectly reasonable and far preferable outcome. It's interesting that they never ever look at Nigeria's own preceding 25 years of unbroken economic growth until Buhari came to power, in the course of which the oil price suffered just as dramatic falls on multiple occasions.

Will you keep quiet? Tell us why our foreign reserve sank from $48b to $26b under Jonathan or just shut up.
When you consider the exchange rate then versus now, which was 180 vs 365 you'll find out that not much has changed, actually it got worse cos you've lost purchasing power by a factor of 2.
The thing with numbers is one has to analyse it critically.

PS: You should also analyse the debt levels, the amount that was borrowed in the last 4 years is mind blowing.
In general my point is, this administration had failed at least economically.

Re: 91 Million Nigerians Now Living In Extreme Poverty - World Poverty Clock by abdull4honest(m): 11:11pm On Feb 14, 2019
I don't think that 91.16 million is the exact figure of Nigerians in poverty. This is because in my own state, i can tells that about 3% is enjoying the present administration of All Promises Cancel (APC) party. As a single graduate, on the 25th July, 2018 will remain a memorable day i took breakfast, lunch and dinner around 7:45 pm. Is it because i am one of the lazy youths who refuses to choose one out of the numerous jobs created by his government? I must vote for power shift instead of power retain in order not to die of hunger before July 25th, 2019.

Really?
Is that how you see it?
1. When PDP took over in 1999 a bag of rice sold at #2500 but left it at #7500 in 2015. That a period of 16 years but in just 3 years Buhari has taken it to #22500. With PDP there was a #5000/increment in 16 years but with APC there's a #15000 increment in just 3 years.
Tell me who's more rascal and clueless.
At this rate a bag of rice will sell for #100000 should APC spend the next 16 years in power.

Do the same for the other items you listed and see how bleak the situation is.
and really? thats how you see it?

rice from 2500-8000 =300% increment

everything increased from 300-1000% during pdp.

apc is better.

Your comparison is supposed to be with the same time frame. You are comparing sixteen years to four years. Think about what will happen if APC is given 12 more years to rule the country. I bet that many people will begin to cook their children for food.
