Nice one from the Ambassador US Consul General ......
Brother there’s nothing nice about it.

The man is not a Nigerian he has no right to address Nigerians. This is an insult to Nigerians and our sovereignty for an ordinary consular to be addressing the country. It is wrong on all levels.

This man is like an ordinary messenger in the diplomatic relationship between the host nation and his host country. It’s an insult for a messenger to be addressing Nigerians. He can be expelled for such.

Can these idiots have other people dictate for them? Can they have other people tell them how to conduct their elections? Can they have other people address their nation on how to vote on the eve of election? To hell with them.

Nigerians should stop giving these white pawpaw attention. They care less about true development of this nation. All they care about is their selfish interests and how to keep Africa in perpetual dependence on them. EU, U. S don't care about you Nigeria's wake up from your sleep. Their presidents call you shithole remember.

We should stop calling these people as if we are some colony and appendages of a colonial master. We should stop giving these folks attention they don't deserve.
This man has not done anything extreme bruv.
He only advised to go all out to vote for your desired candidate.

This is rubbish, we speak English and not pidgin English. They teach us English in school not this crap. My parents used to punish me for speaking pidgin English, so I definitely have a problem with the white man trying to speak it as if it's our official language. Foreigners all think the moment they add "O" to the end of a sentence, it automatically makes them fluent in pidgin English.
Yes you speak English but mama Osas, mama Obong, mama Nkechi don't understand it. Pidgin English is spoken by many Nigerians hence the ambassador decided to pass the message that way. Million of Nigerians will get the message clearer if it is conveyed in pidgin English than English.

Our language that we call not correct is what Oyinbo man dey take address us with out shame. I think we should embrace pidgin English as our national language that they can be used to teach all subjects in our schools. A nation that has not their own language but only official language which is a foreign language.
Your thinking is wrong brother.

Even most African countries wants to learn...for instance some of my South African friends always ask for pidgin lesson n wen u teach them one..dem go cram am well n start to dey use am in a funny way.

D tin be say we no dey value our own.

Calm down, Mr. Correct Grammar, step off that high horse, and stop peering down your nose at people of your own race who choose to communicate as they see fit. The US ambassador is to be commended, rather than ridiculed, for doing his best to reach the widest possible audience, with his message about the importance of maintaining election-day orderliness, expressed using West Africa's most widely understood dialect of the English language

Pidgin English, known in West Africa as "Broken English", is indeed a highly effective dialect of communication that is understood across the entire West African sub-region, regardless of whether haughty professors of the Queen's English are happy with that fact, or distressed about it.

If you are so adamant to prove that only the perfectly constructed English language prose of an Oxford or Cambridge graduate should be acceptable as a means of communication in West Africa, try out your theory by utilizing that pompous lecturers' verbosity, with armed soldiers or police at a checkpoint, on a dark night along a desolate road in Africa.

If you are lucky, that experiment in public relations will not result in your tasting some arbitrary roadside "justice", as a reward for your attempt to show those armed men how sophisticated and educated you imagine yourself to be.

I'm amazed you took your time to write all that. I'm on no high horse and there's no reason why an average Nigerian wouldn't understand him in English. He isn't giving a speech but a straight forward 3 sentence message. Heck even the president addresses the nation in English so why can't this guy? Besides his target audience are young people on Twitter, I don't your uneducated or non English speaking person would be sifting through the US ambassador's Twitter page for anything that has to do with the elections anyway.

I don't type anymore these days. Using one of the many speech-to-text programs currently available, I simply dictate what I want to convey in writing, and it is done. The biggest challenge then becomes trying not to say too much ha ha.

Anyway, perhaps we can agree to disagree on whether or not Pidgin English should be acknowledged as a legitimate language in its own right.

E get as e be.
