GudluckIBB:Ignorance of the law is not an excuse before the law. The law however demands proper asset declaration. If you are engaged by the code of conduct bureau at the point of investigation and you admit that your asset declaration is faulty/incomplete, then you are expected to update it and attach proof of legitimacy of those assets. It is after proper investigation of the updated asset declaration or legitimacy of your asset declaration and you are found wanting that you are aarraigned for trial by the CCT. Nowhere is there record or proof that the CCB was involved the the process. Justice Danladi is taking the position of both Investigator, judge and jury all at once. Nowhere is it on record that the CCB gave Onnoghen the basic right of fair hearing concerning his asset declaration. |

I wonder why some people are being partisan about this issue despite more than enough evidence against Onnoughen. Well... Who else would be defending corruption other than ....them..them.. |

I love this man courage insisting he want to go to court to defend himself if even he ends up being find guilty I will respect him forever because if it were those coward *charge and bail craps* they would have chicken out and accept Buhari dubious offer. |

What did he admit, when has it become a crime to forget declaring your assets? it only becomes a crime when you deny that the said assets that were not declared do not belong to you, at that point the CCB will charge you to CCT to prove that you lied or concealing some assets? e.g Deputy Speaker Ekwarenmadu proved that the asset been connected to him were not his, and that killed the whole noise about it. CJN did not forget to declare his asset in 2016 rather it was between 2005 and 2009 that he forget and in 2016 he declared the said accounts that he did not, he is just a victim of the position he occupies just like the Pastors wondering what would have happened if Pastor Adeboye or Oyedepo were the once accused of adultery like Suleman, believe you me they would have been asked to vacate their seats first and called all sorts of names and the gullible followers will be at the fore front GudluckIBB: |

priceaction:Yes honestly that would be very nice. But unfortunately only one section of the country (the so called slaves of the masters up North) would suffer it. I doubt if the so called honest tribe of the slave masters in the North, who are acclaimed not to be corrupt, would face any form of investigation not to talk of prosecution. This goes beyond what you understand. I await your wailing if he wins and shows is true colour later this year. Wishing you all the best. |

BREAKING: CCT withdraws arrest warrant against Onnoghen as he pleads not guilty. The suspended Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Walter Onnoghen, has pleaded not guilty to the six counts of non-declaration of assets at the Code of Conduct Tribunal in Abuja. He was immediately granted bail on self-recognisance by the tribunal following a short oral application by the defence counsel, Chief Chris Uche (SAN). After the bail was granted, Uche also applied to the tribunal to adjourn to a date after the general elections. |

yemiyemi:You have a porous understanding of due legal process, if at all. Steps are required to be taken to even convict an accused murderer caught in the act. Even an admission of guilt does not preclude the process of trial. Nigerian, or rather majority of them are so dumb. There are steps to be taken where a public officer admits an errant publication of his assets. Were these taken? The law recognizes motive. What's the motive of bringing this issue up, fast tracking it days before election tribunal judges are appointed? I am only interested in due process and equity. Did the president declare his assets? Are all other Nigerians accused of corruption already purged? What is fair is fair. I am neither interested in Buhari or Atiku. They are both incompetent to lead a man with my brain power. |

ehissi:Ignorance is not an excuse. You can plea guilty according to the law and still pay for your offence. The only thing is that your punishment could be reduced for pleading guilty on time and given a deal or soft landing in a " plea bargain ". It is like saying you agreed you murdered someone, then you expect to be left off hook because you agreed. Think about it. Nigerians should be happy that the so called big guys are now given the same treatment mostly given to the ordinary Nigerians. Meaning no man is bigger than the law |

why do u expect CJN to respect the law when the right proceedings were not followed to his removal. One thing is for sure, because the judges and lawyers have refused to take dia stand on this, so it will continue |

couragemurphy:Oga ignorance is not an excuse before the law, means when you are to be judged in a court of law, ignorance is an excuse to commit a crime. Even Justice Danladi himself clearly stated that the CCT is not a Judicial court of law of the judiciary and hence he is not subject to the judiciary but is a tribunal under the CCB which is directly under the presidency.... Someone sent a petition to CCT about an alleged crime, the onus however is for the CCB to be engaged in first establishing that a crime has been committed. The first will have been to invite onnoghen to verify that the assets are his, if he admits that they are his - because a man can increase in networth - that isn't a crime, then he will be asked to update his asset declaration with proof of legitimacy attached. If they now investigate his updated and he is found wanting, then the CCT will be invited to trial him. That is what the law requires..... |
